Chapter 1: Their Trip To Gringotts

A/N: This is for MissMuggle’s Writing Exercise Challenge. Please note, I tried to keep the characters as much in character as possible with this situation.

Here was the writing exercise I got: Have three bowls of scraps of paper. The papers in one bowl have different settings written on them, the second bowl has short back stories of characters, and the third has random exciting secrets. Draw one setting, two characters, and one secret. Then let everything conflict. Don’t reveal the secret until the end. Put the secret in the author’s note for clarification, just in case it is needed.

“So, wait a minute.” Hermione stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, staring hard at the piece of parchment in her hand. “Rose needs Dangerous Beast and Where To Find Them? She is only a second year... we didn’t need that until our fourth.”

“Hogwarts has changed, Hermione.” Luna explained to her friend as she stared around Diagon Alley with a dreamy look in her eye. “I would say we could go in the back alley and discuss things, but I am afraid the trimage elves might cause us problems.”

Hermione shook her head with a slight smile. She knew that there were no such thing as trimage elves, but knew better than to try to convince Luna of that. She lowered the parchment, knowing that her blonde friend wasn’t listening anyway, and put it back into the small blue purse she was carrying.

“No, lets just continue on to Gringotts. We will have plenty of privacy in my vault.” Hermione explained and without waiting for an answer, started back down the sidewalk, able to see the large bank in the distance. She heard Luna’s uneven footsteps follow.

“Hermione,” Luna started, her voice still sounding as if her mind was somewhere else. Though Hermione had a good idea as to where her mind was. “Didn’t Ron find it odd that you were coming to Diagon Alley with just me today? Was he not upset that we didn’t invite Ginny or any of the kids?”

“No.” Hermione lied. Ron had been very suspicious as to why Hermione insisted on it just being her and Luna on a shopping trip for the children’s school supplies. He had even offered to come with them and got very upset when Hermione refused that, too. She tried to convince them that she rarely got to see Luna and this was a good time to catch up, but he didn’t buy that. She was very surprised when he didn’t even try to start another argument about it before he left for work that morning. “He doesn’t notice things like that.”

She didn’t bother asking Luna what her husband thought about her coming on a shopping trip with just Hermione. She knew that Luna’s husband trusted his wife. Too bad about what Luna was doing to him.

“Did you hear me?” Luna’s hand landed on Hermione’s shoulder. Hermione glanced over at her and noticed that her friend had caught up to her and was walking along side her now. It was right then that Hermione noticed how many looks they were getting. She was used to people staring at Luna for her wacky style of dress, today being no different. Luna had chosen to leave the house in a bright pink and green blouse with bright blue bellbottoms. She said it would ward off legsin fairies. Though, it hadn’t bothered Hermione when people stared before, but it bothered her at that very moment. She shrugged Luna’s hand off her shoulder before replying, picking up her speed a bit.

“I am sorry.” She shook her head. “I didn’t. I must have been lost in my own world.”

“That happens to me a lot.” Luna said and Hermione waited for Luna to repeat what she had said. After a few moments Hermione assumed it must not have been very important and let it go.

“Here we are.” Hermione smiled as they climbed the stairs to the bank.

As Hermione walked into the lobby she took in a deep breath, letting her eyes close for a moment. She loved this part of visiting Gringotts. It never changed. The smell of polish and freshness flew up her nose and she could practically feel the sunlight on her skin through the glass ceiling. This was much different for Hermione than being outside. This made Hermione feel grown up, though she was now thirty years old. For this experience took Hermione back to her first time here, when she was eleven years old, and she was opening an account that would be her very own. Because in that moment, Hermione was that little girl again, excited and subconsciously remembering everything about the experience. She opened her eyes, looking around the bright lobby at each goblin at his desk, working away.

“Hermione.” Luna snapped Hermione out of her daydream yet again. “I think he can help us.”

“Of course.” Hermione smiled and nodded as they began to walk up to one of the goblins that was looking at them very impatient.

Soon enough Hermione and Luna was on the winding rails headed toward Hermione’s vault. This experience was very different from the lobby. Hermione remember when she first rode it when she was eleven. It had gone so fast and scared her so bad she threw up on the goblin that was taking her to the vault. She shook her head, trying not to think about that.

It only took about five minutes to reach Hermione’s vault and surprisingly Luna was very quite on the trip. Hermione was rather thankful for this.

When they reached her vault, the goblin assured them that he would be right there when they got back. Though rudely added for them not to take too long.

Hermione turned to say something to him, but Luna grabbed her wrist, pulling her toward the fault.

“We have more important matters, Hermione. No time to argue with little people.” Luna called to her as she pushed Hermione toward the vault. Hermione knew she was right and nodded, taking the eye out of her purse and unlocking the vault. With one more hateful look at the smart mouth goblin Hermione entered the vault, Luna following close behind.

Hermione watched as Luna shut the vault, feeling as it was taking her forever. Hermione knew it was probably because she was so anxious, but nonetheless, she needed Luna to hurry. She had to do this.

When Hermione heard the vault click shut, she knew it was her time to pounce. She took three large steps toward Luna, grabbing her wrist and spinning her around, slamming her against the vault door. She took her other wrist and pinned it against the door as well, holding Luna’s body against her own. She heard Luna let out a small gasp in surprise. She smiled down at her beautiful friend before capturing Luna’s mouth for her own. The kiss grew feverish and full of need. It had been three months before she and Luna had gotten any alone time and it was killing her. She let go of Luna’s wrist as her hands flew up to the bottons on her blouse.

“Hermione,” she heard Luna moan as Hermione bit down on her neck, pushing her blouse off. The sound of Luna’s voice sent Hermione’s mind soaring.

How did this happen?

“Hermione, would you please just do it!” Ron yelled at Hermione.

“I have a case to go over, Ronald! I don’t have time to do this.” Hermione yelled back, thankful that the kids were at school. She hated when they heard Ron and her argue.

“I told Rolf you would. He doesn’t want to leave her there alone when we go out.” Hermione sighed, knowing how much Rolf loved Luna. That sounded much like him.

“Fine.” She sighed, knowing she wasn’t winning this. “I will just do this after.”

“Thanks, hun.” Ron leaned down and kissed her cheek. She sighed, leaning back and hitting her head against the headboard of the bed. “Luna will be expecting you in an hour and a half. Have fun.” With that he was gone with a pop. Before Hermione could object.

That night went fast. Luna and Hermione had drank way more than they should have and ended up reminiscing about their Hogwarts days. Luna finally passed out, her head on Hermione’s shoulder. As Hermione looked at Luna, her blonde hair stayed out over her face, her mouth slightly open, she had to smile. She looked very peaceful.

Hermione never expected what happened next. Hermione had just been telling Luna how in her third year she had doubts about her sexuality. How she thought she had a crush on Lavender Brown and how she would spend hours just watching her. With the time turner she had plenty of time. She had went on to say she had guessed it was just a passing phase considering she fell head over hells for Ron only a couple of years later.

Luna had confessed that she was attracted to both men and women and she wasn’t ashamed of it. She found it perfectly normal. Though, at that time, Hermione had been very weirder out by the confession, right now as she stared at Luna, she felt her own feelings stir back up. She wasn’t for sure if it was too much of the alcohol or what was going on, but she found herself tilting Luna’s head toward her, brushing her wavy hair out of her face, and bringing her own head down. Just before Hermione’s lips touched Luna’s she saw Luna’s eyes open. It was to Hermione’s complete surprise when Luna kissed her back.

Hermione flew off the couch.

“I am sorry... I have to go.” Hermione shook her head and with a loud crack she was gone, appearing back in her house.

She went straight to bed, blaming the whole thing on the alcohol. But in the passing days she found herself wanting to do it again.

“Hermione,” she heard Luna again, pushing her back again. “If we take too long he is going to come in looking for us. I know how hard that would be for you. So lets just get your gold and go to mine.”

Hermione nodded, collecting what she needed as Luna put her blouse back on and fixed her hair. The two friends existed the vault and were sent soaring to the next vault, Hermione anxious to get there.

A/N: So the secret was “Hidden Affair.” This was my first slash and WAY out of my comfort zone. I am sorry if it offends anyone, but it was for a challenge. I did, however, really like this exercise and plan to use it again.
