Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Potter Problems

Chapter 3: Potter Problems

Lily stomped down the corridor towards the library muttering to herself.

“How dare he! Like him? He wishes! Argh! I could kill Potter!” she exclaimed angrily.

She walked quickly into the library and slammed her books on the table. She sat down and took out her potions essay, still muttering about James.

“Ah! I can’t do this,” she shouted earning her a disapproving look from Madam Pince.

She stood up again, stuffed her books into her bag and stalked angrily out of the library. She was walking so fast she was nearly running and only stopped when she reached the portrait of the Fat Lady.

“Butterbeer,” she said through clenched teeth.

“Right you are miss,” said the Fat Lady before swinging open to let Lily in.

Lily stormed across the common room to the staircase leading to the girl’s dormitory. Everyone knew that by the look on her face she was not to be messed with. One poor first year fell over a chair trying to avoid her. She stomped up the stairs and slammed the door of her dormitory behind her. Her two best friends, Alice and Joanne, looked up when she slammed the door.

“It’s Potter again, isn’t it?” asked Joanne, already knowing the answer. Only one person could get under Lily’s skin like this and it was James Potter.

“What happened this time?” asked Alice. Alice was very calm and quiet. The complete opposite of Joanne. Jo was very outspoken and loved to be the centre of attention. Which she always was. She was absolutely gorgeous with her long black hair, deep blue eyes and perfect skin. Boys were falling over themselves to get to her. Alice was also really pretty, but in a different way. She looked really sweet with short blonde hair and chocolate brown eyes.

“Well I was coming back from…Well I was just walking along the corridor towards the library and Potter came up behind me and asked me out,” shouted Lily looking like she was going to burst with rage.

“Really? Potter asking you out? That is so unlike him!” said Jo sarcastically.

“Then,” continued Lily, acting like she didn’t hear Jo. “Then when I told him no he said I was in denial and that I really did like him!”

Alice and Jo looked at each trying not to smile. They knew that Lily really liked James, but that she didn’t want to admit it. Anytime anyone mentions James and Lily in the same sentence Lily goes mental. But they know she only does it because she doesn’t want to admit she has fallen for James, the same way they know James only acts like a complete jerk in front of Lily because he likes her. They know he’s not really like that. Or so Alice says because he lives beside James and says he is a really nice guy, Jo still doesn’t trust him completely because he is friends with Sirius Black, who she completely hates. They have tried everything to get her to confess but anytime they mention him she goes off in a rant about how terrible he is.

“What did you do to him Lily? Can he still walk?” asked Alice.

“Well he went on about how great he is and how he thinks I like him so I hexed him,” murmurred Lily not looking at her friends.

“Lily! Lily Evans broke the rules? She used magic in the halls? To hex another student off all things? I never thought I’d see the day!” laughed Jo.

“Shut up Jo,” said Alice before turning to Lily who was now throwing books and ink bottles at the walls.

“Lils honey, calm down. What’s wrong? Did James do anything else? Did something happen before you met James?” asked Alice trying to reason with Lily, but also trying to avoid the flying ink bottles and books.

Lily rounded on Alice looking ready to kill and cry at the same time.

“Why did you call him James? Do you like him now? Do you think he is not an arrogant bullying jerk anymore? He is Potter and always will be Potter. Nothing else,” yelled Lily at Alice

“Lily calm down. He is not such a bad guy. You should give him a chance. He isn’t the same guy he was two years ago. He as grown up and he really likes you. And I know you like him too,” said Jo.

This time Lily blew.

Alice and Jo looked stunned. They had seen Lily give out about James on loads of other occasions, but never like this. He couldn’t have done anything that bad. Something else must have happened.

“Lily?” Alice tried again in a calm voice. “Did something else happen to you?”

Lily looked at her feet but didn’t answer.

“Come on Lily, you can tell us. What’s wrong?” asked Jo

They both looked at Lily to see her eyes filled with tears. Alice rushed over to her and gave her a hug. Lily looked at her two friends, and the tears that had been threatening to come all evening finally burst out.

“Oh Lils, it’s ok. Please tell us what happened? Why are you crying?” asked Alice close to tears herself. Alice is very sensitive and hated to see her friend cry.

“I…I was walking back from Slughorn’s office and I saw two people stand in a corner. They seemed to be kissing, so I went over to them to tell them to go back to their common room and it was….it was….Robert,” sobbed Lily.

Robert was Lily’s boyfriend. They’d been going out since the end of last year.

“That evil bas-“ shouted Jo

“Shush,” hissed Alice. “What happened then Lily?”

“I went up to him. He was with Katie Chang. She saw me and stepped away from Robert. She seemed very happy with the fact that I found them. Robert looked around to see why Katie had stepped away and he saw me.”

“Um…..Lily, hi,” said Robert

“What are you doing?” asked Lily looking at Katie who was smiling at her.

“Oh well…um…I was…eh,” rambled Robert looking at his feet

“You’re cheating on me? With her? Why Robert?” asked Lily looking shocked. Robert had always seemed like a really nice guy. Jo and Alice never really liked him, but they wanted her to go out with Potter, what did they know?

“Well…I was hoping to see you earlier to tell you….but I couldn’t find you,” said Robert.

“So you decided you’d let me know you wanted to break up with me by letting me see you kissing Chang in the halls?” shouted Lily

“No…I didn’t want you to find out like this. It’s just…I don’t think we should see each other anymore.”

“WELL THAT’S OBVIOUS,” shouted Lily

“It’s just….I don’t know…..I feel weird around you, like you’d rather be with someone else. Probably Potter,” said Robert

“I think you were the one who wanted to be with someone else while you were around me Patterson,” yelled Lily looking ready to kill

“Lily I’m sorry, it’s just…well-“

“Save it Patterson. I don’t want to hear it,” Lily said quietly before turning around and walking up the corridor, holding in the tears that were threatening to come.

“Oh Lily I am so sorry. He is such a jerk,” cried Alice giving Lily another hug.

“That f*****g evil b*****d,” yelled Jo. “How could he do this to you? And with Chang? What does he see in her? She is a self-centered, over emotional idiot, boyfriend stealing b***h!”

“It’s ok Lils, you’re better off without a jerk like that. I never liked him anyway.

“Me neither. He is an evil git. Oh, just wait ‘til I get him. Maybe I can get James to help?” she said to herself, laughing evilly.

“Don’t worry Lil. There is someone else out there for you, someone better. You just have to find him,” said Alice reassuringly.

“He may be closer than you think Lils. You just have to open your eyes,” commented Jo.

Alice gave Jo a warning look. The last thing they wanted was to get Lily worked up about James again.

“I don’t think so,” said Lily in a quiet voice. “If he dumped me for someone else, why would any other guy be different? I mean I’m not really pretty so why would he want me?

“That’s not true Lils-“ started Alice

“Yes it is. I mean, I’m not like you. I don’t have a boyfriend that loves me like Frank loves you. You’s have been going out for a year. I don’t have that.”

“But that doesn’t mean-“ Jo tried but Lily stopped her

“But I don’t have guys fawning over my ever step like you do Jo. Maybe I should just give up on guys altogether. They just get in the way,” sighed Lily

Alice and Jo looked at each other shocked.

“Why would you do that Lily? Guys love you. You’ve had loads of boyfriends,” said Alice

“Yeah, what about Ja-“ started Jo but Alice stopped her.

“Lily don’t let one jerk ruin your whole life. You’re are the prettiest girl I have every seen-“ said Alice

“Not to mention smart-“ commented Jo

“And funny-“

“And caring-“

“And sweet. The point is any guy would be lucky to have you Lils, so don’t give up. You’ll find someone. I guarantee it!” smiled Alice

Lily looked at her friends and smiled

“Thanks guys. You’s are the best friends a girl could ever have,” said Lily.

Lily looked at her watch and jumped. “Sorry guys, I have to meet Potter for rounds in five minutes. I’ll see you later,” she said before rushing out the door.

When Lily closed the door Jo and Alice looked at each other.

“We have to do something Jo. She can’t give up on guys. What about James?” asked Alice looking worried.

“I have a plan. But we’re going to need some help,” said Jo with a mischievous glint in her eye.
