The sunlight streamed in hitting the empty pillow beside him. Oh how he wanted someone to be there. Someone to wake up beside him, to kiss him awake. To have her small silky hands push his hair away from his face and kiss him deeply in the early hours of a morning like this.

Chapter 1: Morning

DISCLAIMER: I own nothing you recognize.

A/N: Okie dokie! This starts out my series of one-shots about Harry and Ginny's life together, which I'm calling "Their Legacy". I really hope you enjoy this first installment!

Installment I

Her vivid red hair flashed across his mind. He could smell her flowery scent as if he was holding her right there in his arms. She was the woman of his dreams – literally. He could hear her soft voice in his ear, the warmth of her breath on his face. And yet, he was alone. He was the only one in his little flat, and yet, he could feel her presence there. It was all around him. He slowly opened his eyes, feeling the sun’s morning rays upon his face. He rolled over to face the other side of his soft queen-sized bed. But there was no one there. The sunlight streamed in hitting the empty pillow beside him. Oh how he wanted someone to be there. Someone to wake up beside him, to kiss him awake. To have her small silky hands push his hair away from his face and kiss him deeply in the early hours of a morning like this. He wanted to whisper those three little words in her ear, to see her smile, to see his love returned in her warm chocolate brown eyes.

He wanted to be able to count the freckles on her pale face as she slept and trace her face when she didn’t know it. He wanted to feel her fire, her passion. He wanted to feel her soft strawberry lips to caress his with love. He wanted to kiss the tip of her nose, her eyelids, and her cheeks before the rest of the world was awake. He could see her smile and hear her laugh, and yet she wasn’t there. He wanted her to be there with him at that very moment, and yet, she wasn’t. She was miles away in the countryside while he was currently in London dreaming of her. Did she know just how much he loved her? Did she love him? Did she dream of him each and every night?

He would never forget their first kiss after the Quidditch final sixth year. She had such a fierce look in her eyes; he couldn’t have done anything but give in. Those weeks they were together were some of the happiest in his entire life. Those weeks were indescribable. They would wander around the halls talking about nothing in particular, but about anything that came to their minds. He would never forget the way the sunlight danced across her red hair, making it look like it was aflame, as they lay side by side. He could hear her laugh as they made shapes out of the passing clouds. They would usually argue over what the cloud was shaped like, but ended up with a sweet yet passionate kiss. He couldn’t deny that he was falling hard for her. There was no question in his mind. But after the death of Dumbledore, he knew what he had to do. It killed him to do it, but he was falling hard for her. He knew Voldemort would stop at nothing to get to Harry. He had used Ginny before, and there was nothing stopping him from doing it again, especially if they continued to be together. So he did the unthinkable, he pushed her out of his life.

Ginny’s birthday present that summer almost broke his resolve. That’s when he knew that he absolutely had to stop. Otherwise he would lose what he cared about most in this world. But everything was different now. Voldemort was gone. He had defeated the most evil dark wizard of all time five years ago. There was no threat anymore. Two years after the final battle, Ginny Weasley said yes to a casual dinner date. Harry felt his heart pounding hard in his chest as he worked up the courage to ask her. He was so afraid that she would say no. He was so afraid that she would’ve moved on. They had been casual friends for a while, but to take it up a step was harder than it seemed, seeing as he had broken up with her once. But she had said yes. It was a rather awkward first date. But then in a jumble of nerves, Harry accidentally bumped into a passing waiter and caused the man to spill the drinks he was carrying all over the couple in the booth. Ginny had burst out laughing uncontrollably. Harry was mortified, but then quickly got over it and laughed along with her. After that everything was perfect. It even led to a second date. And a third. And so on.

It wasn’t until a year later that he realized that he had fallen for the red headed beauty. He had fallen hard. He loved the way she scrunched her nose when she was angry, the way she bit her nails when she was nervous, the way she whispered his name. And now, two years later that he realized that he had found his soul mate. He couldn’t live without her. She completed him. He never even knew he was missing a piece of himself until Ginny walked into his life. Sure, their relationship wasn’t perfect. They fought, sure. But they always were able to work things out. They were always able to find common ground. Harry knew that they would grow old together. He knew that she was the one.

A/N: This was just something I came up with while listening to the song “Disappear” by the Gabe Dixon Band. It’s pretty much an amazing song. Anyways, I still haven’t given up on Love Story. I moved back from college in May and haven’t been able to find my notebook where I had the entire second chapter ready to type up and revise. So yeah. It’s coming, I’ve just got to find it….fail. But anyways, I just had the inspiration for a little one shot series. This is just the first! I hope you liked it! Thanks for reading!
