Just a little note….This is not a happy chapter…You have been warned. :)
Hermione was sitting on the couch with a blank look on her face. Ginny was sitting next to her trying to get her attention, “Hermione? Hello; are you ok?”
“What am I going to do Ginny? I can’t be pregnant!”
“I don’t know Hermione; I honestly have no words of advice for this.”
“I have to tell Draco.”
“Yes, I suppose you do.”
“He is going to be so upset; this so wasn’t part of the plan! I can’t have a child….We can’t have a child!”
Hermione jumped off the couch and started pacing the room as a million thoughts began running through her head. What was Draco going to say? Should she have the baby? Was she going to marry Draco? Would they raise the baby together? Was she ready to be a mother? Would she be able to raise this baby alone if Draco didn’t want any part of it? What would her parents say? What would Draco’s parents say? Would he even tell them? What would Harry and Ron say? Would they ever speak to her again? All at once, Hermione realized just how much trouble she was in and she dropped to the floor and started sobbing.
Ginny sat next to Hermione and held her, “It’s ok Hermione, we’ll figure this out. No matter how it goes with Draco, I’ll always be here for you.”
“This isn’t going to end well Ginny; I can feel it.” Hermione said between sobs.
Ginny used her sleeve to wipe away some of Hermione’s tears, “I think the first thing you need to do is tell Draco.”
Hermione took a deep breath and tried to calm herself a bit, “What if I lose him?”
Ginny sighed and hugged Hermione tighter, “I was afraid of this; you love him don’t you?”
Hermione burst into tears again, “I’ve made a real mess of things haven’t I? I knew that all of this was a horrible idea, and everything you said to me, warning me. I should have listened! Now I’m in love with a man who will probably never feel the same way and I’m pregnant.”
“Yes, I will admit that you’ve put yourself in quite a predicament but like I said, no matter what happens with Draco and this baby, you will never be alone.”
“Ron and Harry will never forgive me; they will hate me forever!”
“No they won’t Hermione. After everything that the three of you have been through together, they will never hate you. Yes, they will probably be upset with you for a while, but they will forgive you.”
“Probably be upset with me for a while? That is the understatement of the century Ginny.”
“It’ll all work out Hermione, I promise.”
Just as she said that, the door to the common room swung open and Draco and Blaise walked in. They saw the girls sitting on floor and Draco saw that Hermione was crying, “What’s wrong Hermione?”
Ginny took Hermione’s hand and they stood up, “She’s fine, but she needs to talk to you.”
Hermione looked panicked and Ginny squeezed her hand for reassurance. She let go of Hermione’s hand and began pushing Blaise towards the door, “Come on Zabini; this isn’t for our ears.”
Blaise grinned at Draco as he was being pushed, “I love them feisty red heads.”
Draco smiled and Ginny just rolled her eyes. When their friends were gone, Draco took Hermione’s hand and led her to the couch and they sat down.
“Ginny said you were ok, but you don’t look ok; what’s wrong?”
Hermione tried to think of the best way to tell him, but all she could come up with was, “I’m pregnant.”
All the color drained from Draco’s face and he dropped her hand, “Please tell me you’re joking.”
Hermione started crying again and Draco jumped up, “Oh my God.”
Hermione got up and tried to take his hands, but he backed away from her, “I don’t fucking believe this! How could I let this happen?”
“It’s ok Draco. We will—“
“No, it’s not ok Hermione! This is so far from ok it’s not even in the same damn time zone!”
“We will figure something out Draco.”
“What is there to figure out Hermione? When my father finds out this he’s going to kill me, you, and this bloody child! I can’t believe this happened; I knew that I should have just stayed away from you. Pansy was right, she was actually right for once in her life. Getting involved with you was the worst mistake of my life.”
Those words ripped right through Hermione’s heart and she felt like someone had stabbed her, “How can you say that Draco?”
“Because it’s true! My life is completely fucked and completely over all because I had a bloody hard on for the Gryffindor fucking princess!”
Before Hermione could say anything else, Draco turned around and walked out of the room. Hermione was left all alone and she completely lost it.
Draco muttered the password to the Slytherin common room and barged though the door. Blaise was talking to some people and when he saw the look on Draco’s face, he excused himself from the group and went to Draco.
“You look like you just got a life sentence to Azkaban.”
“Not here.” Draco headed up to the boy’s dorm and Blaise followed. Thankfully, it was deserted and Draco sat on the nearest bed.
Blaise sat on a bed across from him, “What’s goin’ on?”
Blaise let out a low whistle, “Oh man.”
“Tell me about it.”
“What are you going to do?”
I have no fucking clue. Leave the country?”
“Your father is going to kill you.”
“You think you’re kidding, but I really think he might. I don’t even want to think about what he will do to Hermione and the…Jesus, I can’t even say it.”
“What did you do when she told you?”
Draco thought about it for a minute and sighed, “I freaked out.”
“Well, that’s to be expected.”
“Yea, but I said some things I shouldn’t have.”
“What did you say?”
“I said that getting involved with her was the worst mistake of my life.”
“Geez man, that wasn’t the best idea.”
“I know, but I was upset; I still am!”
“How do you think she’s feeling right now? Anyone who actually knows what’s really going on can see that you two are in love.”
Draco glared at his friend, “You sound like a girl.”
“That may be, but I’m right.”
“I hate you.”
“You just told your pregnant girlfriend that getting involved with her was the worst mistake of your life.”
“Yes, I fucked up. I get it.”
“Don’t you think that maybe you should go apologize to her before she does something stupid?”
“She wouldn’t do anything foolish.”
“I don’t know about that. She thinks she’s been abandoned by the father of her child.”
Draco cringed, “Don’t say that.”
Blaise got up and pushed Draco off the bed, “Go find her, moron.”
“Ok, but I want you to come with me. She won’t kill me if you are there.”
Blaise smiled and the boys went downstairs.
Hermione was sitting at the top of her staircase, holding a half-empty bottle of Firewhiskey and tears were streaming down her face. Draco had told her that she was nothing but a huge mistake. She had been reckless and stupid, and she had fallen in love with him and he told her that it had meant nothing; she was just something to fix his hard on. He was right about something though. If Draco’s father found out that he had impregnated a Muggle born witch, there would be no place on Earth that Hermione could hide. Lucius Malfoy would hunt her down and kill her without a moment’s hesitation simply to stop the birth of this bastard abomination. Draco had been right; he had been cruel and heartless, but right.
Hermione took one last sip of Firewhiskey and let go of the bottle. It rolled down the stairs spilling the contents onto the carpet and finally came to rest on the last step. Hermione stood up, took a deep breath, closed her eyes and stepped down, purposely missing the first step. As she expected, she slipped and tumbled down the stairs. Before she hit the bottom, she felt an excruciating pain and then slipped into blissful darkness.
End of 13.
I’m sorry it took so long to update. I had a little mishap with my finger and a meat slicer and I was out of commission for a while. Thanks for not giving up one me! :)
