Chapter Twenty Two

I lazily showered then put my still wet hair into a tangled mass on my head held there with an elastic. I threw on jeans I found on the floor and a baggy t-shirt. I put on my school robes and found Draco sitting on the couch waiting for me. He smiled weakly when he saw me. From the looks of him he didn’t sleep at all last night either. When we got to the Great hall Draco reluctantly left me to sit with his housemates.

“Don’t ask” I mumbled receiving looks from Harry and Ginny. I pushed the food around on my plate, only taking a scarce few bites. The bell tolled and everyone began shuffling toward the grad staircase. Suddenly I felt someone grab my arm and pull me out the big oak doors. I turned to see who my kidnapper was.

“Draco!” I hissed. “What do you think you’re doing?”

He smiled mischievously at me, “We’re not going to class today. We’re going to Hogsmeade. You need some cheering up.”

My fights against him didn’t even faze him as he pulled me behind him.

“We’re head boy and girl! Do you know how much trouble we’ll get into?” I told him glancing back nervously.

“Hermione,” He said stopping and turning to look at me, his face inches from mine. “Stop being such a goody-two-shoes, and trust me for once.” He smirked at me then put a hand on each side of my face, pulling me in for a kiss. I pulled back and looked at him.

“I do need a day off,” I sighed, “But no kissing.” He chuckled and held my hand.

“I don’t know about the second half.” He said winking at me.

“Git,” I said swatting at him.

We walked around Hogsmeade for a while before going into a small café for coffee to warm us up. After the café Draco led us to a hair salon.

“What are you getting at?” I asked him. He pointed me towards a mirror.

“This look won’t work for my plans for later.” He stated. I raised my eyebrows at him. “Trust me remember.”

An hour later my hair was in soft silky ringlets.

“And now clothes.” Draco said leading me to another shop. After an hour and many dresses, Draco the sales witch and I decided on a gold halter dress falling loosely above my knee with matching gold shoes and a new long cloak. Draco got muggle dress pants and shirt then paid for it all without a blink of an eye. We walked out of the shop and Draco looked at a clock.

“Just in time,” He said smiling.

“In time for what?” I asked.

“Dinner,” He said leading us to muggle London. “Come on or we’ll be late.” We walked to a restaurant. “Two for Malfoy,” Draco told the host. Draco grabbed my hand as we were led to a booth in the back corner. I received multiple glares from jealous girls as Draco turned and winked at me before getting into the booth. We ate our dinner with relaxed conversation. I smiled at him as we both finished.

“Thank you Draco, this day has been wonderful. You treated me better than anyone ever has and this was exactly what I needed.” I told him.

He smirked playfully. “The night hasn’t even started yet my dear,” He said.

I looked at him with curiosity. He merely smiled and helped me from my seat. “It’s a surprise” he whispered standing close.

“Okay,” I told him smiling “I trust you.” I added. I felt his lips press against my forehead before he grabbed my hand and led me to the door. “No kisses.” I told him playfully.

He smirked at me, “Just wait until you see where we’re going next.” He said winking. “It’s not too far we can just walk.” He added putting his arm around my waist, our steps falling in tune with each other. I sighed and let my head rest slightly against his shoulder. We came up to a theatre, Draco smiled.

“Right on time,” Draco said pulling two tickets from his pocket.

“What are we seeing?” I asked excited.

“Guys and Dolls,” He said chuckling at my excitement. An usher led us to our seats which turned out to be a few rows from the stage.

“I’ve never been to a theatre before,” I said looking around in awe, “Not to mentions a musical.”

He laughed. “You’re like a five year old.” He told me.

“I’m excited.” I told him.

“As much as father didn’t like London, they always took me to shows.” Draco said as the lights began to dim. As the show stated Draco put his arm around my shoulders making me smile. After the show we walked out onto the street.

“Oh Draco!” I said wrapping my arms around him, pulling him into a tight hug. He laughed then picked me up and spun me around. “That was so wonderful!” I gushed.

“One more place.” He said smiling and leading me a few blocks away. We came up to a night club with a line out the door. He walked up to the doorman and whispered something to him and we were quickly led inside in front of the line. He smiled at me. “Wanna dance?” he asked over the music. I smiled and we made our way to the dance floor. We danced for a couple hours, Draco ignoring any girl that tried to dance with him and me doing the same with the guys. We walked out of the club and Draco led us to a little ice cream shop on the corner.

“Dessert” He said simply. I smiled. We got ice cream then began back to Hogwarts. I yawned trudging up the stairs.

“Almost there.” Draco said as we reached the common room. “Night” he told Sir Luke.

“I’ll just sleep on the couch,” I mumbled.

“Nope. C’mon we’ll just take you up to my room.” He said helping me keep my balance as I took off my shoes. I nodded then slowly went up stairs with him behind me. He handed me a pair of boxers and a t-shirt. I changed then smirked lazily at him.

“What?” he asked stripping down to his boxers.

“You complain I wear your clothes but then when I come in here to sleep you give them to me before I can say anything or go to my room to change.” I told him.

“You just look bloody brilliant.” He told me smiling. I crawled into bed cuddling against my pillow. Draco laid next to me and pulled me close to him. I smiled and cuddled closer to him.

“You’re better than a pillow” I mumbled, burying my face in his neck.

“I would hope so.” He said wrapping his arms tightly around me. I propped myself up on my elbow and looked down at him.

“What?” He asked looking at me.

“Thank you,” I whispered, “The whole night was brilliant. You have no idea how much I needed a break from everything. I guess I didn’t really even know.” I told him.

He smiled at me, “You’re welcome.” He told me. I leaned down and softly kissed him. “Now we need to get some sleep. We still have classes tomorrow.” Draco told me. I nodded and laid back down. “Come here” he whispered, pulling me close to him. I sighed contently and fell asleep listening to the beating of his heart.

The days flew by and soon it was the day before winter holiday. Draco sat on my bed as I packed some things to bring with me to the Weasley’s.

“When are you leaving?” He asked.

“Tomorrow.” I told him rushing about my room. He grabbed my hand and pulled me to him.

“Every New Year’s Eve we have a party at the Malfoy Manor. Will you come? Harry and Ginny can come too. You can stay in guest rooms for a few nights.” He asked. I smiled.

“I have to talk to Mrs. Weasley, Harry and Ginny, but I don’t see why not.” I told him. He smiled and pulled me into a hug.

“Oh, and this is formal. Tell little Weasley if she needs a new dress I’ll buy you both dresses as Christmas present.” He added. I smiled.

“Awe Draco, you’re actually learning to be nice. I’m proud of you.” I teased him. He laughed and gently shoved my shoulder playfully.

“Hey!” I said shoving him back. We continued shoving each other until we ended up on our backs next to each other on the bed.

“How will you deal with Ron?” Draco asked cautiously.

“Ignore him, pretend nothing happened.” I said shrugging.

“Did you give him and Pansy an answer on the God mother thing?” He asked.

“No,” I said shaking my head. “Have you?”

“I told them I would if you would. You know as much as I dislike Pansy, she’s a close friend of the family so she and Ron might be there on New Year’s Eve.” He told me.

I nodded. “I’m slowly getting use to the idea of them together. I should be okay but I might need you to pose as a distraction or to cheer me up.” I told him.

“I think I could manage that.” Draco said pulling me on top of him into a hug. I smiled and looked down at him. I rested my head against the hollow of his collarbone and breathed in, loving getting lost in the scent of is cologne.

“I have no idea how I’m going to sleep when I’m at the Weasley’s. I’ve actually got accustomed to having you to cuddle with.” I told him.

“I have an idea.” He said getting up and grabbing his wand. He went into his room and came back with his pillow and handed it to me. I just sat there looking at him.

“Smell it” He instructed. I cautiously smelled it then smiled involuntary when it smelled like him and his cologne.

“How?” I asked.

“Dad taught me. ‘Malfoy’s should never smell bad’ he would say. It should last for about a month.” He smiled. “And that’s the only way I got any sleep when we weren’t talking, my other pillow still smells like you.”

I smiled. “Thank you. I think I have everything now. What am I missing?”

“Me” Draco teased. I laughed and picked up my pillow.

“I have the next best thing.” I told him, “Or I always could go for Fred or George and cuddle with them.” I said.

Malfoy’s eyes flashed dangerously but he didn’t say anything. He just chewed slightly on his lip. I smiled warmly. “I’m only teasing.” I told him, giving him a hug. “Harry’s more my type.” I said winking at him.

“He’ll be busy with Ginny,” Draco said, “Maybe I’ll stop by for a visit and stay the night with you.”

“Nah. I can manage. I mean, unless you’ll need me that bad so you can sleep.” I teased some more.

“Oh aren’t you bloody hilarious,” Draco stated sarcastically. I smiled and pulled him into another hug.

“Think the Weasleys would mind if I did happen to drop by and spend the night?” Draco asked.

“Probably,” I told him honestly. “But I’ll stay at the Manor for a few nights around New Years.”

“And you’re not leaving my sight that whole time.” He told me.

“Like you let me leave your sight even now,” I giggled. We sat together in a comfortable silence. He laid down on the bed next to me and I lightly played with his hair. His eyes slowly drifted close and his breathing became regular. I looked down at his sleeping form.

“You’ve changed Draco Malfoy.” I whispered, “And thought I do care about you, please be patient. I’m still scared.” I sat there a little bit longer then got up and walked around the room. I took the blanket from the foot of my bed and wrapped it around me as I went out to the balcony. I stood there looking at the night sky when I heard Draco yawn and walk up behind me.

“It’s bloody freezing out here.” He said shivering. I wrapped half of the blanket around him and he held me close to help keep us warm.

“I love clear winter nights.” I told him. He leaned his head on my shoulder. After a few minutes Draco was shivering again.

“Come on, let’s go to bed.” He suggested.

“You go on; I’ll be there in a few minutes.” I told him. He nodded then went to his room. I took a deep breath and looked around. I smiled then deiced I should go to bed; I would have a lot to deal with tomorrow. I walked into Draco’s room and looked at him, passed out asleep on his bed, snoring. As quietly as I could, I crawled into bed next to him. He rolled over and looked at me, barely opening his eyes.

“I’m gonna miss you ‘Mione.” He mumbled pulling me close to him before resting his forehead on my shoulder.

“It’s only a week and a half Draco.” I whispered snuggling against him.

“Come on, get up.” Draco said shaking me slightly.

“Mmrph-up.” I mumbled pushing him away from me, “I’m up.” I repeated, this time coherently. Suddenly I wasn’t in my warm blankets anymore and someone lifted me off the bed. I opened my eyes to see Draco was taking me into the washroom.

“What in bloody hell are you doing?” I asked him.

“I’m putting you in the loo so you don’t fall back asleep. Since when do you not wake up?” he asked.

“Since I didn’t sleep all night.” I stated.

“Why?” He asked setting me down.

“Worried about how things will be at the burrow.” I mumbled, “Leave so I can shower now.” I took a quick shower and dressed in sweats, not bothering to do my hair, I just tied it up out of my face. I walked down to the common room and Draco looked at me. His eyes quickly scanned me from head to toe and he smirked at me.

“Don’t even say anything Malfoy, I know I look horrid and I don’t care.” I told him.

“I was going to say you pull off that look very well.” He mumbled turning back to the Daily Prophet. I levitated al my things to the door. I sighed trying to remember if I forgot anything. I quickly ran into Draco’s room and grabbed his pillow. I walked into the common room and Draco got up when he saw me.

“Time to go.” I told him. He walked over and pulled me into a tight hug. I smiled and relaxed in his arms, welcoming his body against mine. “I’m gonna see you in a little over a week.” I laughed.

“I know.” He said pulling away and kissing my forehead. “Just wanted to say goodbye and have fun. I’ll owl you about the party.”

“When are you going to the manor?” I asked.

“Probably tomorrow, quit stalling and go.” Draco told me laughing.

“I’m not stalling.” I pouted. Draco pulled me into another hug. I smiled and held him close. “Not stalling.” I mumbled.

“Are too.” Draco whispered.

“Well you would be too if you were going to your ex-boyfriend’s house with him and his new pregnant girlfriend.” I whined.

“It’s only a week and a half. And if at any time you want to leave, floo to the manor and stay there with me.” Draco said breaking the hug. I nodded and grabbed my bag and pillow.
