Chapter 14: Making a date

Chapter Fourteen: Making a Date

As the rays from the sun beamed into the cave Hermione grumbled and rolled over, covering her head, trying to get back to the marvelous dream she had been having. She heard a low chuckle from behind her and knew then that she wasn’t going to be going back to sleep.

“Go away.” She called, sleepily, not opening her eyes just yet.

“Can’t.” Aiden replied and she heard him walking toward her. “We need to get back to the castle. Get up.”

“No! Go away!” Hermione growled again and it annoyed her even more when he laughed. She didn’t hear him say anything else just yet, but felt pressure on either side of her. She rolled over, opening her eyes. She almost screamed when she saw Aiden propped up above her, looking rather amused. She sighed a bit, knowing he wasn’t going to let her sleep any longer.

“Get up or I am going to stare at you until you do.” He threatened and Hermione shrugged.

“Fine. You do that.” Hermione yawned and turned back over on her side, closing her eyes again. She could feel his eyes on her and the weight of his hands, but tried to forget about it. After about five minutes she heard a small hum that grew louder and louder. She recognized the tune as the annoying song of Henry the 8th I am. She sighed, knowing she wasn’t going back to sleep that morning. “Fine! You win! We will be late for classes anyway…”

“That a girl.” Aiden replied, sounding a bit proud of himself as he got off her and waited for her to get up. “You have clothes over there, get changed quick. Sorry about no shower, but if you were up earlier we might have gotten back in time.”

“Shut up…” Hermione said under her breath as she grabbed her clothes and headed back deeper into the cave.

When Hermione finally emerged fully dress she found Aiden sitting at the ledge of the cave, looking off the edge. She slowly walked over and sat down beside him.

“You are thinking about Britni, aren’t you?” She questioned and he turned his head to look at her.

“What? Now you can read minds too?” He replied with a small laugh.

“No… I have just gotten used to that look.” Hermione’s voice was soft, but she wasn’t for sure why. “My plan will work, Aiden. The potion will be ready tomorrow and all will be well. I promise.”

“Don’t promise the impossible, Hermione.” Aiden’s voice got serious as he looked back down.

“Why not? The impossible has been done before. Hell, Harry Potter saved the school for six straight years and he is just a kid.” Hermione explained. “Impossible can be done.”

“That makes no sense, Hermione.” Aiden shook his head and stood up. “Come on. We are already late.”

Hermione didn’t argue with him, but got up and went back. She didn’t think about it until classes were over and she was far away from Aiden. She had avoided Draco all day, a lot of help from Aiden she was sure of it.

After classes were finished Hermione told Aiden she was going to the library to work on something. She tried her best not to think about it in her mind, just to throw Aiden off. She was beginning to get how he worked now.

This was what she wrote on the top of a piece of parchment. She then began to explain the situation and all she had put into the potion. She was sure that she would need it in the future, even if it was simply for story telling purposes. After she finished writing what she had done to the potion and rolled up the parchment and stuck it in her bag. She then got up and left the library. She had to find a way for Britni not to see Aiden as such a jerk.

When she saw Britni she was sitting alone in the Great Hall. She looked as if she was doing homework and was struggling with it. Hermione smiled at the opportunity and walked over to her.

“Need help?” She offered, sitting down in front of her. Britni looked up and rolled her eyes.

“What are you doing here?” She questioned disgusted.

“I saw you were struggling with your work and thought maybe I could help.” Hermione gave her best friendly smile.

“Help from a Slytherin?” Britni replied.

“Yes… I haven’t always been a Slytherin you know… I was a Gryffindor. I bet you would have trusted me then.” Hermione accused.

“Wh…” Britni was speechless. “Where is your other half?” When Hermione looked as if she didn’t know what the girl was talking about, she added, “Lawless.”

“Oh… he is um…” Hermione smiled a bit. “Volunteering at St. Mungos. The children’s ward.” Hermione lied, hoping the girl bought it.

“Lawless? Around kids? Are you joking?” She laughed a bit.

“He has a good heart. Don’t tell the other Slytherins… they already make fun of him for writing to his little sister every week and having a picture of his dog Dindy on his bedside table.” Hermione made up as she went along. She saw Britni’s face soften a bit and she praised herself in her head.

“He writes his sister?” She asked, but Hermione knew that it wasn’t meant to be answered. “Does he tell her what a jerk he is?” Hermione knew she was saying this to remind herself that he was a jerk.

“How can he not be? Think about it… a nice guy Slytherin? He would be totally disowned if he didn’t act the way he did…” Hermione then sighed, knowing what she was going to say next would be a big leap and maybe make Aiden want to kill her. “He really likes you though. I guess that is why he picks at you the most.”

Things were quite for a long while. Hermione examined her facial expressions for a little while and could tell she was thinking about what Hermione had just told her.

“This is a joke, isn’t it? Is this how you Slytherin’s get you kicks?” She nearly yelled at Hermione, slamming the book she had been working out of.

“Britni, please… I am not trying to trick you or anything. I’m trying to help a friend.” After Britni not replying to that, Hermione sighed. “Listen, come to the three broomsticks tomorrow night at seven. Third booth from the right when you first walk in. Talk to him. If you still think he is a jerk then you can completely forget him and pound the hell out of me if you would like.”

She didn’t reply. All Britni did was stand up, sling her bag over her shoulder, and walk out of the Great Hall. Hermione sighed, feeling pretty confident about what she had just done. She got up and went to the Slytherin common room where she knew she would find Aiden doing his potions homework.

“Don’t kill me.” Hermione pleaded as she sat down on the couch beside him. Aiden laughed a bit before turning to her.

“You talked to her!” He roared at her and Hermione knew he read her mind.

“Could you not do that and let me tell you?” Hermione questioned, but it was too late.

“Tomorrow at the Three Broomsticks?! Hermione, what if I have plans? What if the potion doesn’t work? I could kill her!” The last part was a hiss under his breath that he made sure only Hermione heard.

“It will work, Aiden… please. I go along with your things, go along with mine.” Hermione tried to reason.

“Fine… only because its you. I will try your potion and go to the Three Broomsticks… she probably won’t even show anyway…” Aiden trailed off.

“She will… she is way too curious not to.” Hermione smiled to herself, very satisfied.

“Hermione…” She heard a voice approach them and she looked up to see Draco standing there. She shook her head at Aiden when he moved to get up and say something to Draco. “Can we talk?”

“No… we can’t, Draco.” Hermione replied getting up and started toward the girls’ dorm.

“Please!” Draco pushed on as he blocked her way. “I didn’t mean to scare you off… I just… I don’t know. It felt right… I love you, Hermione.”

The words hit her hard and all she could do was stare at him. She shook her head and walked past him up to the girls’ dorm.

“He loves me? He barley knows me… this is not part of the plan…” Hermione muttered to herself. The mission wasn’t going at all as planned. She hadn’t found out anything. And to top it off, Draco Malfoy was in love with her. Talk about your surreal life.

She pushed her thoughts about Draco out of her mind and let thoughts of her mission fill them. It took her awhile to form a plan, but she finally did. She remembered back to when she went to visit Fred and George and the story Fred had told her. She had to go talk to George. She nodded to herself, laying down, her plan all set for the day ahead.

She got up bright and early and rushed to get a shower and get dressed. If she was going to make her escape she had to do it during breakfast.

She found Aiden in the common room, expecting him to be there since he didn’t eat. She hurried over to him and shoved the potion at him.

“Aiden Lawless you better drink that before tonight! And you better show up!” Hermione demanded, trying to rush the conversation she knew lay ahead.

“This is dangerous.” Aiden informed her, again reading her mind.

“I hate that, you know?” Hermione replied. “And I am well aware. But I have to do it for my mission, Aiden. I will be fine.”

“What do you think I am training you for?” Aiden hissed.

“That will help me when the final day comes, but I need info about who is on Voldemort’s side and who isn’t.” Hermione let out a deep breath, aggravated. “I will be fine. I can take care of myself. Don’t you dare think about following me!”

“Sometimes I really do think you can read minds too.” Aiden didn’t laugh as he said it this time.

“I just know you really well… please don’t worry. George won’t hurt me.” Hermione smiled and then without saying bye, hurried out of the door.

A/N: I know, this is a bit short. It was originally extra long, but I had enough to make a complete other chapter, so I did. You will see it real soon. I also have this story about finished. I am on chapter 19 now.
