This story poses the question: What could change within him if he accepted a little kindness, and was able to harbor it within his own heart to give a little kindness?
The answer? A lot…a lot could change.
There’s fluff, romance, and laughter to be found in this fic, and it’s easily one of our favorites to have read. We love seeing the difference a little goodness can make, it’s one of the most important parts of storytelling.
I have a lot of Hermione/Snape stories to share, so strap in, and be prepared for a wild ride. All fic recs are completed unless otherwise indicated. I'm sorry I only link to FFN -- a lot of these stories are also on ao3 but there are a lot of links so for now they're all going to be FFN. Ordered by update date.
A Light in the Fog by turtlewexler - rated M - post-war fic that features the best Snape/Hermione proposal in the history of SSHG, and a novel form of memory loss for Snape.
An Unexpected Otter by AnotherAldebaran - rated T - where Hermione transforms into an otter at times and befriends Snape over the years. Adorable. A shorter fic.
Time's Hammer by IShouldBeWritingSomethingElse - rated M - where post-war Hermione travels back in time and destroys the timeline for just-out-of-Hogwarts Snape. I think. A shorter story.
At the Headmaster's Discretion by DesertC - rated M - it's smutty, and features 8th year Hermione/Headmaster Snape as a warning for those of you who aren't into that kind of thing, but it explores with the consequences of Obliviation in the most fascinating way.
This Time by Subversa - rated T (I think this rating may be a bit misleading; feels like an M to me) - Snape becomes young again to protect him from a curse on the Dark Mark. 7th year.
The Lilac Tree by lena1987 - rated M - The aftermath of a marriage law, where Hermione is ill and Snape cannot leave her side. Post-war.
World Enough and Time by lena1987 - rated M - Hermione finds herself sending letters to Snape through time the year after the war, and for him it's during the last year of the war.
Pride or What Goeth Before a Fall by Toodleoo - rated M - Hermione thinks Snape is gay, because Hermione is convinced Hermione is always right. Post-war. A shorter story.
The Cat the Witch and the White Picket Fence by Muggleborns - rated M - this is the fluffiest, happiest, cutest post-war story that exists in SSHG shipdom. If the angst of the classics have you down this fic has you. If you just want to wrap a blanket around Snape and tell him everything is going to be alright this is your fic. Novella length.
Another Dream by dragoon811 - rated M - the one where Snape is mute after the Final Battle and Hermione befriends him.
Pet Project by Caeria - rated M - the classic Hermione/Snape story where Hermione takes on Snape as a project to treat him just a little better, and they get together in/after her final year I believe after slowly becoming friends. Started pre-HBP I believe. It's like on all the fic rec lists for a reason.
An Unwritten Future by Aurette - rated M - possibly the best Hermione-travels-back-in-time story. Post-war for Hermione, pre-war for Snape.
Chasing The Sun by Loten - rated M - the other classic Hermione/Snape story where she slowly befriends him over her last Hogwarts years and they get together during the war. It is also on all the fic rec lists.
Fade to Grey by marianne le fey - rated T - a novel time-travel story. Post-war for Hermione.
Yea Though I Walk by Aurette - rated M - post-war Hermione/Snape story with literal demons.
The Occluded Soul by Aurette - rated M - where Snape breaks his soul after HBP and Hermione fixes him. Extended-war AU.
The Traveller by Somigliana - rated M - where Hermione is a professional time-traveller, and befriends pre-second-war Snape. A shorter story.
The Silvering Divide by Somigliana - rated M (no idea why this is rated M; feels like a T) - the one where Snape is like...a mermaid/selkie and Hermione discovers his secret. Post-war.
Second Life by Lariope - rated M (this one's from ao3 because FFN doesn't have it) - the one where Hermione is secretly married to Snape in her sixth year and they have a secret relationship that develops through the war. She is of age in this story, but a warning for those who aren't into this kind of thing. I'm not sure I love it as much anymore but it was a favourite of mine when I was younger.
There are more classics out there, but I'm sure you guys can find those on other fic rec lists, and there are a lot of super smutty fic out there for those who're into that kind of thing. But my recs are mostly novel-length stories with a good amount of plot and character development, so enjoy.
The Ultimate is Saving Severus Snape by MegGonagall
Hermione's Plan: Travel back in time and show Severus Snape that he does have life worth fighting for.
Not Hermione's Plan: Fall in love with him.
2nd place goes to. . . Fate Set Rightby mletrfry
Time-Turner Novel, very well thought out and I love the falling in love and marriage of Severus and Hermione.
Butterfly Effect by Nekolvr11 'The butterfly effect is the concept that small causes can have large effects.'
The removal of one seemingly unimportant Muggleborn has a devastating effect on the war with Riddle.
During the summer following second year Hermione is sent adrift, quite literally, and in her absence the Wizarding World takes a turn for the worst. Hermione returns a hardened fighter ready to rejoin her friends only to find out nothing is like it once was. Putting everything on the line she travels back in time in a last effort to save her friends and everything she holds dear.
Time Turner AU This is a time travel but in a way that you I never seen before. It hasn't quite made it to the SS/HG relationship but one can see the potential.
Also awesome are The Poison Gardenby turtle_wexler Upon finding herself thrown back in time to 1987, Hermione decides to befriend a young Potions Master. He has other ideas. By the same author as A Light in the Fog

The New Manby Beth H Ten years have passed since the War, and Hermione is happy with her great job, her wonderful flat, and even her social life.
