A/N: This is written for a challenge called the post secret challenge. It comes from a site called post secret and my topic is eavesdropping so… here goes nothing. I appreciate any and all reviews.
Chapter 1: The truth comes out
Since I was a little girl, I knew I was different, that I was special. I knew that I wasn’t just the daughter of The Granger Dentists. I knew there was more to my story. I used to pretend that I was adopted and that my dad was a secret spy for the government, and my mom worked for an American government department. When I turned eleven, and realized that I was a witch, I forgot that little fantasy. I went to school and made friends, and enemies. I became the book worm, the Mudblood, and the brightest witch of our age. I have a secret though… Most of my knowledge comes from things I have heard, not from things I have read, at least the things that relate to social conversations. Want to know my secret? If you don’t, then too bad, I’m telling you anyways. I am an avid eavesdropper. Yes, yes I know, Hermione Granger, the girl who eavesdropped? Doesn’t sound like me at all, does it? That would because I’m really good at hiding it. Having a photographic memory, something nobody knows about me, makes me really good at multi-tasking. So I can simply glance at a page in a book, and have it read and memorized, while doing 10 other things as well. So I have a tendency to sit outside by the black lake, or in a classroom and pretend to be reading or writing, when I am really listening to your conversations. Eavesdropping can come in handy; however, it has its downfalls too. The biggest, is sometimes, you learn things you have no desire to learn. As I learned this very day, sitting in Snape’s classroom, listening to a hushed discussion with Professor McGonnagall.
I pretended I was writing an essay I had finished 20 minutes earlier, when they walked into the Professor’s office. I closely listened to their conversation.
“Is she in danger?” McGonnagall asked slowly.
“Depends on your take of things, Headmistress. Voldermort is the girls biological father, before Belle ran away and put her up for adoption, by a muggle family none the less. Voldermort will not harm Ms. Granger, his daughter, but he will come to claim her as his heir.”
WHAT? I was Whose Daughter exactly? And who was Belle? At this point, I was not sure what I should do. I couldn’t tell Harry, or Ron, but should I ask Snape questions. If I did that then he would know I was evesdropping and that was a frightening concept. No I wouldn’t say anything.
“That would put her in danger. She needs protection.”
“I disagree, because then she will be seeking out answers.”
“Snape, she needs to know who she is, but I agree I suppose, now is not the time.”
At this point I decided to knock on the Professors door.
“What? Ms. Granger how long have you been standing there?”
“And you are knocking now!”
“Well how else was I supposed to learn information about who I really am, if you were both intending to hide it from me? I’ve finished my essay. I am leaving now!”
“Ms. Granger wait.” The two called after me, but I stormed out of the room.
