Chapter 1: Lonely Day

I can't believe I did it. He's dead. He's gone. The most evil person in the world is vanquished. So I'm free to live my life. I don't have to worry about him anymore. The whole world is cheering for me and lighting fireworks in honour of my vitory. I should be yelling right alonog with them. jumping with joy with them. I should be ecstatic and happier than I have been in my young life.

And yet...I am miserable.

Such a lonely day
And it's mine
The most loneliest day of my life

Why am I so lonely? Everybody in the world is screaming my name with joy. I'm a hero. It's not like everyone I know is dead.

The love my life, Ginny Weasley, still lives, after all. But she is not here to share my victory. No, she hasn't spoken to anybody since Malfoy's Massacre, as it was later dubbed.

It happened more than a year ago, a year before the final battle. The summer before Ginny's fifth year at Hogwarts, Bill and Fleur were married.

The day after the wedding, while Ron, Hermione and I were attending an Order meeting at the OoP Headquarters, Lucius and Draco Malfoy came to the Burrow with at least two dozen Death Eaters. For an hour, the Malfoys and thier Death Eaters fought viciously against the Weasley family. Charlie and Fred died during the fierce fight.

The rest were bound, gagged, and dragged to dungeons under the Malfoy Manor. The Death Eaters tortured them all. After a week, Voldemort came into the picture. He had Mr. and Mrs. Weasley dragged around on stone floors until they died while George, Ginny, Fleur, Percy, and Bill were forced to watch. George had the Crucio curse performed on him so many times that he now resides permanently in ward 49 at St. Mungo's next to the Longbottoms. Poor Bill was taken aside by Greyback and permanently transformed so that he was in wolf/man half-state day and night.

Ron, Hermione, and I arrived, with most the Order, two days after they were captured and tortured. We managed to get all the living Weasleys and the dead ones bodies out, but we lost Shacklebolt. He did manage to kill Lucius Malfoy before he was hit with the killing curse. When Ron laid eyes on his parents’ bodies he went into a rage no one had ever seen before. He killed Draco Malfoy by breaking his neck with his bare hands; he had snapped Malfoy’s wand in half and seemed to have forgotten he could do magic in his fury.

Afterwards no one was the same. Percy became lost in his work and never talked to anyone. He became a head in the Defence department and was known for how he relentlessly tracked down every villian that he got whiff of. Bill had to be locked up in a sanctuary on a little island somewhere in the North Sea. Fleur slowly and silently secluded herself from the world: she quit her job, she didn't talk to anyone, and she moved to a remote house in a forest. Eventually, she disappeared and we never heard of her again. Ron just threw himself harder into our work of finding all the Horcruxes. Ginny took up residence in the Burrow, but refused to see any of us again. She blamed it all on Ron and me. She now lives by herself in the Burrow and talks to the portriats of the long-gone Weasleys. She's just living under a masquerade. None of them are coming back.

Should be banned
It's a day that I can't stand

I can't stand this day of triumph, of victory. The people say their prayers are answered and that they can finally rejoice, but I feel no joy. My friends and family is gone.

Hagrid left to convince the giants not to join Voldemort. He left and didn't come back. We found his moleskin coat in the Alps when we were searching for him, but no more. The coat was practically ripped to shreds.

Tonks was bit by Greyback after a battle, about half a year before the final battle. The wound was infected by a poison. She died in Remus’s arms. Remus than took an Unbreakable Vow he would not rest until Greyback and the other werewolves in league with Lord Voldemort were vanquished. He and Mad-Eye Moody hunted Greyback and the werewolves down.

Moody died fighting them. Remus killed Greyback, but after he had been dealt a mortal wound that no Healer could heal. When Remus died, he haunted the evil werewolves as a ghost. His soul will never rest peacefully until he knows that only reasonable werewolves are left and that those who are like Greyback never exist.

This, in turn, pushed Percy into putting laws into play that would convince werewolves to turn to our cause. He even went out as an ambassador to them. Then nobody saw him again…Werewolf hunts have became quite frequent without him to protect even the good ones.

The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life

Hermione and Ron were lost two weeks before the Final Battle. Ron, Hermione, and I had been fighting Lestrange side-by-side. Then Lestrange hit Hermione with two different spells. We both forgot about battling her and ran to Hermione. Lestrange stopped to watch the drama.

Hermione’s heart started to literally burn. Her eyes clouded over with a familiarity I didn’t quite catch onto at first. Ron sobbed with grief. He tried to tell her that he loved her, but then she started whispering.

“Ron,” she said softly. “Yes?” he sobbed, just as quietly. He leaned over her more, even as her burning chest scorched his face and seared his skin.

“I hate you…” she said, barely audible, with a vicious smile of contempt, and died as her chest burst into flames.

Then it clicked. I realized why I recognized those clouded eyes. Lestrangue, that bitch of a witch, had put my best friend under the Imperius curse and Hermione had had no control of her mind for the last couple seconds of her life. Ron didn’t understand immediately, though.

“HERMIONE!!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!” he screamed at Hermione’s body. He had never told her that he had loved her, nor did she ever say she loved him. They were only seventeen, you understand, they believed they had their whole lives ahead of them for love.

He started shaking her charred and smoldering body. He himself was shaking uncontrollably. I looked over at Lestrange. She was chuckling. I was furious at her for doing this. I started walking over to her with my wand out. I had to take small, controlled steps because I was shaking with rage. Just then, Ron looked up.

“YOU!!!!!! YOU BLOODY BITCH!!!!!! YOU WILL PAY HELL FOR THIS!!!!! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO HER!!!!!!” Ron screamed while running uncontrollably over to Lestrange; his face red and contorted with fury and rage. Lestrange looked up and tried to raise her wand as she saw him coming. He screamed ‘Expelliarmus” before she could even lift her eyes to his.

“CRUCIO!!!!” my best mate screamed with a mad fury. His eyes were bloodshot and he looked deranged. Lestrange writhed on the ground in pain and agony. I had to stop this, I had thought, this is wrong, we’re supposed to be the good guys. I tried to move forward, but I felt frozen in place next to Hermione’s ashen body.

“YOU DESERVE TO DIE!!!!!  I BET YOU KNEW THAT, TOO!!!!!!  YOU BLOODY PIG-HEADED PUREBLOODED GIT!!!!!!!  I LOVED HER!!!!!!!!  AND YOU KILLED HER!!!!!!  AND I LOVED HER!! I-I LOVED her!!!!!  You deserve to rot in Hell for this! Just die, bitch…Die...

...avada kedavra...”

Ron’s yells got quieter and quieter until the killing curse was said just above a whisper. Lestrange’s writhing body lay still. I stared at Ron. He was panting and sobbing and trembling. He collapsed to the ground. I ran over, but not too close. He had scared me a bit. Two Unforgivable Curses…I wasn’t sure what to say.

“I had loved her, Harry. I still do. I-I can’t live,” He looked up at me with tears streaming down his red face, “Not with Mum and Dad gone, and Charlie, and Fred, and George, and Bill, and-and Ginny all closed up…and Hermione…she hated me all that time!!! She hated me and I thought-thought- that maybe she…” he sobbed and screamed “I loved her!!!”

“Ron,” I said softly, “you realize that she was—“

“No, Harry, don’t console me, I can’t do this anymore. She hated me,” he said and apparated. I followed his trail.

I apparated to a dark and gloomy forest. There in a small patch of dim light, about ten feet away, was Ron next to a black, cloaked figure. I saw it reach out a bony hand to Ron. It placed the hand on his shoulder; Ron shuddered, but didn’t resist. It lowered itself towards Ron. It lowered its hood and dread filled me as I realized what was happening.

“NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!” I screamed, running toward Ron, as the dementor administered its kiss on him. Ron sunk to his knees: his eyes blank. I looked at the dementor, but it didn’t advance on me. The dementor just drifted away.

Such a lonely day
Shouldn't exist
It's a day that I'll never miss

Ron had wanted the Kiss. He had asked for it. That’s why he didn’t struggle.

Even with Ron and Hermione gone, I still had Neville, Luna, Seamus, and Dean for support. Dean was killed a week before the Final Battle. Seamus actually died in a terrorist attack on a muggle store. Neville was killed by Nott at the Final Battle. Luna took so many head spells that she lost lots of her memory and thinks she’s a muggle secretary now. I still talk to her now and then, but she’s no longer the Luna Lovegood I knew all those years.

Everybody I knew and loved was dead by the time the Final Battle commenced. I had no one to share the victory with. I was alone. I am alone.

Such a lonely day
And it's mine
The most loneliest day of my life

My parents are dead.
Sirius, my second father, is dead.
Dumbledore, who was like a wise grandfather, is dead. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, the parents that I never had, are gone.
Charlie, the cool guy you always wanted to get to know, but never had enought time to, is dead.
Fred and George, the two biggest pranksters Hogwarts has ever seen, are gone and neither will ever grin mischievously again.
Bill, my best mate’s older brother, is a vicious creature, no longer in control of his own mind.
Percy, the stuck-up older brother, is gone.
Hagrid, my first friend in the world, was lost in the cold mountains with deadly giants. Remus, like a fatherly uncle, is dead, leaving only an agonized spirit behind.
Tonks, a kindly aunt, is gone.
Mad-Eye, a crazy old uncle, is dead.
Seamus and Dean, a couple of fun-loving mates, are dead.
Neville, my forgiving friend, is dead.
Luna, one of the oddest people I’ll ever know, but a friend all the same, is no longer Luna.
Hermione, my sister, is dead.
Ron, my best mate, my brother, is worse than dead.
Ginny, my love, is lost forever in her own past.

I have no one left. Everybody knows my name and loves me and I am the loneliest person in the world.

And if you go
I wanna go with you
And if you die
I wanna die with you

If I could’ve I would’ve followed them. If I could’ve I would've lost myself with them. If I could’ve I would’ve died with them. If I could’ve I would’ve gone with them.

Take your hand
And walk away

They all walked away from me. None of them could do it. None of them could handle it. None of them had the passion and fire that I had, that kept me going. The burning hatred and anger and anguish and loss that drove me on. Now I have no where to channel that sorrow, that loss, that empty hole that has been left in my stomach. There is no hatred or anger to fill it. All I can feel is loss. All I feel is that I am alone in this world.

The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life

Now I stand next to Dumbledore's grave, looking at the spot where Voldemort was killed, only a couple hours before. I feel none of the satisfaction I thought I would. I don't even feel free. He's dead, but so is everyone else. Why did they leave me here, alone? Why didn’t I follow through the veil? Why couldn’t I go with them? Why didn’t I jump off the astronomy tower, too? Why couldn’t I lose myself in my own mind and wanderings? Why did I have to be left alone? Why couldn't I go, too?

Such a lonely day
And it's mine
It's a day that I'm glad I survived

But if I had gone, nobody would be left.
