The Greengrass family and the Malfoy family, sat in the dining hall of the Malfoy Manor. While everyone was eating and chatting; Astoria and Draco barely spoke at all. To each other, that is. They were seated across from each other, but that didn't stop them from exchanging foul stares.
“Astoria, how are your studies?” asked Narcissa.
“I'm doing well in most subjects, Mrs. Malfoy. Professor Sprout says I could be better at Herbology, though. “ said Astoria.
“I find that surprising.” muttered Draco.
“What do you mean?” asked Astoria, overhearing Draco's comment.
“Herbology is the simplest class at the school. You'd have to be a shrub yourself, not to pass it.” said Draco.
Astoria quickly stood from her seat and picked up a handful of pie. She launched it straight at Draco, and it hit his face and clothes. It didn't take long for Draco, to pick up a piece of cake and to throw it straight at Astoria. It splattered all over her dress and the right side of her face.
“There goes our dessert.” Mr. Greengrass whispered to his wife.
Draco and Astoria continued to throw food at one another. Soon, they were restrained by their fathers.
“Draco, go upstairs and change your clothes.” said Narcissa.
Draco stormed out of the ding room. Astoria took a napkin and wiped some of the food off of her face.
“We have a tub upstairs. I'll use a Charm and be sure to fix up your dress. Go and clean yourself up.” said Narcissa.
Astoria looked to her mother, who nodded her head. Astoria walked out of the dining room and then went upstairs and made her way to the Loo. She removed her food-stained dress and then began to draw herself a bath.
Thirty minutes later, Astoria finished her bath and was handed her dress, which had been cleaned by Narcissa, using a cleaning charm. She was then taken downstairs, where she saw her family standing at the door and getting ready to leave. Draco was also there, with Lucius.
“Astoria, I believe my son has something to say to you.” said Luicus.
Draco rolled his eyes. “I apologize.”
“Thank you, Draco.” said Astoria.
“Now, why don't you two shake hands and be done with this ridiculous feud?” asked Mr. Greengrass.
Astoria sighed and extended her hand to Draco. He took it, and gave it a nice hard shake. Nearly breaking Astoria's hand. The Greengrass family left Malfoy Manor, which did nothing but delight Astoria. At least, she wouldn't have to see Draco until next holiday. Or so she thought.
A month passed, and Astoria was doing some shopping at Hogsemade for her mother. She was passing by Honeydukes, when she decided to step inside and treat herself to some candy. As she began to browse; she leaned over to view some Chocoballs, that were being held in a glass jar. Suddenly, she could see Draco's reflection. She gasped and stood up straight, and saw Draco standing at the other side of the shelf.
“What the bloody hell are you doing here?” asked Astoria.
“I'm buying some Cockroach Clusters for my mother's party tonight.” said Draco.
“I'm only glad that the candy is kept in jars. At least you can't throw anything at me.”
“You're the one who started the fight.” argued Draco.
“Because you insulted me. Anyone with common sense, would have done the same.”
“Anyone with manners, wouldn't of.”
“Then I guess you don't have manners.”
“No, I don't!”
Astoria smiled and Draco realized his error. She continued to browse, but Draco followed her.
“I thought you had forgiven me.” said Draco.
“I didn't accept your apology, Draco. I only said 'thank you.' “
“You think you're really clever, don't you?”
“At least I'm not being compared to a shrub anymore.”
Astoria walked out of Honeydukes. Draco knew it would be wrong to follow her; but, somewhere deep in his heart, he wanted Astoria to forgive him for what he had said. So, he ran after her.
“Astoria, wait!” Draco called out.
Out of nowhere; three green bolts shot straight at Astoria. She fell to the ground unconscious, and Draco ran to her side. He called for help and Astoria was sent to Saint Mungo's. Thankfully, she was all right and a nurse took Draco to her room. One of the doctors at the hospital, was with Astoria.
“You must be the boy that found this little witch.” said the doctor.
Draco nodded. “Is everything okay?”
“Just fine. It seems that she was hit with Histedius. It was a powerful hex, but she's only suffered some bruising. I suppose the shock, just caused her to pass out. We've contacted her parents, and they'll be here soon to pick her up.” explained the doctor.
The doctor left Draco and Astoria alone. Draco approached the foot of Astoria's bed, and she could only chuckle.
“You can come closer. I'm not going to do anything to you.” said Astoria.
Draco went to the right side of Astoria's bed and straightened his throat.
“You should have been more careful.” said Draco.
“I guess that I wasn't looking. Everything happened so fast.”
“It was probably some Mudblood from the school.”
“Thank you, Draco. For taking me to the hospital. I know that I've not been very friendly to you, and you have every right to hate me, but...For what it's worth? You've done a good thing today.”
“Just don't expect any more favors.”
Astoria smiled and shook her head. “Of course not.”
Draco turned and left the room. He tried to look as though he was happy to leave; but, in the back of his mind, he was simply relieved that he was able to save Astoria.
