I lay on my couch just staring at the ceiling; I had tried to call James again but got no answer so I had decided not to pursue him. Better let him cool off then talk to him, but I was still intent on not apologizing to Ginny till she apologized first.
Mum had tried phoning but I had sent her a message saying I’d rather be alone right now so she had respected my wishes and left me alone. Now I got what I wanted.
I was alone.
Whoop-di-woop.
Then someone was knocking at the door, I rolled over and squinted at the door, trying to guess who would be knocking at the door at seven o’clock at night. Realising that I didn’t have a psychic power and I would have to get up off my arse if I wanted to find out who was at the door.
When I opened it my eyes widened when I saw not only my cousin India but her now-serious boyfriend Lucas and his roommate Joey standing grinning at me. “Alix, so nice to see you” India said smiling at me as she walked past me into the flat.
“Halliwell” Lucas nodded following her in.
I raised an eyebrow and looked to Joey, “Should I prepare for the worst?” I asked. Joey just smirked and pushed me into the living room.
“Wait and see”
I walked in and gave them all a suspicious look, “Okay, you have officially freaked me out, what’s going on?” When none of them answered I sighed, “Come on, I was in the middle of being miserable”
“That’s why we’re here Alixia” India said earnestly, “Lucas works with a guy who does advertising and got four tickets into the new club Hallows, and given recent events” she looked up and down at me, and I straightened up nervously. Okay, I was wearing my sweats and mabye I hadn’t washed my hair, “we thought you could use a night out”.
“Oh, thanks but-“
“No buts, Joey, if he even had a date,” Lucas grinned looking sidelong at his friend, “has given up taking her to take you instead”
“Yeah Alix, come on, I sacrificed this for you” Joey tilted his head, “It would be plain rude if you passed this opportunity up”
“Exactly, so be a good friend, and get your glad-rags on” Lucas said, “Don’t be an Eve Adams”
Before I could retort to this stupid comment, how dare he even joke about her! India jumped up and started to push me into the bedroom, “Come on, I’ll help you pick out an outfit”
“Yeah one that I could comfortably wear while murdering someone” I growled.
~*~*~*~*~
Hallows turned out to be quite obviously a singles bar, as soon as we walked through the doors all I saw were couples kissing, cuddling, giggling. It didn’t even have a dance-floor, just a big square shaped bar in the middle and lots of couches and dark corners due to the dim lighting. There was a lot of hub-bub when we walked in and to save myself from getting rid of guys hitting on me, I took Joey’s hand in mine and pulled us over to the bar, in a well-lit area.
India just laughed at my face, “Oh Alix, don’t worry, it’s just a night out to be social, you don’t need to put on a scary face to chase the boys away!”
“She’s not putting on a face” Lucas said, getting some money out, “hey, hitting is not nice you troll”
“You’re not nice” I grumbled back at him, ignoring his smirk. Seriously, how could India laugh and kiss that mouth. “Can I get two cocktails please, a Dementors Kiss?” I asked the young barmaid, she nodded and waved her wand to make the bottles pour themselves while she ran up the bill.
“Feeling thirsty are we Alix?” Joey asked, I shot him a look and he held up his hands in surrender, “I’m not judging, I’m not judging”
India looked at me sadly, “You’re missing him aren’t you?”
Looking away, I couldn’t help but see couples enjoying each other’s company, one girl smiled as a guy tucked a bit of her hair behind her ear and then leaned up to kiss him on the lips. I groaned and took a big gulp of cocktail, “Yeah, I do”
“So what happened?” India asked quietly leaning in.
“I argued with his mother, called her a bitch and he took offense to that funnily enough” just reliving that night made me want to curl up and die, how could I of said that? Should of taken the high road and let Ginny be the bad one, not the other way about, “and he hasn’t been back since”
“Oh Alix,” India looked really sad for me.
Oh god.
“Listen, let’s not talk about this anymore” I drained the rest of my drink, “let’s just have a fun night out, I need one”
“Yeah, Halliwell, ‘bout time” Joey said grinning, “Let’s get fun Alix back!”
“Sounds like a plan bro’” Lucas laughed, “Barkeep, more drinks!”
As the night went on, I started to loosen up and not feel sad anymore, since there was no dance-floor, India and I just danced about the place. Giggling and laughing, I even danced with Lucas and Joey a couple of times.
“This is the most fun ever!” I whooped as India and I spun about on the bar stools, I giggled as everything blurred into one and the lights flashed in my eyes, it felt … magical.
“Oh I’m starting to feel sick” India giggled weakly, she stopped and held her head, “Oh, that was not a good idea”
“Yeah I’m starting to get a downer” I shook my head, then stopped and copied India holding my head, “That was so not a good idea”
India took my hand and laughed again, “I think we lost Luc and Joe” she looked around, “mabye we shouldn’t have danced away from them” she led me to a couch and we sat down.
“I’m glad that you dragged me out” I said tiredly, “I needed a night out, since James was being an asshole”
“So he didn’t stand up for you?” India narrowed her eyes, “that is really crappy of him”
“I know right?!” I said sitting up, “everyone acts like I am the bad one here, Ginny didn’t need to start anything that night” I leaned back in the chair happier, “finally someone sees my side of things”
“Always on your side ‘cuz” India smiled, “I needed some family company since Alfie’s been spending so much time with Tamara”
“Pfft romance,” I shook my head, “who needs it”
“Aww come on, pretty girls like you shouldn’t say that” a voice from behind me said.
India and I both looked around at the voice and I think it was safe to say our mouths both made a ‘O’ shape when our eyes clocked onto the very handsome and dressed in a crisp black shirt that clung to his chest in all the right places man that was my boss. Niall Harwood.
Oh dear god, hormones are bad enough without alcohol pumping throughout your body.
“Niall” I said, “hey” I glanced at India, “this is my cousin India”
“Nice to meet you” India smiled, offering her hand.
“You too India” Niall offered that cute half-smile, shaking her hand, “you girls having a nice night out?”
“Well, it’s a lads night out” he looked embarrassed, “since I’m single now”
“Oh I’m sorry” India said making a sympathetic face.
“I’m not, she was an utter cow” I said taking another sip of my drink.
“Alix!” India scowled.
“No, she actually was” Niall laughed out loud, “glad I escaped early”
“It was Eve Adams,” I rolled my eyes to India who looked bewildered at the conversation she was a part in. Her eyes widened in acknowledgement and she nodded at Niall.
“Yeah, you got lucky with that one, she’s an utter bitch” she glanced round, “Alix, I’m gonna go find Lucas and Joey, will you be okay?”
“Yeah, I have my drink and a couch” I gave her a thumb up, “all good on my part”
“Okay, see you soon” India smiled at Niall; “nice to meet you” she walked away and disappeared into the crowd. I glanced at Niall and grinned when I saw him watch her walk away.
“I’d stop looking” I said, shaking my head and taking another drink, “she’s taken, her and her ass”
Niall chuckled embarrassedly, “Yeah, I didn’t really hide that I was looking all that well did I?”
“Not at all” I said laughing.
“Same old story” he said, sighing and sitting beside me on the couch “all the pretty girls are taken”
“Yeah, that’s the price of being pretty,” I downed the rest of my drink and shook my empty glass at a girl carrying a tray around taking orders, “they’re never single”
“That explains it then” Niall said, “I’m never going to find a pretty girl for me then”
“Do you think she got the message I want another drink?” I slurred a little, mabye I shouldn’t have had that jug of pina colada’s and a martini and a Jack Daniel’s …. and a couple of vodka’s.
WOAH, head rush, all that alcohol seemed to of hit me at once. I felt the overwhelming urge to giggle, to get up and dance, to spin about and to do all these things at once.
“Mabye you’ve had enough” Niall said, gently taking my glass away, “you here with James?”
I laughed loudly and my sudden laughter took Niall by surprise as he nearly dropped the glass, “No, apparently being with me isn’t as good as being with his mum”
“Alix, mabye you should explain a little better, because that sounded completely wrong” Niall said laughing hesitantly. I looked at him and was about to explain but in my drunkenness, my brain came up with another idea, one that I would end up regretting.
“Or I could do this” I said and leaned in and captured his lips.
~*~*~*~*~*~
The next morning I found myself head buried under pillows and the duvet wrapped around my body. I groaned loudly whenever my head moved and cursed when I coughed and brought on a wave of pain. Not to self: never ever ever drink again.
I heard loud knocks and tried to bury myself deeper under the covers, “Go away” I mumbled quietly, as the knocks felt like someone hammering my head everytime. After a few minutes, I heard the knocks stop and I smiled enjoying the silence for my hangover.
Knock, knock.
Blearily I opened my eyes and hissed when the sunshine shone through the window and made it almost impossible to see where I was blundering too. I wrapped the sheet around me when I realised I was just in bra and pants, “This better be a bloody family emergency” I grumbled walking to the door, “or someone is going to die”
Louder knocks this time.
“I’m coming, for Merlin’s sake”
I opened my door and my eyes widened in shock and for a minute I didn’t feel any pain in my hungoverness.
It was James.
“Hey” he said, looking quite embarrassed I noticed that he held a bouquet of red roses and an envelope in his hands.
“Hi” I said slowly not sure of what else I should say. I glanced down and made a face, “I’m going back in to put clothes in,” I looked up and looked at James, “feel free to come in” as I walked away I couldn’t help but add, “not like you should need an invitation”
As I put clothes on, I couldn’t help but feel incredibly nervous about why James was here. Was he going to break up with me? With my shaky hands I smoothed back my hair and let out a sigh, oh God if he was, please give me the grace to not fall to pieces and make a fool of myself?
I walked into the living room and sat down opposite James on the couch, not quite meeting his eyes. It felt so awkward after him not being here, I didn’t know what to say and judging by his face, neither did he.
“Brought these for you” he said quietly, pushing the envelope and bouquet of roses, “to say sorry”
“Sorry, for what exactly?” I asked, accepting the roses, they were yellow ones (my favourite) and smelled gorgeous.
“For that night” James rubbed his eyes, “I should of stuck up for you but Alix, she’s my mum” he looked over at me, “regardless of what she says you have to treat her with respect like I treat your mum”
“James, if she begins to bring me down like that I’m not gonna sit there and take it” I said heatedly, “especially in front of my parents”
“I know, I know” James got up and kneeled down in front of me, “and I’ve told her this as well, but I don’t wanna fight anymore Alix, especially not over this” he tilted his head, “can we just move on from this please? I missed you”
My heart just stopped and looking at his face and hearing the sad tone in his voice, how could I not just want to move on from this?
“Of course we can” I said softly, cupping his face, “I missed you too” I said quickly, kissing his lips. I felt him smile against my lips and his hands slide up my waist and push me against the couch.
“Mabye I should just show you how much I missed you” he said suggestively, giving my neck small kisses.
“Was there any point in me getting changed?” I giggled.
“Well, I do think you suited it, love” he chuckled, my phone vibrated and I gave him a smirk.
“I’ll meet you in there just gonna answer my phone” I said, laughing loudly when he growled into my ear.
“Don’t be too long”
I laughed and flipped my phone up, and smiled seeing India’s name on the caller ID, “Hey cuz,” I said smiling, “that’s the last time we go drinking like that aga-“
“Alix, do you remember last night?” India’s voice was worried.
“Oh god what did I steal?”
“Ehm, only a kiss off of your boss!”
My phone dropped to the floor and I sat there stunned.
What. The. Fudge!
