Hermione has always been herself. But she is losing herself, because she loves Harry. But its Christmas time, and love is in the nightime air, and maybe a lullaby, too!


Chapter 1: Christmas, Goddesses, and Love

I am a girl. I am the bookworm of the century. I am a Gryffindor. I am a witch. I am a muggleborn. I am best friend’s with Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. I am in love with the boy who lived. I am in the war of the century. I am Hermione Granger. I am.

I walked my way towards the edge of the dock. The huge lake that was on Hogwart’s property was a dark black. The waters were choppy, and ice and snow was on its shore. When my toes touched the edge of the dock, I dove in. Clothes and all. I swam till my I was in deep waters, cold, icy waters up to my chin. When I got there I started to float, closed my eyes, and just thought.

‘My sweet, innocent Harry. My Harry… when did I start referring to him as My Harry.’ I felt a swish of water below my feet, but paid no heed to it. ‘I love Harry Potter. Harry Potter with his soulful green eyes. His Quidditch toned body, and his messy raven hair. His caring smile, and the amazing laugh that will always make me laugh.’ I thought, a small smile forming on my face. This time I felt the movement below my feet, and began to worry. I quickly swam to the end, and prepared to get out.

My hand slipped in the wet, slushy snow.

The movement came again. This time I felt fins touch the sole of my heel. I dug in my pockets, looking for my wand.

Nothing. I forgot my wand in the dorm rooms. ‘Stupid me!’ I reprimanded myself.

And then I heard it. His angelic voice calling my name

“Hermione! Hermione, where are you?” Harry’s voice called, and I could just make out his silhouette against the many lights of Hogwart’s castle. He was running towards the lake.

‘But why’ I hadn’t made a noise since I first dove in, and only a light splashing sound from when I slipped off the bank.

Then I felt a slight tug in my heart. Like a string was being pulled. Like it was calling out, to be saved. Seven years of magic schooling could not explain this feeling of connection.

Harry’s figure was getting closer by the second, and so was the creature below me. I could see the dark form of it swirling around my feet. I could make out what he was wearing, but it was just his school uniform. I heard his feet pounding against the wet, snow covered ground beneath him. He was not even a yard away from me now. I heard his heavy breathing now. He started to slow, but the monster below me did not, it was coming higher and higher. My breath hitched in my throat.

“There you are. Why are you in the lake, at this time of night, Hermione? Or even this time of year?” He asked, pulling me out of the lake without a second thought.

“No reason.” I said, a small smile on my face. All thought of the dark creature in the lake left my mind as his warm arms enveloped me.

“Don’t ever scare me like that again! Ron and I combed the whole castle looking for you! I was so scared. But then, something in my mind told me to look in the lake. It was so strange, like I knew where you are, even though I didn’t. We better head back to the castle though, I left Ron by the kitchens, not telling him where I was going. He’s probably worried that both of his friends are gone now.” He started to loosen his hold on me.

“Or, he could be in the kitchen, stuffing his face.” I giggled, slowly sliding my arms tightly around his neck.

Harry chuckled, a low rumble emanated from his chest, sending vibrations through my body. A warm tingle swept through my body.

“Even so, we still have to go tell him your okay.” He started to pull away, and tug me towards the castle.

“No Harry, let’s stay. I want to watch the stars. Will you please stay with me?” I put on my puppy dog stare, begging him to stay.

“But Hermione, your soaked to the bone, and now the front of my uniform is wet, we’ll freeze to death!” he insistently pulled at my arms to make me go, but I stayed put, just to spend a little while longer in his arms.

“Please Harry,” I didn’t even get to finish my sentence, because he just sighed, tugged me under the nearest tree, and plopped down. Since my arms were still wound around his neck, I landed in his lap.

I turned around and watched his solemn expression as he watched the twinkling lights in
the sky. The stars were reflected in his eyes, and it brought the old nursery song to my mouth.

‘Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!’

Harry smiled down at me and continued the song.

‘When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then you show your little light,
Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!’

My body was shaking, but not from the cold, it was the emotion in his eyes. Love. I began to sing with all my heart.

‘Then the traveler in the dark
Thanks you for your tiny spark;
He could not see which way to go,
If you did not twinkle so.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!’

I paused, waiting for him to continue to the next verse, and he did, his voice, a low rumble against my back, made me want to sigh.
‘In the dark blue sky you keep,
While you thro' my window peep,
And you never shut your eye,
Till the sun is in the sky,
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!’

I tilted my head up at the sky, watching the millions of twinkling lights that took my breath away.

‘In the dark blue sky you keep,
While you thro’ my window peep,’

I felt the vibrations of his voice against my back, our voices mixed and made one of the most beautiful sounds I have ever heard.

‘And you never shut your eye,
Till the sun is in the sky,
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!’

“You know everything, Miss Hermione Granger, but do you know the one thing I think of when I look at the stars?” Harry asked me, pulling me out of my dream world.

“No I don’t, Mr. Potter, would you care to enlighten me?” I twisted my body so I could look in his eyes. And what I saw made me gasp. The emotion I saw earlier was now ten times as more noticeable, and he had a soft smile on his lips. It made me wonder if he loved me, but that could never be.

“I think of you, Hermione. I think of how those shining lights remind me of your cinnamon eyes. Your eyes, that our which the window to your soul. I think of how everone of them is unique in there own little way. Just like you Hermione.” His face inched closer to mine.

I was suddenly aware of the cold was seeping through me now. Icy cold hands, mine, were grazing his neck. My face was, I could feel it, had a rosy hue to it from the frost that had started to form between our bodies. But I paid no mind, the only thing on my mnd were his eyes, and oh, of course, his lips. Those lips that were pulling closer to mine. With each breath I took they came close. My heart was pounding a mile a minute, my pulse thudded in my ears. And then it happened. His eyes closed, his lips made contact with mine.

Harry Potter was kissing me.

My eyes fluttered shut, and sighed against his lips. The sigh left a slight gap in my lips, that he took quick opportunity of, and slowly slithered his tongue into my mouth. His warm, oh so delectable tongue.

I was kissing Harry Potter. My dreams were coming true. Along with almost every other girls. Harry Potter was mine. The most wanted man in school was kissing me. And I was kissing back!

He began to pull away, and I almost cried out with desperation to have him back. With one graceful move, I slipped my hands up into his hair, and brought his mouth back crashing to mine.

We continued like this for what seemed like eternity, but maybe not, barely pausing for air. Then I started to shiver. This time it was from the cold. While we had been kissing, it had begun to snow.

“We need to go inside Hermione.” Harry whispered, his eyes glowing with desire.

“Alright,” I said, but went back to kissing him.

He kissed back for awhile, before pulling back, “Come on, Ron is probably worried sick. He began to stand, and offered his hand out to help me up.

We slowly trudged our way back up to the castle, quietly slipping pass the wide double doors that had been open till now. We were halfway to the common room when Harry paused.

“What is it Harry?” I asked turning around to face him. We had been holding hands the whole time, and now we were an arm lengths apart.

“Nothing, ‘Mione, I just wanted to hug you one last time.” And without hesitation, he pulled me against his chest, our hearts thudding to the same rhythm. My arms wrapped around his waist, and his around mine. I felt him tuck something into my pocket, but did not care what.

“There you two are!” Ron’s voice echoed down the hallway, we jumped apart, like we were on fire.

“What happened Harry? You just took off, and I haven’t seen you two for two hours now. I was about to go get Dumbledore!” he said running up to us.

“Be quiet Ron, do you want to get us caught?” I hissed at him.

“No,” He hissed right back, and continued his way toward the portrait.

I followed, waiting for Harry to come, and he did, and as he passed me his hand slipped into mine, and I quickened my pace to meet his.

By the time we reached Ron, he was at the portrait waiting for us to come in. He stared suspiciously at our interlocked hands but said nothing.

The common room had been decorated for Christmas, with a small evergreen in the corner with millions of little ornaments on it, and brilliantly wrapped gifts below it. Wreaths of holly were spread around the room, and other holiday decorations were there. A small, roaring fire was in the hearth. On the mantle were red stockings stuffed to the brim with candy and small presents, the trim on the top had every students name that stayed for the holidays in gold glittering letters. The grandfather clock in the corner struck midnight.

“I’m going to bed, now that you two are safe. I’m exhausted!” Ron said, slowly stepping his way up to the boys dormitory. Harry grinned, “I’ll be there in a minute” he called back.

The he turned to face me, his face angled down to look me in the eye. He swiftly brought his lips down on mine and resurfaced just as fast. “Merry Christmas Hermione. I love you.

I was shocked, but not shocked enough to not reply, “I love you, too”, he grinned again he ran his way up the stairs.

I brought my fingers up to my lips and traced them, ‘He love me, he really does!” , a hysterical grin played its way across my face. I began to climb the stairs, a slight bounce in my step.

When I got to my dorm, none of the girls were awake. For this I was glad, they would have asked to many questions. I went to my trunk and pulled out some pajamas and took of my wet clothes. I began to shiver, but paid no mind to it, I was to ecstatic with joy. It was when I was comfy in my pajamas that I noticed the silver chain falling out of my skirt pocket.

I lifted the chain out and saw a silver, heart shaped locket dangling in my hands. I opened the locket and engraved on the left side was the word ‘Mine’, and on the left was a picture of me kissing his cheek, from Christmas last year. It was muggle picture, forever frozen.
I smiled, and collapsed on my bed, tired from the events of the evening, and feel asleep, the locket tightly fisted in my right hand.

As sleep overcame me, I peeked out through my bed shades, and out the window tosee the stars. ‘Twinkle, twinkle, little star’ Was the only thought that crossed through my mind, and I feel asleep with a smile on my face.

And if you looked closely enough you might see a red string tied to her finger, that traveled to the common room and up the boy’s stairs, into the seventh year boy’s dorm, where it was tied to a sleeping raven haired boy.

Down by the lake, where the fated meeting started, a figure rose from the murky depths. It was a woman, blonde curly hair surrounded her face, and she was dressed in a white roman goddess dress, not one drop of water on her. She curved her pale lips into a smile, her shiny whit teeth showing. She clapped her hands twice, and smiled wider.

“Blessed be, Hermione Granger, blessed be.”

It has been 6 months since that fateful day. I am now a famous writer in both the muggle and wizarding world. Harry is a in auror training, apparently killing Voldemort gives you automatic acceptance, grades or no grades.

After that night, I went to Hogwarts library and found out what was haunting me. Or, what I hope was following me. Apparently, as the Hogwart’s legend goes, an old goddess from ancient times lives in the lake. She is like cupid. She picks to people, make them fall in love, and they are happily ever after. It could take one hour or seven years, but it happens. I think she has been watching Harry and I since 4th year, ever since the second task, but I could be wrong. Who knows?
