Chapter 12: Fred the stalker?

A/N: Hello everyone. I hope you enjoyed my first chapter of The Mystery of Aiden. Here is chapter twelve of this one. Please enjoy.

Chapter Twelve: Fred the stalker?

“Um… hey…” the familiar voice said to Hermione. She began to fumble around, trying to get up. “Here…” he said and then she felt him warm hand on her arm, helping her up. She gasped and jumped a little, knocking herself back on the floor. She was beginning to hate this blind thing.

“What are you doing here?” She questioned as she finally got to her feet. She was sure he was still there. She could hear him breathing. It was really kind of weird. It wasn’t even, it was short and fast, like he had been running.

“I’m a student here, remember?… can you see?” He questioned and Hermione then knew she must have looked helpless.

“No,” she simply replied.

“Why can’t you?” He asked, taking a hold of her arms. She took a deep breath in, taking in his cologne.

“None of your business!” She snapped, jerking away. She heard a change in his breathing, which meant he was either shocked or mad. Knowing her luck, he was most likely both.

“I just asked a question… I’ll leave you to find your own way, Miss Slytherin.” He snapped back at her. She then heard angry footsteps go down the hall away from her.

Aiden, I am going to hurt you! She thought angrily as she began to feel around, trying to figure out where she was now.

About twenty minutes later she finally made it to the common room. Pansy had come along and decided to help her. Hermione still didn’t understand how she could be so mean to her and take both of her guys and Pansy still fawn over her. She didn’t really care at that time, though. She needed someone’s help on getting ready.

“All right, there should be a sky blue dress in there, Pansy.” She explained, sitting on her bed while Pansy went through her trunk.

“Explain to me again why you can’t see…” Pansy requested as she threw the dress down beside Hermione. Hermione sighed as she picked up the dress.

“It was a charm went wrong. Lupin says it should wear off by tomorrow.” Hermione had made up the excuse after Pansy had found her. She made her way to the bathroom without Pansy’s help.

Hermione could hear Pansy right outside the door as she got changed. She heard all her hand movements when she fixed her hair. She heard the changing in her breathing when Hermione wouldn’t sit still, which was partly because she wanted to see if it would affect her sound in any way.

Hermione didn’t like the idea of trusting Pansy to do a good job. She didn’t really have any other choice, though. She really didn’t think Pansy would disobey her though. She had too much power over the Slytherin’s for her to do that.

“Hermione,” she heard Draco’s voice as she walked down the staircase. He didn’t sound surprised, just a little impatient. “Where have you been? I was beginning to think you stood me up. I didn’t take you to be the one to be late, but this is the second time now.”

“She can’t see, Draco.” Pansy chipped in before Hermione could say anything. “She messed up a charm and it made her blind, so you are going to have to be careful tonight. She will be fine tomorrow.”

“I am blind, Pansy, not mute.” Hermione informed. “And I am sorry about being late. Like Parkinson said, I can’t see and it has been difficult.”

“Oh…” She heard Draco respond and by the sound of his voice he felt kind of stupid. “All right, then. Shall we go?” With that question he took Hermione by the hand, giving it a small squeeze.

“Sure,” Hermione smiled a little.

With Draco leading her, Hermione had little trouble with bumping into things. It was kind of nice. She still paid attention to the footsteps and breathing patterns of those around her.

“So, Hermio…” Draco began to ask as they sat down at a table in the restaurant, but Hermione held up a hand to silence him. She heard something oddly familiar. It was a breathing pattern, but Hermione couldn’t place who’s it was. She thought back through the day and then gasped a bit at her realization.

“Is Fred Weasley here?” Hermione questioned.

“What?” Draco sounded a bit shocked and mad.

“Please just look, Draco. Is Fred Weasley anywhere in this place?” She asked again. She heard him let out a sigh and she guessed he was looking around.

“Wow…um… he is actually. He is in the far corner in the dark. Guess he doesn’t want to be seen… he is looking over here…how did you do that?” Draco’s voice went through a verity of emotions. It went through shock, curiosity, anger, and then suspicion.

“I ran into him earlier today and heard his breathing pattern… I heard it again.” Hermione explained, trying to keep her focus on it.

“Was he giving you trouble?” Draco questioned, sounding protective now.

“Kind of… he helped me then yelled at me.” She explained, leaving out the part about her snapping first. She knew it wouldn’t matter to Draco though.

“Stupid blood traitor. Is he like stalking you now?” Draco sounded really angry, but Hermione knew it wasn’t toward her.

“I don’t know…” Hermione answered honestly. “Is he still looking over here?”

“Yeah,” Draco replied after taking a moment to look. “Oh well, let him look. What would you like from the menu?” He questioned and then heard him make a noise that Hermione knew that he knew he had said something wrong. “That was stupid. I am sorry. Would you like me to read you the menu?”

“No,” Hermione laughed a little. “I will have spaghetti with a butterbeer.”

She heard footsteps and guessed Draco had called over a waitress. He then ordered and the footsteps walked away.

“So you will be better tomorrow?” Draco questioned.

“That’s what Lupin says.” Hermione nodded.

After the date Draco led Hermione out of the place. He said that Fred was still sitting there when they left, but Hermione already knew that. She could still hear him. For some reason his breathing pattern had grown stronger.

“Are we headed back to the castle?” Hermione questioned, as she moved in closer to Draco as they walked. It was a cold night.

“I actually had something else planned, but since you can’t see it is sort of useless. But if you will meet me in the Astronomy tower tomorrow night after dinner then I can take you then. But yes, right now we are headed back to the castle.”

“Take me where?” Hermione asked, curiously.

“That, my dear, is a secret.” She could hear the smirk in his voice as he spoke. If she could have saw she would have rolled her eyes.

The rest of the way back to the castle was spent talking and laughing. It almost made Hermione forget about Fred at the restaurant. Almost. She figured that there was nothing she could do about it right then. She was blind.

“I had a nice time tonight, Draco.” Hermione informed him as they stood in the quiet common room.

“Me too.” Draco responded and Hermione heard his breathing quicken.

“Are you nervous? Your breathing got faster…”

“You know, I wish you didn’t do that.” Draco said, laughing a little. Before Hermione could answer, though, his lips were covering hers. She wasn’t as surprised as she would have been if she was able to see though. She could hear it in the way he breathed and shifted his weight he was about to do something like that. She kissed back and pulled away smiling.

“Good night.” With that she made her way up to her dorm. She slipped out of her dressed and changed into P.J.s that she had asked Pansy to leave on the bed. She climbed in to what she hoped was her bed.

It was then that thoughts of Fred started to float through her head. Was he stalking her? Had that been his real assignment by the Order? To watch her? She really didn’t need that. She couldn’t have the order on her back and try to do her mission too. She would just have to talk to Fred tomorrow.

After being blind for a day, it was a pleasant gift for Hermione to be able to open her eyes and see the light fill the room the next morning. She didn’t lay there long and think about it, though. She got up and rushed to get a shower and dressed. She had to go see Aiden. She had a plan for today.

“Thank you for lifting the charm before I woke up.” Hermione said to Aiden as she sat down next to him in potions that morning. The classroom was open to anyone who was looking to raise their grade in that class on Saturdays and Sundays, so Hermione had talked Aiden into taking it.

“You are very welcome… what are you doing? Class hasn’t even begun yet and you are already mixing things?” Aiden questioned and then sighed. “Hermione, it isn’t going to work.”

“It will.” Hermione informed him. “I have done my research. Just do my work for me today and I will have this potion for you in about three days.”

“This is ridiculous.” Aiden informed her.

“Just do it, Aiden. I went along with your assignment, just go along with mine.” He didn’t look happy, but he did it. They were able to go through the whole class without anyone seeing what Hermione was really doing.

At the end of class she poured the contents into a vile and stuck it in the bag.

“If my calculations are right it needs three days to sit. So by Tuesday you should be able to take it.” Before Aiden could argue it Hermione rushed out of the room.

At lunch that day she went to find Fred. Actually she just stood outside the Great Hall. If there was one thing she knew it was that a Weasley boy would never miss a meal. When she finally saw the redhead coming around the corner with Ginny, Harry, and Ron she motioned him over. He looked a little confused and a lot angry, but obeyed. Harry, Ron, and Ginny looked very confused, but went on without him.

“Are you stalking me?” Hermione asked straight out.

“What?” Fred asked, kind of shocked.

“You were at the restaurant last night and I know you were.” Hermione confirmed.

“I thought you were blind.”

“I couldn’t see, I wasn’t deaf… why were you there?” Hermione requested. Fred sighed and looked down.

“I was just making sure you were all right. I heard you were going out with Draco Malfoy that night and I knew you couldn’t see, so I decided I would make sure he didn’t take advantage of that.” Fred explained.

“Oh…” Hermione bit her lip, feeling kind of stupid she had asked. “I am a big girl, Fred. I can take care of myself, you know?”

“I know, Hermione, but you were helpless.” Fred explained. Hermione tried not to laugh. She knew she hadn’t been helpless. For she knew that Aiden had been somewhere watching, too. She might not have heard him, but she knew he probably had the same thought about Draco, too.

“All right… well… good day.” Was all Hermione could think to say. She then turned and walked into the Great Hall, taking a seat next to Draco at the Slytherin table.

After lunch Hermione set out on part 2 of her plan that day. She was going to find Britni and talk to her. The potion did no good if she still hated Aiden’s guts after he took it too.

It wasn’t very hard to find her. She was out by the lake with several of her Ravenclaw friends. Hermione watched them for a little bit, wondering how she was going to get Britni away from them. She finally walked over, giving all the Slytherin attitude she had, and stopped in the middle of them.

“Campbell, Lupin wants a word with you.” She tried to snarl, trying to make sure nobody would want to come with her. The girl looked shocked. She tucked her chestnut hair behind her ear and got up, waiting for Hermione to lead the way.

“Do you know what he wants?” She asked when they got back inside the castle.

“Listen, Britni, Lupin doesn’t want you.” Hermione came clean. “I wanted to talk to you.” The girl was now staring at Hermione weirdly, waiting on her to continue. “You know Aiden Lawless, don’t you?”

“You mean that prick who gets his pleasure by terrorizing me?” She more stated that asked, folding her arms. “What about him?”

“He might not be as bad as you think…” Hermione sighed, knowing she must have sounded like a freak to this girl.

“Of course you would say that. You are just like him…” Britni informed. “Why do you care anyway?”

“Well… I don’t. Nevermind.” She shook her head and ran off. She would just have to go with a different approach. She didn’t know why she hadn’t planned that out better.
