This thread is Harry Potter specific and can be used to recommend or share gifs, stories, or ideas for helping those who may be struggling with adult content in their fanfiction. We hope to encourage one another on the journey through writing and this thread is a place to help one another when it comes to writing adult themes.

Not certain that this is the best place for me to ask this question, but as it relates to my only NSFW Harry Potter story, here goes.

I was banned from this site several years ago. The reason given was that my decision to remove the stories I submitted to the "Tales of the Battle" challenge from that challenge (in order to rewrite and expand them) was "Contrary to the family values of the site". That's water under the bridge, they're now rewritten, re-edited, and back on the site. (Thanks btw).

However, at the time of my ban, there was another discussion going on in the background. It was about my story "Spontaneity". It's my only truly NSFW story, and I believe that my discussions, at that time, with the mods is also part of the reason I was banned (possibly the main reason). I was told that I could not use the word "nipple" in a sexual context, and that "areola" was a banned word (if it still is, I apologise for its use here). Given that "the F word" wasn't banned, I found these rules bizarre. Do they still apply? I've been unable to find any guidance. Is there still a list of banned words? Do I need to have a NSFW story checked out by mods, or is the warning enough?

@Northumbrian has a good point.

What is and isn't allowed on this site? Is there a guideline written down somewhere? If it is, it's not readily accessible as I can't find any link to it.

Also, I think it would be useful to have an explanation of each Warning type - when to use which one. Some are easy - I think we can tell which words are Profanity, but where is the line drawn between mild and strong violence or mild sexual content? What themes are considered sensitive?

I think, individually, people can have a very different opinion on what's mild and what's not so it would be good to have an established set of guidelines that we can all use in the same way and can refer to when in doubt.

I could have sworn that I read some sort of content guidelines at some point post relaunch, but I just spent ten minutes looking and I have not been able to find anything. It's also entirely possible that I am misremembering this. Does anyone else remember this existing?
