The Christmas Enchantment
Chapter One: The Beginning.
Gryffindorgirl153

An old witch dressed in rags entered the great oak doors of Hogwarts. She entered the Great Hall and stopped not far from the entrance. By her appearance, all students’ heads turned towards her. The great hall suddenly went quiet as she walked up the space between Gryffindor table and Hufflepuff.

She was dressed in an old red tattered cloak, wearing Gryffindor colors. She held a cane in one hand, and her wand in the other. The old witch wore a pointy hat on top of her gray-haired head. Her face was scarred, with a long gash that went through her left eye, and the corner of her mouth, and an X on her right eye.

The great hall erupted in whispers and murmurs here and there. All went silent once more when the old woman pointed her wand up on the enchanted ceiling, and muttered an ancient spell. A red beam shot up from her wand and up to the center of the ceiling, then it spread through all the students in the great hall. The professors didn’t seem worried, or amused. They just sat there watching without an expression.

The lights in the great hall went dim, and red and blue orbs appeared on top of some students heads. Some glowed red, and some blue. But none of the students were glowing as bright, and as red as Hermione Granger. The witch approached her slowly, limping once in a while on her left leg. The old witch examined Hermione once she reached her. She was short, and bony.

“Ah, my dear,” She spoke. “You are the one chosen,”

“Excuse me?” Hermione said. The witch cleared her throat and started speaking loud enough for everyone to hear. All heads were turned towards them, and none of the other students were glowing anymore.

“Tell me, my dear. What difficulties have you faced in the past?”

“U-uhm,” Hermione stuttered. The witch gave her a smile that showed all her crooked yellow teeth. Once more, the old witch pointed her wand towards the enchanted ceiling and white sparks started to fly from it. The great hall immediately, dropped on the floor asleep. Everyone, but Hermione Granger, The old witch and Professor Dumbledore.

“When the clock strikes 12 on the eve of Christmas,” The witch said backing away from Hermione and standing once again in the middle of the great hall. “You must find your true love, and he must love you in return. Your voice will be granted back to you, but if you do not succeed, you shall be locked in here forever,” In a flash, the witch was gone. Hermione stood there, aghast at what the old witch just said to her.

Everyone that was affected by the spell awoke and started wondering what just happened. The great hall was no longer silent.

“Hermione are you okay?” Ron Weasley asked her. Hermione opened her mouth but no sound came out. She tried again, and again, and again but she couldn’t speak. Hermione held her throat and tried telling her friends that she can’t talk, but they were all clueless.

“Hermione?” Ginny asked her. “Say something,” Hermione tried telling Ginny that she couldn’t say anything.

“Miss Granger,” Professor Dumbledore appeared in the crowd that surrounded her. “May I speak to you for a moment?” Hermione nodded, her expression still dazed. Professor Dumbledore led her into his office where he took a seat behind his desk, and Hermione stood in front of him. “You may be wondering why that witch came to Hogwarts? Yes?” Hermione nodded. “That witch, is a seer. And a very wise one in fact. The victims she chooses are ones that have a horrid past, and their opinion towards life changes because of it,”

She looked at him perplexed, and he continued. “It is to teach you a lesson. In this case, love. If I’m correct, you have stopped believing in it during past events?” She nodded slowly. “This is why she chose you. On Christmas eve, the spell will be broken if you have fallen in love and that person loves you in return. But, if you fail, I’m sorry to say that you will not be able to leave Hogwarts grounds, or get your voice back,”

Hermione felt tears form in her eyes, but she held them back as they threatened to fall.
“For now, you may not leave Hogwarts. You may go to Hogsmead, but you may not leave. There will be a ball, on Christmas eve. If you do not fall in love by then, you’ll be locked away here forever,” She was about to ask a question, but remembered she couldn’t speak. He answered for her. “I cannot fix this. I do not have the power to undo a seers magic. I’m sorry Miss Granger,”

Hermione left his office unhappily. She can’t fall in love in 2 weeks. She stopped believing in it long ago. Hermione didn’t know what to do. She hung her head low all the way to the head dormitories.

“Oi! Granger!” Draco Malfoy, the head boy yelled from the end of the corridor. “GRANGER!” He yelled even louder. Hermione just kept walking, ignoring him. “GRANGER!” He shouted grabbing her arm and turning her around. He saw tears and sadness in her eyes and started to wonder what it was about. “We have to plan the Christmas ball,” He said softly, seeing she was crying. Hermione nodded, and they both walked towards their common room. He dropped on the couch, and she sat on the arm chair next to it.

“What years are going to go?” He asked. Hermione didn’t answer. “Music?” Still no answer. “Time? Food?” Hermione stared at the floor while he spoke. “Granger!” He exclaimed. “Talk!” Hermione looked up at him, tears streaming down her cheeks. She grabbed a piece of parchment, and a quill then started to write. She crumbled up the paper and threw it at his lap, then ran up to her room, running to her bed then started to cry. Draco opened the crumbled paper that laid on his lap and read it.

I HAVE NO VOICE!

Was all she wrote. What is she talking about she has no voice?

Chapter 2: Chapter Two

Hermione’s P.O.V

It was three days after this seer put an enchantment on me and I still can’t believe it. Not even the professors know about my situation and it’s hard to keep up in class. Malfoy seems to be taking advantage of this since he’s takes the liberty in answering all the questions I try to. Potions was the worst. Professor Snape has been torturing me because I never answer him when he’s trying to ask me a question. The exact words he used was “Looks like the know it all has no answer at all. My my, how sad,” Ugh, he disgust me. But that time, I could’ve swore I saw a flicker of anger in Malfoy’s eyes, but I brushed the thought out of my head thinking it was impossible.

Harry Ron and Ginny. Well I’ve been trying to avoid them the past two days, afraid of that they might find out what has happened to me. Although, Ginny cornered me in a deserted corridor and I was forced to tell her everything. My friends started wondering why I rarely spoke, or even spoke at all. They began to wonder why I haven’t been participating in class or talking back at the Slytherins. Harry and Ron doesn’t seem to have a clue of what’s going on so there’s no problem for me there. They seem to be to thick to notice it.

The worst part is, out of everyone in Hogwarts.. Malfoy is her only hope. Dumbledore had told her about what happened to me. He says that Malfoy is the only one that is able to help me. I can’t believe this! First he’s been made head boy, then I have to live with him now this? Has the old man gone mad? They had a small little chat which I know nothing about. Neither of them would tell me until the first Hogsmeade trip which is today. And guess who I have to go with? Malfoy.

It’s Saturday today. Sun shining, cool breeze and a warm temperature. Perfect. Of course this perfect day will be ruined once I see Malfoy. No doubt he’ll make some nasty remark about it. He should be highly grateful that I can’t speak. At least I can still do magic.

I sighed and swung my legs over my bed running to the bathroom that I shared with Malfoy. I took a long hot shower, got dressed and ran down to the Great Hall for breakfast. I stopped dead when I remembered I had to wait for Malfoy. Did I forget to mention? Well, he had to go everywhere with me. No matter where it was. For some reason, it was for my “protection” as Dumbledore said. I can’t believe this. My life has gone to hell.

I waited for what seemed like nearly an hour but he still wasn’t there. I groaned and stomped up marching towards his room, and opened the door quietly. I saw Draco Malfoy sleeping soundly on his bed, the sheets tangled around him. His blonde hair fell graciously in front of his eyes and the sun was sending light making his skin glow. I poked him on the back, he didn’t wake up. I poked him again, only harder this time, and he still didn’t wake up. I bet if I screamed in his ear he’d still be sleeping. I started shaking him, and the rest seemed hazy to me.

The next thing I knew, I was lying on the floor, flat on my back with Malfoy on top of me staring into my eyes. I never actually noticed his eyes. Usually that were the first things I see in any guy. He had piercing blue eyes that looked like ice when he was furious, but seemed to soften when he’s not. It suited him.

My eyes turned to his lips. They looked soft, full and for some strange reason I wanted I kiss them. But of course, I shook my head trying to get those nasty thoughts out of my head, and this broke our little “moment”

“What are you doing in my room Granger?” He asked trying to turn his expression quickly, as if he didn’t want anyone to see the softer side of him. Too bad. I already did. He tried to put a furious look on his face, but it didn’t work. He still had that sensitive look on his face. He should actually wear it more often, he looks so much better.

I rolled my eyes at him and pointed at my wrist which I held up to him. I grabbed his arm and brought him to the window, pointing at a small village nearby. He was still looking out the window when I looked back at him. I didn’t realize he was only wearing boxers and I began to blush. Apparently, he saw me and I could’ve sworn I saw the slightest tint of pink on his cheek.

“Wait for me at the common room. I’ll get dressed,” He said in a softer tone than he started with. I nodded my head, which I kept down trying to hide my embarrassment after seeing him in nothing but boxer shorts. But, I didn’t regret it. Quidditch did him some good.

Minutes later I sat on the couch in the common room shuffling my feet and playing with my wand. He took forever just to get dressed. It was so annoying that I actually had to wait on Malfoy. I heard footsteps coming down his stairs and I stood up shooting my hands up in the air saying, ‘Finally!’. I couldn’t help but stare. He was wearing a white t-shirt and blue faded jeans.

I’m really starting to scare myself. I’m getting strange and unpleasant thoughts about a certain ferret and I’m not liking it one bit. Maybe it’s just hormones. Yeah, lots and lots of hormones… I hope.

“Lets go!” He shouted from the portrait hole. I nodded and ran towards him as he shut it behind me. We didn’t really talk much, as if I had a choice. I went around carrying a pad and pen in my purse incase I needed it.

It was weird though. It seemed like Malfoy can read my thoughts. It’s scary but it’ll do. We entered the great hall, and this time, there was no usual staring, or whispers that came from the other students ever since we started coming down to eat together ever since that old witch came.

“What?” Malfoy asked. “No insults? That’s new,” As usual, we walked to the Gryffindor table where Harry and Ron would say hi to me and sneer at Malfoy. Ginny, would say hi to both of them because she actually found Malfoy sweet enough to help me. I do to.. but that still doesn’t take back all those years.

“Can I ask you something Hermione?” Ron asked me. I nodded, setting some eggs and bacon onto my plate. “why does he sit with you everyday?”

“Dumbledore’s orders,” Malfoy grumbled. I nodded. We didn’t say a word to each other the rest of breakfast. We just merely sat in silence, looking down at our plates, not daring to make eye contact. Usually, the boys would be throwing insults at each other, and Ginny and I would just watch from the sidelines shaking our heads hopelessly, but I didn’t know what was so different about today.

“C’mon,” Draco pulled me up when he saw I was finished with my breakfast. I waved good-bye to my friends and followed him out.

Why did I have to go to Hogsmeade with you? I asked him writing on my paper.

“You do know I can still hear you’re annoying voice in my head right?” Draco said smiling slightly at me. I wished he smiled more, instead of that smirk that seems to be glued to his face.

Yeah I know that, but I would rather have you out of my head. I didn’t want him knowing my personal thoughts. He’d know what I was thinking about him this minute.

“I don’t hear everything that’s in your mind you know. I just hear what you want to say to me,” We started walking towards Hogsmeade.

“Really. Tell me why!” I pushed this inside his head.

“I can’t,” He said. “You’ll see!” I sighed.

As we got closer to the small village, I saw hundreds of boys lined up outside the Three Broomsticks, waiting anxiously for something. I squinted and saw some boys I recognized from Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and even some from Slytherin.

“Oy, Malfoy. What is that?” I asked him pointing to the group of boys.

“Those,” He said pointing to them. “Are your dates,” My jaw dropped to the floor.

“You can’t be serious,” I started shoving curses into his head and he held his hand up to stop it.

“Chill Granger,” He said. “Dumbledore said I have to help you find “him”, so here’s you’re help,”

“And I’m suppose to do what with them?” I asked him. There must be about 100 boys there! I’ll never live through this.

“It’s like speed dating,” he said. “Just get to know them. If you find someone you’re interested in, you’ll have a real date with them,”

“You do realize how much guys there are there right?” I pointed at all the guys that were chattering ignoring Madame Rosemarta who was telling them to get out.

“What Granger?” Malfoy asked me, turning his head to face me showing that annoying smirk he always had on. “Scared of a little date? You do realize why you are being punished like this right? Pushing boys away, not believing in love? I mean c’mon, even I believe in it,”

“Me scared?” Oh yeah. I’ll show him. “You better watching it Malfoy” I shot an evil glare at him and walked ahead. I turned when I realized he wasn’t following me and I saw him staring at me smirking shaking his head. He ran up to catch up with me and we reached the long line of boys.

“Ready for this Granger?” He asked me as we entered the pub.

“Just bring `em in Malfoy,” This was going to be a nightmare.

“So, anyone in particular?” Malfoy asked me sitting across from me taking a sip of his butterbeer. Amazingly, I managed to talk to all those guys in 3 hours. Most were soo.. What’s the word. Obnoxious? Some were sweet, but not my type. Slytherins were here just so they could have a taste of me and I threw them out. Some boys couldn’t even speak which was really sad. One guy from Ravenclaw wouldn’t stop repeating what I was saying thinking it was funny. It was rather annoying actually. But I didn’t think any of them were for me. Some thought I was the crazy one, writing everything i saw on paper, but I covered up saying i couldn't speak well.

Malfoy was watching me talk to all those guys a few tables away. I heard him laughing the whole time. Especially when the Slytherins came.

I looked at him, then banged my head on the table repeatedly. “Oh c’mon, it couldn’t have been that bad,”

“You try talking to obnoxious guys for 3 hours,” I started banging my head again, but then Malfoy stuck his hand in between the table and my head for me to stop.

“You’ll make a mark on the table,” He said drinking his butterbeer. Oh, that’s nice. He cares more about the table than me. “What happened to you anyway?” He asked me. I was wondering what he was talking about. “You stopped believing. I thought you were one of those girls that always dreamed for one,”

“Why suddenly so interested in my life Malfoy?” I asked him bitterly.

“Well, weren’t you always one of those people that put their problems in the past? Knowing you can’t change them,” How does he know me so well? “You look the type,” He said answering my question.

“In short, he went out with me, I fell for him, he told me he loved me, I saw him cheat on me with my best friend the end,” I tried hard to fight back my tears remembering him. No matter how much I try to forget about him, he still lies deep in my heart. There were tears in my eyes threatening to fall, but I didn’t dare cry in front of Malfoy.

“I didn’t know you could be fooled that easily,” he said, his voice soft and caring. This made me look up into his eyes.

“Yeah, me either,” I set some money on the table and left the pub.

“Whoa,” Malfoy said running up to me. “You aren’t getting away that easy,”

“What now Malfoy?” I sneered. Memories were flooding back to me. Most which I wished went away.

“You can’t just run of leaving me with a brief summary of your broken love life,” He said.

“I think I just did,” I didn’t want to talk to him. Not now. Not when I feel like crying my heart out. I started walking the path back to Hogwarts. I desperately wanted to be alone. I wanted to cry. I hated him for what he did to me. I hated her for betraying me.

“See Granger? That’s exactly what you do! Pushing people away when they try to help you!” Malfoy shouted at me. I stopped feeling anger boil inside of me. “No wonder that seer put this enchantment on you! One bad relationship and you feel like your world ended,”

“Don’t you dare talk to me as if you knew what happened between me and him. You have no idea what I’ve been through!” I shouted back. Well, more like thought back.

“Bloody Hell!” He threw his hands in the air. “You simply don’t get it do you? You do know the reason why this happened to you right? You have got to stop relying on one mistake! Get back up on your feet at try again!”

“Why are you so desperate to know about what happened to me?!” That’s the question that’s been ringing in my head. Why? Why was he helping me? Why was he so concerned? Why did he actually care?

“Because it helps you weather you like it or not. You may not even know if what you experienced is real unless you experienced something greater. I would know. You’re not the only one that got their heart broken around here,” And with that, he left me standing there, thinking about the words that he had spoken to me.

The way back, I was crying. Crying for every single mistake I made in my life. I hate to say it, but he was right. I wouldn’t know how I really felt if I didn’t experience something greater.

But how could I trust him? How can I trust him with everything? I’m putting my life into his hands. The boy that hated me for the past 6 years. The boy that never stopped calling me a mudblood. The boy that would become a death eater 3 years from now. And suddenly, a big twist in life comes out of nowhere and I find him helping me, and giving me advice on how I deal with my life.

“You aren’t the only one that got their heart broken around here,” I thought that he would be breaking girls hearts, not the other way around. ‘Slytherin sex god’ finally cracked. I don’t think he realized that he just told me the reason why he’s such a player. Is that the way he deals with his problem? By temporarily pushing it out of his head while dating other girls?

I was starting to worry. What if I don’t fall in love. I did once. But then I find him cheating on me with my best friend right under my nose. I started reasoning with my self that love doesn’t exist. It’s just some attraction you have towards a person. Anyone can say that they love you, but how would they know if they really did? All these questions about love, is why I stopped believing. Because it was just so unreal.

The Christmas Enchantment 3
Of Broken Ribs, Quidditch Stories and Kisses

I felt bad for yelling at him. Well, I couldn’t really yell at him, but I felt bad for what I did. I was returning to Hogwarts, walking slowly, trying to make time pass so I would have time to think of what to say.

I couldn’t handle this anymore. The pressure to find love, or I’ll die at Christmas? And when the only one to help me is Malfoy? Well, he wasn’t really that horrible, it’s jus that I’m not so sure if I can trust him after all those years before.

As if reflecting my mood, the sun was covered behind the thick gray clouds, and the temperature dropped. I can almost see my breath. I quickened my pace a bit and entered the Great Oak doors of Hogwarts. One step at a time. I walked up the stairs towards the Head common room and slowly walked to his room.

I stood outside, staring at the door before me. I heard kicking and objects being thrown around the room, so I knew it wasn’t a good idea to go in right now. I can hear Malfoy screaming, kicking everything around him. “Damn that Mudblood Granger!” He screamed. “Damn Serena,” He yelled kicking something that apparently smashed to the wall. Then everything stopped. I wondered why it got so quiet, then I think I heard a muffled sob. Who was Serena?

I lifted my hand, ready to knock when I heard glass shatter and fall on the floor. Not even bothering to knock, I entered his room. It was dark. Dark walls, sheets, furniture, it seemed like nothing can brighten up this room.

“Get out of here Granger,” Malfoy growled at me. I stood ground and didn’t move. I looked around, seeing broken chairs everywhere, the drawers on the cabinets where dented, the hangings from his bed was shredded, mirrors were cracked and the picture frame he held in his hand was shattered. What have you been doing Malfoy? He didn’t answer me. It’s either he didn’t want to, or he couldn’t hear me.

I made a move, take a step closer and when I was close enough, I gently put a hand on his shoulder feeling bad for him, but he just pushed my hand away and walked towards his bed, his back towards me. “Get out!” he yelled even more fiercely. Not until you tell me what is going on! I put both my hands on my hips and waited for an answer.

“Why do you care so much huh?” He asked coldly. Why did you care so much about my life? Malfoy had no answer for that one. “Get out,” He repeated, but softly this time. You are seriously going to lock yourself up in here? I wonder why that seer didn’t put this stupid enchantment on you. I was sick of his attitude, and sick of his stubbornness.

“Fine, then what do you want?” He sneered, still not looking at me. I want you to stop this and get out of this room!

“I’m not leaving this place,” Malfoy murmured. You know whatever you said to me comes right back at you! You feel like your whole world is falling apart because you got your heart broken.

“It doesn’t matter for me. I’m not the one under an enchantment here,” He got up from his bed, quickly sending a glare my way and leaving the common room. I frowned looking around the room and with a wave of my wand, I cleaned up everything. I didn’t know where Malfoy went anymore.

I ran out our common room, and ran all around the castle, looking for him knowing he’ll end up doing something stupid. There was no use. He wasn’t anywhere to be found. Where has he gone to?

“Well if it isn’t mudblood Granger,” A Slytherin I recognized to be Blaise Zabini. What did he want now? I have no time for this. I turned and saw him backed up by his fellow Slytherins. He was smirking cockily and walking superiorly. “Heard you don’t have a voice,” How did he know about that. I glared at him, and if looks could kill, he’d be dead right now. “Nothing to say Granger?”

Zabini raised his hand and slapped me across the face and I fell on the ground. I felt searing pain spread through my cheek and I’m pretty sure there was a mark there. “Where’s your boyfriend Weasley?” He gave me a kick in the stomach, and I wrapped my arm around it trying to calm myself. I felt another Slytherin kick me from the back. Zabini raised his foot, about to kick me again when a voice rang loudly from the bottom of the stairs.

“ZABINI!” It was Malfoy. What was he doing here? “What do you think you’re doing?!” He boomed.

“Well hello there Malfoy,” Zabini said in a childish sweet voice. “What would you be doing inside in this fine day?’

“First of all Zabini, you’d realize it was raining and it isn’t a nice day, 2nd of all don’t even use that voice again, I’ve told you that before and 3rd of all what are you doing?” Malfoy finished. No one was paying attention to me as I was crumbled up in a ball holding my stomach.

“Isn’t it obvious Malfoy?” Zabini cocked his head to the side. “Teaching Granger here a lesson for rejecting us Slytherins,” He was talking about today in the three broomsticks when I kicked them out of the pub.

“Leave,” Malfoy growled. “Now,”

“What are you doing?” Zabini asked. “You were always telling me how badly you wanted to beat up Granger and now you have the chance when she has no voice, and you’re turning it down? This isn’t like you!”

“I’m not that low to attack someone when they are vulnerable,” Malfoy glared at the Slytherins before them. “Now leave before I take points away!’

“You wouldn’t,” Zabini asked.

“20 points from Slytherin,” Malfoy said. I didn’t believe this. He was defending me? After all those years where he hated me, he’s defending me now? Has this world gone mad? Not that I didn’t appreciate it, but it was just unbelievable. I sat up from my position and leaned against the wall that was behind me.

“Your taking points from your own house?” He asked.

“Another 20 points,” Malfoy growled.

“What have you become Malfoy? Sticking up for mudbloods? Helping them? Especially Granger!” I regained a bit of strength and took me wand out pointing it at Zabini’s head. I thought of a jinx and his head grew bigger, and bigger then eventually it he fell sideways not being able to carry the weight. The Slytherins turned to me apparently aware that I was ok again. I glared at all of them and they ran away. Typical Slytherins.

I just sat there, and Malfoy came and sat next to me. What was happening? He was being so nice, it was like a sudden change in attitude. “Are you alright?” He asked. I nodded, closing my eyes and leaning my head against the stone wall that was supporting me.

What’s gotten into you Malfoy? I asked him. I didn’t get an answer though. My eyes flickered open and I saw that he wasn’t there anymore. I looked around the corridor but it seemed to be deserted.

I stood up, but as soon as I moved my body, my stomach ached and I feel like someone just kicked me again. I winced in pain, but I didn’t sit back down. I started walking back to my common room which wasn’t that far.

I fell on the couch and stayed there not wanting to move any more. My ribs hurt, and my cheek still stung a bit after that slap I received from Zabini. Malfoy just helped me. When I saw him I thought he’d start kicking me too. There was something wrong with him these days. Even though he was forced to help me, I didn’t think he’d actually do it. “Hermione?” I recognized Ron’s voice from behind the portrait hole. “Hermione? Are you in her?” He asked. I guess he didn’t need an answer because he entered the common room without one. “Hey,” he said once he saw me. “What are you doing lying down?”

I just smiled and shrugged at him, even though it hurt too much, I couldn’t let him know what happened to me. God knows what he’ll do. “Want to go to the Quidditch Pitch? Harry and Ginny are off somewhere so I though I’d come and find you!” Ron said to me cheerfully. I couldn’t say anything but yes, so I slowly stood up and tried not to show any pain. I clenched my fist together from the pain I was feeling. He took a hold of my arm and stirred me around the castle out the doors and into the fresh air.

“Why are you so quiet these days?” He asked. I shrugged again, and felt a surge go through my body which wasn’t good. “Lets go!” The rest of the day, I spent it with Ron. He kept asking my why I wasn’t talking to him and I kept shrugging. I was starting to get worried about Malfoy. Not that I cared or anything.. I’m just worried of what he’ll do if he’s mad. The whole time when Ron was trying to explain the game of Quidditch to me, my mind was somewhere else. On someone else. I really couldn’t believe what I was thinking or why I was thinking it but I couldn’t stop my self. Even if it is about Malfoy.

“Let’s go back in,” He said as it started getting dark. I stood up slowly, still in pain. On the way back to the castle, he forced my hand in his and turned to me smiling. I gave a light smile and tried to tug my hand away, but his grip got tighter. We walked like that, through the halls up the stairs and on the way to head’s common room. I didn’t feel comfortable with Ron holding my hand, but I couldn’t do anything since I couldn’t talk, and I was really weak.

He stopped at the front of the entrance and faced me. After a few seconds of uncomfortable silence, I waved bye, smiled lightly then heaved my body inside. But before I could get in, he pulled me into him and kissed me. It was really sloppy and wet which I didn’t like. I tried to push him away, but he was too strong and was holding me too close to him. After what seemed like a long time, he ended it with a smile on his face and left me there disgusted. Sure he was my best friend.. but I didn’t like him that way. That was when I noticed it. Malfoy was there on the other end of the stairs. Looking up at me. I just stared at him, and after a few moments, his emotionless face turned into that famous smirk of his then he turned away walking.

Knowing that he would be up to something.. I just went inside the common room and collapsed on the couch then everything went black.

I groaned as I saw light stream into my eyes. “I didn’t think you were that stupid not to go to the hospital wing after that little incident of yours Granger,” My eyes shot open and I saw Malfoy sitting back in the chair near my bed reading a book. I looked around the room and noticed I was in the hospital wing. “3 broken ribs and it didn’t bother you?”

What are you doing here? “You should be happy because I’m the one who brought you here,”

Why? “Why?” He asked. “You were out cold lying on the couch,”

Well you didn’t have to bring me here. She’s never going to let me out until the next week. I told him coldly. “Do you think I’m happy about it to? I have to stay with you until you get out,” He said grumpily.

No one is making you stay Malfoy. “Yes, Dumbledore is. He even did something to the doors so I can’t get out,” Sometimes I really hated Dumbledore.

How long do I have to stay here? “4 Days,” He replied flipping a page. I was stuck here in the hospital wing for 4 days. With Malfoy. This was going to be… interesting.

What exactly are we suppose to do here? It’s been 2 days and I feel better, but Madame Pomfrey wouldn’t let me out. “How should I know,” Malfoy asked. He was lying back in his char, his head up staring at the ceiling.  I was bored to death so I decided to get him mad.

God, I can’t believe I’m stuck here with you. His head shot up and I saw him glare at me. “Do you think I want to be stuck here with you? Dumbledore even put a bloody spell on the door so I don’t get out!”

I rather spend 4 days locked up in here with the giant squid rather than you. “Yeah, right,” He said rolling his eyes at me.

At least the squid has better manners than a ferret. “Yeah, if you include it sucking your face off,”

That’s what you do to girls Malfoy  “At least I have relationships,”

I wouldn’t call it relationships since you’re never with a girl for more than a week. “You’re the one to talk. I’ve never seen you with any guy. Except Weasley, but I wouldn’t count him as one,”

I’ve been in relationships longer than you Malfoy. “How would you know,”

I don’t. But I bet I have been. And I’m not the one that’s been dumped. “Who said someone dumped me,” He sneered.

It’s obvious. “What ever you say Granger. But just remember, no one has ever broken up with a Malfoy,”

What was her name. Serena? I’m guessing she was the first one. I was pushing it. I knew I was. I could practically see steam coming from his ears. “You don’t know what you’re talking about Granger, so shut up.”

Maybe she broke up with you because she thinks you’re a bad kisser. It was random yes, but I intended to get him mad. Before I knew it..

He kissed me.

The Christmas Enchantment

Previously: Maybe she broke up with you because she thinks you’re a bad kisser. It was random yes, but I intended to get him mad. Before I knew it..

He kissed me.

Malfoy was kissing me. I didn’t know what to do. I just sat there wide eyed staring at him. His eyes were close and his lips were moving against mine. I couldn’t believe Draco Malfoy, Prince of Slytherin was kissing me. But I had to admit, that he was better than Ron. Way better. He broke the kiss, but he didn’t move away from my face. “Still think she broke up with me because of that?”

I shook my head slowly, still staring at him. “Think Weasley is better than me?” I shook my head again. My mind wasn’t in the right place, so I didn’t know what I was answering to. I saw him smirk and then he finally pulled back.

He turned back around, heading for the seat that he was sitting on near my bed and picked up the book he was reading. He sat down, and started reading, but sending a smug look at me before it. This was going to be one hell of a week.

**

It’s snowing. I was looking out the window in the hospital wing since Madame Pomfrey wouldn’t let me leave. It’s my last day here, and my hope of finding true love was down to a 6 out of 10. I had a week left till Christmas. Draco just came back from taking a shower in the private bathroom that was in the hospital wing, and was now working on his essay that was due tomorrow. It’s so beautiful. I thought to myself. I wish I could go out there.

Draco looked up from his essay but didn’t say anything. I could feel his eyes on me, but I didn’t turn around. Don’t you like snow Malfoy? I asked him.

He shook his head without looking up at me. Why not?
“Why so curious about everything Granger?” He asked. Just curious. I answered.

“Curiosity killed the cat,” I didn’t answer him and I don’t plan to. “I just don’t want to remember,” He tells me. Remember what?

“I’m not telling you that,” He said. What ever you don’t want to remember, you will eventually. The more you don’t want to, the more you do.

“How are you so sure?,” Malfoy asked me. Shouldn’t you realize it by now? The other day you seemed so mad at that girl. Didn’t that make you remember her even more? I saw that he was surprised that I knew what he didn’t want to remember.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” He said turning back to the essay that settled in his lap. I heard you. Serena is it? That day when we came back from Hogsmeade, you were throwing things around your room.

“What were you doing spying on me?” He asked angrily. I wasn’t spying on you Malfoy. I said turning to look at him. I was going to go up to your room to apologize when I heard you trashing around.

“Haven’t I told you not to go in my room before?” What is it that you have to hide? I asked standing up. Why are you always locking yourself up?

“I do not lock myself up Granger,” He said fiercely trying to control his anger. “Stay out of by business,” You never left me alone when I asked you to. So, no. I don’t think I will either.

“Stop acting like you know everything!” Malfoy shouted at me. I was taken aback for a moment. “You know nothing about me Granger!”

I didn’t talk for a moment. He must’ve realized that I would’ve left it at that since he went back to his essay.

I honestly don’t understand you Malfoy. I said softly looking back out the window, watching the snow fall gently on the ground. It’s like you have this whole other side of you that you don’t let anyone see.

“What are you talking about?” He asked. You obviously loved her.

“Why can’t you leave that alone?” Malfoy said. Maybe that’s the reason you act so superior and cruel to other people.

“I act like that because that’s the way I am to people,” He responded. I don’t know why she fell for you then. I saw anger flash in his eyes but I didn’t care.

Malfoy’s mouth opened and close, as if he was about to say something, but when nothing came out the 3rd time his face was full of rage. “She did what she wanted,” I never met a girl that would want to go out with a pathetic ferret like you. Except Parkinson of course. I smirked.

He groaned and fell back into the seat. “Only to her,” I didn’t understand. “Because she was her,” Was that suppose to be an answer?

“Why don’t you answer that Granger?” He replied. “You seem to know everything,” I went back to the window, looking outside again and thinking about what he had said. So he did have a loving side. Something I never expected from a Malfoy.

Was there ever another her? “Maybe,” Malfoy answered. “In the future there might be,” his answer was almost a whisper when he got lost in another book. Who knew he could read?

Maybe he was different from all the rest. Something no one else has seen before. But how can anyone possibly see that when he’s locked it away and covered it with that.

*

I’m finally out! I threw my hands in the air happily. “Why are you so happy?” Malfoy said coming up to me. “You have like, 6 days left till Christmas,” My face fell and I glared at Malfoy.

Do you always have to kill my mood? I asked. “Yes,” He answered.

“Anyway,” He said. “I found you a date,” A date? “His name is Anthony Lopez”

You found me a date? I asked angrily. “Shouldn’t you thank me?” I don’t want to go on some stupid blind date. “Alright fine. Then die at Christmas,” He said shrugging.

But why? “If you go out with someone, you’ll be off my back for the whole day,” of course.

***

“GRANGER!” I heard him yell at the bottom of the stairs. “HURRY UP!” I rolled my eyes and continued brushing my hair. “HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET DRESSED?” I descended down the stairs. I’m a girl Malfoy, you should know, we take a long time getting ready.

He rolled his eyes at me and we walked down stairs and out the castle towards Hogsmeade. What was his name again? A- something? “Anthony Lopez. Ravenclaw,” Right.

We met Anthony in the Three Broomsticks. He wasn’t all that bad. Actually, Anthony was handsome, tall and smart. Nothing like Malfoy. Yuck, did I just compare a guy to Malfoy?

“Ready to go?” He asked me when Malfoy was gone. I nodded and we went out the Three Broomsticks and walked the streets of Hogsmeade. “Where to first?” I thought then pulled him over to Honeydukes. Anthony laughed a bit then followed me inside. It was crowded and packed with other Hogwarts students.

“oh, Hermione!” I head a familiar voice call out. “Hermione!” I think it was Ginny. I pulled Anthony with me as I pushed through the crowd. My face seemed to brighten when I reached Ginny. She gave me a hug then asked about Anthony.

“Who’s he?” She asked me. I thought for a moment, then started motioning to ask Malfoy since I couldn’t talk, or ask him. “Oh alright,” Ginny said smiling. “Gotcha,” She joined her 6th year friends and I went back to Anthony. He bought be 3 rose chocolates, with a whole box of chocolate. I smiled at him since I couldn’t talk. I turned my head, towards the three broomsticks, and I thought I saw something dark move across it. I shook my head thinking it was my imagination.

“I remember that time,” He started. We were walking along the roads of Hogsmeade. Just walking, not planning to go anywhere. “Malfoy set out fliers in everyone’s common room to win a real date with you. It also included that you couldn’t talk because you had a very bad cold.

“I’d say that you can’t talk at all,” I rummaged through my bag and found paper and a marker. Why would you say that?

“I remember my father telling me about this old witch that came to magical schools. I don’t know how often, but they pick on people who had horrible past that eventually may change their lives. So basically to teach them a lesson.

“That time in the great hall, I saw you sitting down, then the next I saw you standing maybe you were the one picked on. The witch usually takes one of your 5 senses. And if you had a cold, you wouldn’t be here with me now,” How do you know all this?

“Just do,” He answered. “So what do you have to do? Obviously there’s something you have to do by midnight on some day,” How do you know that?

“that’s how the story always goes,” Should I tell him? I hesitated a bit, then started writing something when I heard a loud crash somewhere behind us. We both turned around and saw nothing. Anthony kept walking but I stayed behind, and walked over to where I heard it. At first, I didn’t see anything, but I saw something move in the dark.

I stepped closer. MALFOY? His hands went to his head. “God Granger, stop screaming,” I grabbed his ear and pulled him out of where he was hiding. What do you think you’re doing following me on a date? “I wasn’t following you,” He said stubbornly. Then what were you doing hiding there? I knew I saw someone running that time near the three broomsticks. “I wasn’t there!” He yelled angrily.

Then what are you doing here Malfoy? “I had nothing to do so I decided to take a walk around here,”

If you were walking, what were you doing hiding? Why did you fall anyway? “I wasn’t hiding Granger,” I looked over his shoulder and looked to where he was hiding. The drain pipe was broken and shattered on the floor.

Did you fall off the roof? I asked laughing slightly. He opened his mouth to say something but nothing came out. Did you? “No,” He said. Then why did you fall?
“I didn’t fall,” A frown formed on his face. I threw a big rock at it and it fell,” Sure. I looked back and saw Anthony waiting for me. You better not follow me around anymore. go back to the castle now! “who are you to order me around?” GO! He didn’t say another word. He just glared at me then walked back.

“Was that Malfoy?” Anthony asked. I nodded then we went inside the Three broomsticks.

**

“Do you know what time it is?” Was the first time Malfoy said to me when I got back from my date. Yeah, it’s 12:00 I said.

“It’s midnight and you get back now?” he said furiously. Why are you so mad?

“First you accuse me of following you, and now, you get back at midnight!” Were you waiting for me? His angry look faded, and he opened his mouth a few times to say something but then nothing came out. “I was not waiting for you. I just couldn’t sleep,”

How long were you waiting? “I was not waiting!” I walked passed him and got a drink from our mini fridge. “Why were you back so late?” He asked more softer.

When we got back he invited me back to his common room. “Are you guys,” he said slowly. “Going out?” What is it to you? “Just answered the question!” He screamed. Yeah, we’re going out. So what? He stomped back up to his room and left me wondering why he was so mad.

I sat on the couch, tired from my day. I stared into the fire for a while, then noticed something that was open on the table. It was a book. I picked it up. No.. a Journal. Malfoy’s Journal.

She went on a date today and our common room was so….

A/N: yep, a cliffy ^_^. yeah, I would totally think that Malfoy is starting to show some kind of feelings towards her. I changed it around, now it's a journal since boys don't normaly keep diaries.
sorry it took so long. read and review!

She went on a date today and our common room was so….

*

I sat on the couch, tired from my day. I started into the fire for a while until an open book on the table caught my eye. It was a book. I picked it up. No… a diary. Malfoy’s diary.

She went on a date today and our common room felt so different; so empty. I must really be going soft on her because this is definitely not me. What is going on with me? I’m a Malfoy! I shouldn’t be worried about a muggle born like her! She must be rubbing

Next Day

“Miss Granger, just because you don’t have a voice doesn’t give you the right not to pay attention!” Professor Snape sneered as he leaned over the table to get closer to Hermione. She was paired with Draco for potions, and she suddenly got distracted when a flying airplane hit her hade. Of course, with her being a Gryffindor, Snape didn’t miss a thing. He decided to have a little fun with her.

“Tell me Miss Granger, how much times do you have to cut toad legs for this potion?” Hermione opened her mouth to say the correct answer, but nothing came out. Instead, they were echoing in Draco’s head next to her. “How many times do you have to stir it clockwise?” Nothing. “ And how long does it take to make this potion?” About 42 minutes. “I suggest you pay attention next time Miss Granger,” Hermione scowled at him. “30 points from Gryffindor, and detention Miss Granger,”

“She was paying attention!” Draco defended. All eyes suddenly turned to the Slytherin who just defended the Gryffindor. “But someone threw a paper airplane at her. You’ll be crazy to give her detention,” He ended after looking at her face.

“10 points from Slytherin, and detention for you too Mr. Malfoy. Both of you in my office 7:00 tonight,” Murmurs went through the room as Snape continued to teach, Draco sunk lower into his seat, not believe what he has just done.

What’s gotten into you? Hermione asked him. “Shut up Granger,” He responded looking away. Draco fled the dungeons before everyone, pushing past Hermione. She looked after him, and knew something was up.

“Hermione,” Neville said coming up to her. She waved nicely. “I can’t believe Malfoy did that for you, he’s usually laughing when that happens,”

“Yeah Hermione,” Lavender added. “Some thing is up with that Slytherin, and I intend to find out,”

Hermione walked out and to her next class. She had it with Draco again too. “Guess who,” Someone covered her eyes as she turned a corner. A smile formed on her face when she heard his voice. Taking his hands of her face slowly, she turned and hugged him. “Whoa,” He said hugging her back. “Missed me?”

After their date in Hogsmeade, they became so close, in such a short time, Hermione felt like she knew him already. He felt the same about her. “Want to do something after lessons?” He asked her when they both parted.

Hermione sighed and pointed to Snape’s office. “Detention?” Anthony asked. Hermione nodded. “Well, I’ll just catch up with you another time,” He kissed her on the forehead. “I need to get to class,” he waved and left.

***
“Miss Granger, would you kindly help Mr. Malfoy with his work,” They were both in charms and coincidently, she was seated next to Draco. Hermione nodded and turned to Draco.

“I don’t need your help Granger,” Malfoy said trying the charm again, but failing. Just wave you hand and say it clearer. It’s either he didn’t hear Hermione, or he just simply didn’t want to listen.

After a while of Draco and his annoying attitude, Hermione got fed up. What is wrong with you today Malfoy? “Nothing is wrong with me Granger,” He said firmly.

What is with you and your attitude? “I have no attitude!” He said through gritted teeth.
Yeah, sure Malfoy what ever you say.

He didn’t respond after that and just tried to redo the spell over and over again until Hermione shouted at him. You know I thought that you actually might be nicer than you normally are but then I guess I was wrong! Now I know a Malfoy can never change.

“You have no idea what you’re talking about granger so shut up!” Malfoy got up, grabbed his bag and left the room after retorting “Stupid mudblood,”

“Hermione wasn’t even talking to him,” Parvarti said to Lavender who was seated in the row behind Hermione. “Why the hell did Malfoy blow up like that?”

“He’s gone mad,” Ron whispered to Harry.

“He’s not the only one acting strange,” Harry muttered eyeing his best friend carefully. He noticed that she hasn’t been saying much to them the past week and that she’s been hanging more and more around Malfoy. Then out of no where she starts dating a Ravenclaw. “Hey Ron,” he said. “Don’t you think Hermione’s been acting a bit weird?”

“Well,” Ron replied after a while of thinking, and studying the girl a few rows in front of them. “No, not really. She has been avoiding us though,”

“Didn’t you say you talked to her that day you went to the Quidditch pitch?” Harry asked.

“Yes, but only for a while,” He replied. “She’s been talking to Ginny though. I asked Ginny the same question a few days ago, and she finds nothing wrong with her,”

”Did you know she was dating that Ravenclaw beater?” Harry asked Ron. He watched Ron’s eyes widen to the fact that Hermione is going out with someone.

“Which beater?” Ron asked.

“Ron, there’s only one beater in Ravenclaw that’s a guy,” Ron’s face turned red, and you can almost see smoke coming out of his ears.

***

I was pushed up against the wall, my arms were wrapped around his neck and our lips were locked. His hands rested on my waist hugging me tightly. It was quarter to 7 and I knew that I had to get going for detention. His tongue slid across my lower lip, and I opened my mouth obediently for him. Well, maybe I could stay a little longer.

I really liked Anthony. In the pass few days we spent with each other, my feelings grew each day. We had a lot of things in common, and it seems like he was comfortable to tell me anything. I knew he loves Quidditch, and is a beater for Ravenclaw team. His father died when he was very little, and only his mother was left to take care of him. His favorite flavor is chocolate ice cream, a fair amount of girls liked him, he’s got decent grades and he has a little sister in 3rd year who’s name is Anna.

I slowly pulled back and unwrapped my arms from his neck. He looked at me but then understood and let me good. I gave him a kiss on the cheek then made my war for the dungeons. I knew our relationship was moving too fast, but since I have 5 days left till my dead line, I wasn’t worried.

Narrator P.O.V

“Get started on cleaning these cauldrons,” Snape pointed to a bunch of cauldrons pilled up on the side of the classroom as soon as Draco and Hermione got to detention. “I’ll check on both of you after an hour,” The door slammed shut behind the professor, and Draco walked lazily to the pile of cauldrons on the side of the room; Hermione followed.

Draco glanced side ways and saw Hermione staring at the pool of green liquid that was peeking out from under the cauldrons. “That’s just potion Granger. Do that side,” He pointed to his left. “and I’ll do this side,” He pointed to his right. Draco was the first one to move and start on his part of the mess.

The sat in silence for detention. Meaning, Draco kept blocking out Hermione’s thoughts and Draco never said a word. The dirty cauldrons were decreasing fast, and soon they were finished with everything. “It’s a week `till Christmas,” Draco pointed out. “I wonder if you gained Lopez’s love yet,” Hermione heard him snigger but didn’t ask him about it even though it offended her. Instead, she took the rag that she was using, dumped it in water, and chucked it at Draco, not even bothering to squeeze the water out.

Draco couldn’t believe she just did that. He just stared at her, and Hermione just continued cleaning pretending it never happened. Next thing she knew, her a rag was thrown to her face and she could smell the soapy water, and dirty rag. She sat up quickly, causing the bucket of water mixed with soap to spill. Draco stood up as well and backed away from Hermione. She grabbed the bucket that was on the floor and it refilled immediately. Get back here. She growled when Malfoy started running to the other side of the room. Hermione pulled out her wand and the bucket started chasing Malfoy around.

Hermione was laughing holding her wand out making sure not to lift the charm. Even though he could hear or see her, he could tell that she was amused by this. Better run Malfoy. She said wickedly. The bucket landed on his head causing all the water to spill when he made the mistake of stopping, turning around and pulling his wand out.

“You’ll pay for that Granger,” He sent a smirk towards her and took the bucket that was on his head, and threw the contents at Hermione. She was now drenched, and her clothes was sticking to her body, giving Malfoy a look at her bra. “Nice bra Granger,” He laughed. Hermione enchanted a bucket so it hovered above where Draco stood, but they both heard the dungeon doors open and shut. Hermione went back to cleaning the cauldrons, laughing a little as Draco ran to his side and grabbed the rag that was discarded on the floor. He refilled his bucket and started cleaning just in time as Professor Snape came in the classroom.

“What happened here?” He questioned as he saw the water on the floor, bubbles everywhere and only half of the cauldrons clean. “You better not be fooling around,”

“We weren’t Professor,” Draco said. Hermione was about to turn back to cleaning when the bucket hovering above the Professor caught her eye.

“What are you staring at Granger?” Professor Snape asked. Hermione just shook her head and turned back around glancing towards Draco who had an evil glint in his eyes.

Malfoy! Don’t do it. He heard in his mind. Draco just smirked then with an unnoticed wave of his wand, the bucket flipped over, causing water to spill on their Potions teacher. Draco and Hermione turned around quickly, their bodies shaking from laughter. Draco couldn’t stifle a snort, and Hermione’s just lucky she can’t speak.

“You two will stay here even longer to clean up this mess!” He whipped around and slammed the door behind him. When they were both sure that Snape was gone, they dropped whatever they were holding and started laughing at the sight of their Professor drenched.

At least he finally gets to clean his greasy head. Hermione laughed. When he was calm Draco just waved his wand and the mess on the floor was clean.

***

The two walked out of the dungeons, their clothes dripping wet. Draco had walked with Hermione all the way up to their common room “Hey Hermione!” Hermione turned around to see her current boyfriend walking up to her. He gave her a short kiss and smiled down. “Hey Draco,” Draco nodded and waited for them to finish talking. "Why are you two wet?" He asked. "Detention?"

"Yeah," Draco replied.

“Tomorrow’s Hogsmeade day,” He said turning back to his girlfriend who was in his arms.. “Coming with me?” Hermione nodded. “Draco, want to come?”

Hermione looked up at him, and Draco just nodded. “Yeah, sure thanks,” He left her with a kiss good-bye and they walked back to their common room. Even though they went to Hogsmeade yesterday, there weren’t any lessons planned because of the upcoming Christmas ball.

“Hermione?” When Hermione and Draco reached the common room, they found Ron and Harry waiting front of their portrait hole. Hermione was cautious around these two since they had no idea what happened to her a week ago. “I-i- have to ask you something,” Ron walked closer to her. “I hear that you're going out with that Ravenclaw beater.”

“See you later,” Draco whispered to Hermione, but hermione pulled him back.

“Is it ture?" Ron asked his voice filled with anger.

"Yeah, so what Weasley?" Draco said.

"He wasn't asking you Malfoy," Harry cut in. "Hermione," He turned back to his best friend. "What's going on with you?"

"She's perfectly fine Potter," Draco spat and pulled Hermione away leading her inside the common room, but Harry held her back.

"I wasn't talking to you Malfoy," He said. "Hermione what happened with us? It's like we aren't even your friends anymore," Hermione looked down at the floor trying to say something. She didn't want her friendship with Harry and Ron to end but she knew they'd be mad at her if she didn't say anything to them. "Especially when you get a boyfriend, Malfoy defending you in class, and you becoming buddies with him!"

"It's like you don't even care about us anymore," Ron interjected. "Are we just not good enough for you? Is that why you needed a new boyfriend and a new best friend?"  Ron said angrily. Hermione felt tears springing from her eyes but she told herself to stop. "You talk to Ginny, to Neville, to Parvarti, to Lavender," His voice got angrier the more he spoke. "Why not bother sharing your life with us?"

"Ron," Harry warned knowing his friend was going too far. Hermione was about to leave but this time, Ron grabbed her arm.

"When I kissed you, did that just mean nothing?" His blue eyes were locked with her chocolate brown ones. "Did it?!" Hermione freed herself from his grasp, and ran into her common room.

"What kind of friends are you to put her on the spot like that?" Draco asked angrily.

"You don't even know anything about her Malfoy," Harry fought as Ron cooled down a bit.

"I know about her more than both of you put together," Draco spat. "If you were her friend, you'd be concerned about her situation and not your own," He left them standing there and went inside to find Hermione by the fire crying.

Not knowing what to do to comfort her, he did the only thing he knew what to do. Draco walked over to Hermione and wrapped his arms around her whispering comforting words. “it’s alright,”

Chapter 6: Chapter Six
[Printer Friendly Version of This Chapter]

The Christmas Enchantment 6
By: GryffindorGirl153

Hermione hasn’t seen either Ron or Harry ever since that night in the common room. Harry has tried speaking to Hermione more that once but didn’t even get close to her since Anthony and Draco has been over protective.

As for Draco and Hermione, they’ve gotten closer and are no longer “enemies”. At least to Draco of course. They were seen walking together everywhere and if not, that would mean Hermione is with Anthony.

Draco felt happy with her and couldn’t help but smile whenever she was around. He knew it was just because they were friends now, and he just wasn’t use to that fact. Well, that’s what he thought. Anthony noticed Draco’s behavior around her as well. He knew what Draco’s feelings for her were, that’s why he’s trying to keep Hermione for himself. Hermione on the other hand, didn’t notice a thing. She thinks that this is just Draco’s normal behavior around his friends so she shook it off every time the thought came to her mind.

Vacation came up but students wouldn’t be going home until after Christmas because of the Christmas ball in two days. Dumbledore gave the students permission to leave for Hogsmeade until Christmas to buy their outfits and gifts.

“Ugh,” Draco groaned when he strode towards Hermione who was in the great hall doing her holiday homework. “We have a whole week and a half off and you’re doing homework now?” He asked her sitting down.

I don’t want to have to do this over the break. She replied glancing at him slightly then going back to concentrating on her work.

“Well, do you’re homework later,” Draco said shutting her text book close. “We’re going to Hogsmeade,” He flashed a smile.

Hogsmeade? Hermione groaned. Draco, I told you, I don’t need to go. She opened her text book again and looked for the page she was on before. I already bought every ones gift last week.

“Yeah, but you forgot to buy your dress for the ball tomorrow night,” He said.

Didn’t I tell you already? Hermione asked him.

“Tell me what?” Draco asked confused.

I’m not planning to go to the ball. She replied. Actually I’m just not going.

“What?” He exclaimed. “Why not?”

Draco, Hermione sighed. You know my situation. What if Anthony doesn’t love me by Christmas Eve? I don’t want everyone seeing me like that.

Hermioneeeeeee,” Draco begged. I mean pleaded. “C’mon go to the ball,”

No Draco.

**

“Hey,” Ginny called out when she saw Draco in the hallway. Surprisingly alone. “Did you see Hermione?” She asked when he turned around.

“Yeah,” Draco said. “I think she’s up in our common room,”

“Oh okay thank you!” Ginny ran towards their common room, but then she turned back obviously forgetting something. “Wait, I don’t know the password,” Draco laughed and him and Ginny walked to the heads common room.

**

“Harry,” Ron asked. “What happened to us and Hermione,”

“Ron, you’re the one that a started screaming at her,” Harry replied. They were both looking for books in the library.

“Do you think we should apologize?” Ron asked.

“I tried,” he replied. “But I can’t even get near her because of Malfoy and her current boyfriend,”

Ron sighed. “We’ll try to at the ball,”

“SHHHHHHHHHH,”

**

Hermioneee,” Ginny sang when she found her friend walking in the hallway. Hermione turned around and mouthed a hi, when she saw Ginny. “Did you get a dress yet?” Hermione shook her head. Ginny smiled and led her towards the entrance of Hogwarts. “Time to go to Hogsmeade,”. Hermione didn’t really have a choice since Ginny dragged her outside.

**

The two girls were browsing through a very expensive store not far from the Three Broomsticks. Ginny handed Hermione about a dozen gowns and pushed her into the changing rooms to try them on. The first one was a black dress that went up to her knees. It was strapless and was plain black. Hermione came out of the dressing room and Ginny shook her head.

The next dress was green and it went a little past her knees. They went through several dresses before Hermione came to the last one. It was pink, just like the dress she wore to the Yule Ball, except it went down right to her knees and had a second fabric over the pink that made it shimmer. It hugged tightly around all her curves and she looked perfect in it.

Hermione was about to come out when she heard Draco’s voice outside. “What are you doing here?” He asked Ginny. “Waiting for Hermione,” She replied. Hermione came outside and both their eyes fell on her. A smile formed on Ginny’s face and Draco couldn’t help but stare. Like I said, it was perfect.

“We have a winner,” Ginny smiled coming over and turning Hermione around to look at her fully.

“I thought you said you weren’t planning on going,” Draco said once he recovered.

I’m not sure. Ginny just dragged me here, and you know.. she can’t really understand me. Hermione replied.

“Well, you have a gown,” Draco said. “Now, you have to go to the ball,”

“What did she say?” Ginny asked Draco. He ignored her question.

But, Hermione started looking down at what she was wearing. I can’t pay for this. She was right. Hermione only had a little money with her and this dress was expensive. VERY EXPENSIVE. Draco told her to take the gown off, and Hermione changed back into her normal clothes. Draco paid for the dress and Hermione insisted on taking it back but he wouldn’t hear of it.

Thank you. Hermione said.

Previourlsy:

But, Hermione started looking down at what she was wearing. I can’t pay for this. She was right. Hermione only had a little money with her and this dress was expensive. VERY EXPENSIVE. Draco told her to take the gown off, and Hermione changed back into her normal clothes. Draco paid for the dress and Hermione insisted on taking it back but he wouldn’t hear of it.

Thank you. Hermione said.

“So, what are you planning to be?” Draco asked. Hermione and Draco both walked the streets of Hogsmeade carrying a shrunken size of Hermione’s dress. Ginny went to find Harry and Ron after they finished buying heir gowns for tomorrows ball.

When I grow up? She asked.

“Yeah,” Draco answered.

Maybe a healer. Hermione answered. Maybe an Auror.

“Auror?” Draco laughed. “I’d expect that from you,”

Where exactly are we going? Hermione asked when she noticed that they were walking aimlessly.

“Don’t you just like to walk around?” Draco asked walking into a park near by. “Not knowing where you’re going?”

Hermione chuckled. I Never expected those words to come out of your mouth.

“We can’t expect anything from each other can we?” He said. “I mean, we barely know each other,”

I guess so. She saw swings and grinned before running towards them and sitting down. Draco went behind her and pushed lightly making Hermione go up in the air.

“Name 10 things you like,” Draco asked.

Where did this come from? She asked.

“Well, since we don’t know anything about each other,” He continued. “Might as well start,”

She laughed and answered his question. 10 things I like? She went higher and higher in the air as he pushed harder. Chocolate, She smiled. My friends, my family, books.

“Books,” Draco rolled his eyes.

Hermione continued ignoring his remark. Shopping, the color pink, roses, how many is that?

“7,” He answered.

Magic, Vanilla ice cream, and…. My boyfriend.

“Anthony?” He asked.

Do I have any other boyfriend that you know of? He shook his head slightly.

“Now,” He said. “10 things you hate,”

That’s EASY. I hate… Voldemort, sickness, traitors, fake people, needles, knives, medicine, dirt, insects and rodents.

“Let me ask you something,” He grabbed the swings which stopped immediately. “Are you glad that you are under this curse?”

What do you mean? They were both facing each other.

“From everything you gained,” Draco said softly. “Are you happy?”

Of course I am. I figured I shouldn’t wait around just because I had my heart broken, and I also realized, you aren’t as bad as I thought you were. Draco nodded his head. Why did you do those things before?

He sighed and sat down on the next swing and slowly rocked back and forth. “My dad,” He started. “He was always the one to plan my life before I can even decide anything for myself. He taught me what to like and dislike, and he made me have the taste of a Malfoy. I over heard them once talking, about how I would be the one to replace my father, as a servant for Voldemort,”

Did you want to be? Hermione asked.

“Of course not,” Draco answered. “But I had no choice. My father soon began to rub off on me, and then it just stayed,”

But you know that you just can’t let your father control you like that. Hermione said.

“It wasn’t a choice for me before,” He answered looking at her. “I didn’t know that I had choices back then. It was either this or that, and both I knew it wasn’t what I wanted to do. The choices were made for me and eventually I lived in a world without them,”

And what’s your choice now? You must obviously have made one since you’re talking to me now.

“I don’t want to be like them,” He said. “I don’t want to kill people, I don’t want to be a servant for Voldemort and I don’t want a bad fate, I don’t want to end up like my father,”

Whatever happened to your mother? She asked.

“My mother was imprisoned,” Draco said. “She was under my fathers command all the time, and she was scared to escape it, and she still is,”

What would your father do?

“Mother knows too much things about their plans for the future, and if she ever tries to escape from his hold, he’ll hunt her down and kill her. I don’t think she meant much to him anyway,”

But you love her?

“She was the one that never gave up on me, and the one who brought me out of my fathers world when I was at home, of course I love her,”

There was a pregnant silence between them. Then she spoke up.

Who’s Serena. Was he ready to tell her about her?

“Serena,” He said softly. “She was my girlfriend back then,”

Did she go to Hogwarts?

“No,” He answered. “She was a prisoner in the manor. My father captured her and made her work as a slave, like a house elf. One day, she came to clean my room and we started talking. I grew to like her more and more, and eventually something started between us,”

What happened to her?

“My father killed her when he found out that we had a relationship. He was always so suspicious when ever I’d bring food up to my room, or buy clothes for her and why she was always so clean and well fed all the time,” Draco said.

I’m sorry. Hermione whispered.

“It’s fine,” Draco answered. “How about you? Ready to tell why this happened to you?”

Hermione sighed then started on her story. His name was James Richardson and he was my neighbor, and still is. Because of him, I started to wonder if love was real. I crushed on him since 2nd year and rumors around were that he felt the same way. Draco nodded. But I’ve been wondering what you feel when you love someone. What love is or why they can’t just call it a strong feeling for someone. Then, I just stopped believing in finding my own.

“Love isn’t something that can be read in books Hermione,”

I know.

“You just feel it,” Draco added.

I know.

“And it comes to everyone at least once in life,”

How about me? Hermione asked. I Have until tomorrow night. Can love work that fast?

“If you believe in it,” Draco said leaning slightly into her unknowingly. “It can,” She did the same. Their lips met and sent sparks through their bodies. They pulled away quickly and looked away from each other.

A/N: noww its getting somewhereeeee. please make sure to read and review! Next chapter is the last! [[maybe]].

The Christmas Enchantment 8

Previously:

“Love isn’t something that can be read in books Hermione,”

I know.

“You just feel it,” Draco added.

I know.

“And it comes to everyone at least once in life,”

How about me? Hermione asked. I have until tomorrow night. Can love work that fast?

Tonight was the ball, and everyone was excited. The great hall was set up with a large Christmas tree in the front filled with ornaments and stars. Dumbledore enchanted the ceiling for it to snow; the walls were silver with sashes hanging from them.

Hermione was staring in the mirror lazily applying blush. She was confused now. When Draco and Hermione kissed, that day in the park, she didn’t know what she felt. It was different than anything before- like she wanted to do it again. Even though, no matter what she felt, Hermione had a loving boyfriend and no one wants to see Malfoy and her together.

She got up, and took the dress out of her closet and slipped it on. She put her hair up with curly strands falling. Her make up was done perfectly, and her dress was gorgeous. She slipped into her shoes and took one last look in the mirror. Hermione didn’t know who she saw in it, but she knew it wasn’t her. Putting that aside, she left her room and came down to meet Anthony who was waiting for her with Draco and his date.

“Draco, can we go already?” Pansy Parkinson asked. She has been begging Draco to take her, and at her 9th attempt, he agreed unwillingly.

“Not yet Pansy,” He snapped. This was the 5th time she asked if they could leave, and they’ve only been here for a while.

“Is that Granger? Draco and Anthony looked up and saw Hermione. Hermione walked over to Anthony and he captured her mouth in his.

“You look beautiful,” he whispered in her ear. When Anthony kissed Hermione, for some reason, it made his blood boil, and he didn’t like that feeling.

“Shall we go now?” Pansy asked.

“Oh, wait,” Draco took something out of his pocket and gave it to Hermione. “It was my mothers. I thought it might go well with that dress,”

It’s beautiful. Hermione said to him. Draco grinned, and she took off her current necklace, to be replaced by the one Draco was giving her. Thank you. He only nodded then left with Pansy.

Anthony offered his arm to Hermione and they left following Pansy and Draco.

When the great hall was filled, Dumbledore spoke. “The first dance, goes to Head Boy and Head Girl,” Hermione and Draco stood up cautiously and met on the dance floor. Music started playing and Draco put his hands on Hermione’s waist and the other to hold her hand. They danced swiftly across the dance floor, in front of the whole 5-7 years and not once, did they leave each others eyes. Pansy was glaring at Hermione seeing the looks Draco was giving her and Anthony was giving death glares to Draco. They both knew something was going on between the two.

The song finally ended, so Draco and Hermione slowly separated. They both felt something missing once they did. Hermione made her way to Anthony and she sat by him while Dumbledore made announcements. When Draco reached his seat next to Pansy, she was completely over him fixing his hair, his tie, placing her hand on his knee and leaning against him.

Music finally started and Anthony asked Hermione if she wanted to dance. Hermione nodded and he led her to the dance floor and they walked to the middle. She saw couples around them dancing and some she knew. Harry and Ginny went together, Ron and Lavender, Dean and Parvarti, and Neville and Luna. They danced to about 3 songs and when Hermione got tired, she sat down and took a few drinks.

“Great ball huh?” Anthony said trying to make some kind of small talk. She smiled and nodded her head at him. He took her hand in his and they both sat there watching everyone else dance. Hermione felt uncomfortable around Anthony now. She felt guilty every time he kissed her or held her hand. She kept telling herself that she’s just can’t stop thinking about that day in the park because of all people, he’s the one that kissed her.

Hermione glanced around, then stood up, taking her hand out of Anthony’s and nodding her head towards the bathroom.

“I’ll wait here,” He said. Hermione smiled a little, then made her way through the crowd and into the bathroom. She locked the door behind her and slid down behind it holding her head in her hands.

No, it was nothing, it was just.. a kiss. She chanted to herself over and over again as she began pacing around. It meant nothing. Anthony is the one you love. It was true. She did love Anthony. After what Draco had said to her about how love works, she realized that she could love him. He was sweet and showered her with gifts, he held her hands anywhere they went, he gave her sweet pecks on the cheek, and he understood the situation she was in.

Draco, Draco on the other hand. He was obnoxious at times, forceful, persistent, yells too much, didn’t know when he went too far, picks on people, has a foul mouth, and can’t even show his feelings towards anything.

Hermione stopped and faced the mirror and took a good look at herself. She remembered when Draco had bought her that dress and gave her the necklace she was wearing. Her hand went up to touch the necklace absentmindedly and played with it.

But he’s also, kind. To Hermione, she saw two people in him. One, was the Malfoy she knew since 1st year, and the second was the one that she was seeing now. She knew that the real Malfoy wouldn’t help her through this and if it hadn’t been for him, she would’ve never gotten this far.

She exited the bathroom and stopped when she saw Draco there leaning against the wall. What are you doing here?

“Well,” He walked over to her. “I heard your voice in my head,” Had he heard what I’ve been saying?

“Draco!” A voice called.

“Pasny,” He growled with a disgusted look on his face.

Hermione smiled. If you don’t like her then why did you bring her here anyways?

“She wouldn’t stop-”

“There you are Draco,” a pug-faced girl came by his side. “Get lost Granger,” Hermione just gave her a look. “C’mon Draco, we’re leaving,”

“Meet me by the doors 10 minutes before midnight,” he whispered to her as Pansy dragged Draco to the dance floor. “I’ll be waiting,”

“What took you so long?” Anthony asked when Hermione was walking back towards him. She mouthed a sorry. “It’s alright. Lets dance,” They made their way in the middle and danced to the music.

“Hermione,” He said loud enough for her to hear. “I’m glad I met you,” Hermione stopped dancing and smiled nervously. “I just wish I could hear your voice again,” A slow song came up, and Anthony pulled her close to him wrapping his arms around her waist and eventually her hands rested on his shoulders. The couple just stood there swaying to the music.

**

“`Mione?” She spun around with a drink in her hand and faced her former friends. “Could you give us a moment?” Ron asked Anthony. He nodded and left to go talk to his friends from Ravenclaw.

“`Mione I’m sorry,” Harry said. “About that fight we had, I’m sorry to be bringing all those things down on you. Can you forgive me?” Hermione took a moment to think then a smile formed on her face and she threw her arms around her best friend.

“Ron!” Ginny yelled when she saw him turn away. She grabbed him by the ear and brought him to face Hermione. “What do you have to say?”

“Ow, ow ,ow!” He screamed. When Ginny let go, his ear was red. “You really are like mum,” Ron muttered. Ginny pulled his ear again when she heard his comment. Harry laughed and dragged Ginny away to dance again. “I’m sorry,” He mumbled.

Hermione leaned in forward since she didn’t hear him. “I said, I’m sorry,” Ron sighed. “I was wrong to say all those things to you, and not trust you,” She smiled and hugged Ron as well. “Think you could spare a dance for me?”

Hermione and Ron danced to 2 songs, of course with Anthony’s permission. “10 minutes `till midnight!” Someone yelled in the crowd. Anthony and Hermione were dancing at the time, and when Hermione made a move to leave, Anthony just pulled her closer to him. “Don’t leave yet, Christmas is 10 minutes away,” Hermione took his arms off her and ran towards the doors of the Great Hall after mouthing sorry to her boyfriend.

Draco wasn’t anywhere near the doors so she ran outside of the castle and saw snow everywhere. She searched around then heard a voice. “Looking for me?” He asked. Hermione saw Draco sitting on the step leaning against the wall. He stood up and joined her. “Snow’s beautiful,” He whispered. She turned away from him and looked at the scenery. He was right. It was beautiful. The snow covered every inch of the ground and was pure white. “Confident you’ll break the spell?” Draco asked.

How can I? I was so sure when I came into the ball. But now, I’m not anymore.

“Why?” He asked her.

Because love is the most confusing thing to learn.

“Anyone can learn it,” He added.

But not from someone you don’t love.

“You don’t love Anthony?” Draco was surprised to hear this. She gave him a shrug as her answer. He scoffed. “You have 4 minutes left and you’re not even sure?”

You were the one that told me that love can work fast.

“But what if that person isn’t Anthony, and doesn’t love you back,” He asked. “What happens then?”

Want to know what I’ve learned from all this? Draco nodded and listened. You have to take risks to love someone. I had to lose my voice just to learn to love, and if I have to, I’ll take the chance to follow my heart.

“You’re so confusing!” He said.

And you’re not? People were counting down from 60. A minute `till Christmas. This was it.

“Are you ready?” He asked. The wind picked up outside and snow began to fall. Hermione nodded slowly, and they both made their way to the great hall. Before they got to the doors, Draco twirled Hermione around and kissed her quickly on the lips. Her heart skipped several beats and her eyes went wide. “Good luck,” He said in a whisper, the pushed her inside the Great Hall, leaving himself to stand by the door watching.

“10….. 9….. 8…. 7….. 6….. 5…..,” the great hall was saying.

“I love you Hermione,” Anthony said facing her.

“4….. 3…..”

“I love you,” He whispered apart from everyone else.

Draco…

“2….. 1,”

I… love you.

“MERRY CHRISTMAS!” Every one was shouting greeting each other. Hermione turned and saw Draco staring straight at her. Her head jerked the other way and she saw Anthony was about to kiss her, then time suddenly stopped. The Great Hall went dark, and she saw the old witch standing before her smiling, showing her yellow teeth.

The witch smiled at her and nodded slowly. “My dear,” She started. “You’ve learned what was taught, and you’ve fallen in love,” Her smile was still there as if it was plastered on her face. “There is a fairy tale ending awaiting you over there,” She pointed her wand towards Draco who was frozen on the spot along as everyone else. “And your voice back,” With a wave of her wand, Hermione saw magic appear and it brought Draco back to life, and Hermione to him.

They both looked at the witch confused but she was gone and everyone else was unfrozen. Draco and Hermione heard someone fall but they didn’t care. They just continued to stare into each others eyes. He kissed her and they stayed like that for god knows how long.

“I love you,” He said to her when they parted. Hermione smiled.

“I love you too,” This made her smile even more. She had her voice back.

“I finally can hear your voice again,” He kissed her lips again and the Enchantment was broken.

A/N: Finished! hoped you all liked the ending. Thank you sooooo much for all the reviews! That sound that they both heard of someone falling is Anthony, since he was going to kiss her then froze at the spot. Haha. Happy ending!
