Chapter 13: Chapter 13: The Mood Room

Chapter 13: The Mood Room.

The last few days of the break went by fast for the six friends. Nothing unusual happened, unless you count Sirius breaking his record for the longest time he stayed quiet.

The group spent these days mainly outside as the weather was surprisingly mild for the start of November. They would walk around the grounds talking or sit under one of the large trees joking and laughing together.

At the moment James, Jo, Sirius and Remus were playing Quidditch. Lily really wanted to play but thought better of it, so she and Alice watched the others fly around. Lily was watching Jo closely as she had been doing for several days. She noticed something strange in her friend’s behaviour lately and decided to confront her later that night when they were together.

When Lily, Jo and Alice were alone in Lily’s room after dinner Lily decided to talk to her.

“Jo, do you like Sirius?” she asked.

Jo dropped the brush she had been using and turned to Lily.

“No I do not! Why would you even think that? Me like Black? Never happen,” she stated.

“Like Lily liking James would never happen?” Alice asked. She too had noticed a change in Jo.

“That is different. They were stubborn and in denial about it. It was so obvious they would be together. But me and BLACK?”

“Yes you and Sirius. You are so like James and I. You are in denial about it and he is arrogant over it. You two are made for each other. I’ve seen the way you’ve been acting this week. You keep glancing at him all the time and you bring him into every conversation,” Lily said.

“I seem to remember us giving you this lecture Lily,” Jo retorted.

“Yes you did, and you were right. Just like we are right about this,” Lily said smiling.

“But come on, it’s Black! Hogwarts permanent bachelor. He could never have a serious relationship. He has been with more girls than I can count,” Jo said.

“Well there is the pot calling the kettle black. You have been with as many guys as he has girls. You just don’t want to admit you like him,” laughed Alice.

“He really does like you Jo. He is exactly like James. He may act like an idiot but he isn’t really,” Lily insisted.

Jo fell down on Lily’s bed in defeat. Lily and Alice grinned at each other. “I knew it! Jo likes Sirius! Ha!” Lily thought to herself.

Later that night Lily was standing by herself on the balcony of the Mood Room. The room had turned a dark blue when she had entered. She stood at the railing gazing up at the stars, thinking about her parents and the afternoon she arrived for the wedding.

“What about you Lily? Do you have someone special at your school?”

“No mom, no one yet. I’m still looking,” said Lily laughing.

“Well let’s hope you find him while your mother and I are still around. I have to make sure he is good enough for my Flower,”

This memory brought tears once more to Lily’s eyes. Her parents had never met James. They had never had a chance to get to know him.

She looked up again at the stars twinkling above her. “They are up there,” she thought to herself. “They are watching me right now,”

“I think you would have liked him dad,” she said out loud gazing longingly at the stars above. “You two would have got on well together. You would have loved him too mum, his charming manor and humorous personality. I hope you both would have loved him, I’m sure you would’ve if you ever got the chance to meet him. I think you would have approved of him for your Flower dad. I love him more than anything else. I always have, I was just too proud to admit it. And because of that you never got to meet him, you never got to see the man I love with all my heart,” she cried out, tears rolling down her cheeks.

“Why did this have to happen? Why to you? You were amazing parents and you didn’t deserve to die. I don’t know what I am going to do. I don’t know where my life is going to take me anymore. There have been so many bumps along my life but this one hurt the most. Why did he have to kill you two? You didn’t deserve it. You weren’t involved. You were innocent. I got you into this mess. I got you killed. I go off to learn magic for seven years and when I come back I can’t even save you? This is all my fault. I miss you guys so much. I know I was away at school most of the year but I knew you would be there when I got home. But now I have no family and no home. I have no money. Everything was destroyed, my family, my home, my life. I have nothing now,” she said to the sky, tears streaming down her face.

“You have me,” said a voice. Lily turned to see James standing behind her, tears in his eyes.

“Oh, no James. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just…….It’s just I miss them so much. I don’t want to believe they’re gone. They have always been there for me, the whole way through my life. And I never got to thank them. I never to tell them what amazing parents they were or how much I loved them. I never told them how much I appreciated everything they did for me. Now I will never get the chance,” she sobbed hugging James.

“You can tell them now Lils. You said it yourself, they are in the stars looking down at you. Tell them Lils, they will hear you,” James said.

Lily turned back to face the sky. James was standing behind her and he placed both of his hands around her middle, supporting her.

“Mom, Dad,” she said shakily. “I need to tell you how much you meant to me and still do. You were the best parents a child could ask for. You were kind and caring and loving, I was blessed to have you as my parents. You were everything to me, my whole life. You brought me into this world and I had to watch you leave it, much earlier than you were supposed to. I am so sorry for what happened on Halloween, I didn’t mean for anything to happen. I want to thank you mom and dad for raising me to be a kind and caring person. I will try to not let you down, I want to make you proud of me. I am so grateful for everything you gave or taught me. You taught me to love others, that led me to meeting the most amazing man. Mom, Dad, I would like for you to meet James Potter, my boyfriend,” she said turning to James who smiled encouragingly at her.

“I want you to know I love you both so much. I miss you more than I can say and I will never forget you. But I have to try and move on. You taught me that Dad, that when someone you love leaves you, you have to try and move on, never forget them, but if you hold on too tight you forget to live. So I want to say goodbye to you both. I love you Mom, and you Dad. I will never forget you,” she said looking up at the two brightest stars in the sky. She had done it, she had said goodbye and now she had to move on.

She turned around so she was face to face with James. Both or their eyes were red from crying. Lily smiled sadly at him.

“Thank you James. I needed to do that. I wouldn’t have been able to move on if I didn’t. Thank you for being here with me,”

“I will always be here for you Lils, no matter what happens. I promise I will never lave you,” he said holding her against him.

Lily went onto her tip-toes and kissed James full on the lips. This kiss was different from the others, it was a promise that they would always be together.

“I love you Lils,” he said after at least ten minutes.

“I love you too James,” she replied. She then led him over to the white sofa and sat down on his knee. He conjured a blanket and wrapped it around them. They sat like that for an hour, holding each other, neither of them saying anything. Suddenly after an hour of silence Lily spoke.

“James where do you see yourself in the future? When you leave school hat do you plan on doing?”

James looked at her puzzled as to why she was asking this question and what he should answer. He had thought of his future, yes, but he never seriously considered exactly what he wanted to do with his life. “Where does she get theses questions?”

“I don’t know really. I want to be an Auror, like my parents are,” he answered. “What about you?”

“I want to be an Auror too. Apart from a job, what do you think your life will be like when you leave Hogwarts?” she asked looking at him, her eyes still reed from crying.

“This,” he said simply. “I imagined my life to be exactly like this. Together,”

“What about kids? How many kids do you want?”

“Four, two boys and two girls. Why are you asking?”

Lily shrugged. “Just curious.” She looked at him thoughtfully. “James?”

“Yeah Lil?”

“Do you really see us together when we are older?”

James looked at her completely confused. “Why? Don’t you?”

“I didn’t, until a few days ago. When I first saw the love in your eyes, I knew I wanted to be with you for my whole life. Do you? See us together?”

James nodded.

“Since when?” she asked.

“Since the first day of Hogwarts. I was all excited to be starting school I thought nothing could distract me. Then I saw a flash of red out of the corner of my eye and I looked over to see the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. She had emerald green eyes and long red hair. She had me stunned. That was the moment I knew I wanted to spent my life with you,” he told her.

Lily reached up and kissed him again. He kissed her back and they deepened it, losing themselves in it completely. Neither of them noticed the colour of the walls were changing. They were no longer a dark, sad blue, they were a light rose colour that was slowly darkening as if mirroring the love James and Lily were feeling at that moment.

They continued like this for nearly an hour, just lost in one another, before James spoke.

“Are you nervous about going back to Hogwarts tomorrow?”

“Yes,” she said honestly. She didn’t feel the need to pretend in front of James. “I don’t want to go back,”

“Don’t worry Lils. I’ll be right there with you. You won’t have to do it alone,”

Lily looked once again into his hazel eyes and saw that strong love burning in them again.

“I love you James,”

“I love you too Lil,”

They both reached out and kissed again with overwhelming passion. They sat together on the sofa kissing, until they fell asleep just as the sun began to rise.

They say every day marks a new beginning, and this was theirs.
