A/N: Hey guys. I am speecless. The reviews from the last chapter were absolutely overwhelming. I don't even know what to say. I've had half of this chapter written for the longest time, but I just couldn't find the time to fnish it. So I thought I would sit down tonight and make myself write. Ah, the beauty of homework free nights. What it all boils down to is this: I can't thank everyone enough. You guys are way too kind.
Disclaimer: All Jo's. I mean, obviously.
I am officially the world’s biggest hypocrite.
I’m getting ready for a date with the one and only person I swore I’d never date.
Oh, the irony.
It’s disgusting actually.
If I can change my mind about something like this, a.k.a: not wanting to choke a certain James Potter every time I see him, then there must be something wrong with me.
Ah well, first step to fixing your problems is admitting to them.
But seriously now, is this karma for something I did bad?
I should really start volunteering more. Maybe help cross an old lady or two across the street.
It’s on the to do list.
So he told me to wear something wind resistant.
Who says that?
Who, when asked what to wear for a date, says it must be wind resistant?
This kid should be studied.
Maybe he thinks it was funny.
Well, it wasn’t.
So I wonder if he knows that I’m not exactly the best flyer in the world?
I mean, I’ve never been on a broom before.
What else would need wind resistant clothing besides flying? This is James ‘Quidditch King’ Potter we are talking about here.
Oh god, this means I’m going to have to sit behind him on his broom. And hold on to him. And be totally dependant on him. He’ll love that. Stupid Potter.
At least this will be the most eventful thing that has happened today.
It was rather boring.
Correction, it was almost on par with a History Of Magic class. Extreme boredom.
Dylan had a friend over, and James and Sirius went off and did god knows what in the city.
So basically, I finished a book today.
And it wasn’t even a good book. It was just a distraction. From my life. And the lame-ness of it.
300 pages of lame-ness distraction. Woe is me.
On the bright side, (oh looking at me being bright), I’ve decided on an outfit.
It shouldn’t matter this much.
I have to keep reminding myself.
I also can’t believe Sirius agreed to James’ plan. He actually agreed to drink polyjuice potion tonight and turn into James. So that the parents think that James is home, of course. We told them that Sirius was going to take me out tonight and show me around town. When in reality, it appears I am going to be scared to death on a broomstick with James. How fun.
Thanks to Sirius though, I won’t lose my job. How embarrassing would it be if the Potters fired me for going on a date with their son? Shudder.
The things we have to do to cut a boys hair.
“Lily, are you ready?”
Ready as ever.
If this had been last year, I would have fired back a ‘ready to turn you down again.’ But he’s nice now. James is nice. It’s just weird thinking about.
“Yeah! Is Sirius all changed?”
James is standing in the doorway.
In some nice jeans.
No. In his normal jeans. Get a grip, Lily Evans.
“Of course. He’s actually off having a conversation with my dad right now. As me, obviously. So now would really be the prime time to sneak out.”
The prime time?
“Okay, let’s go.”
And grabbing my jacket.
“So, I want to take you flying. Show you a whole new world, you know?”
Who called it.
At least I’ve mentally prepared myself for this.
“All right, let’s go!”
I think that was a nice response.
I’ve just agreed to go flying.
Why am I such a chicken? I might as well be sprouting feathers. Honestly.
Head girls can’t be chickens.
“Okay get on behind me and…erm…don’t let go.”
No need to sound embarrassed.
There’s no way I’d risk letting go and falling to my doom.
I mean, who’d want to go that way?
Oh, this is going to be weird.
“Alright, Lily Evans, welcome to the best date of your life.”
Did he actually just say that?
And we’re in the air.
But seriously, did he just say that?
I thought his head had deflated. Sigh.
Don’t look down.
“Lily, open your eyes. Look at the city lights.”
Not opening my eyes. I will fall down.
“No way, James, I’m not looking.”
Uh oh. He’s stopped the broom midair. Oh my god. He’s going to make me.
“Evans, open your eyes.”
Okay. They’re open.
Don’t want to upset the person who’s keeping you suspended high above the ground. Seriously any sudden moments, and I drop.
“Potter, I’m afraid of flying.”
Even though he already knows that.
“I know that.”
There we go. Confirmed. Jerk.
“Lily, in doing things that we are afraid of, we grow. I just want you to experience as many things as you can in your life. I know you may never understand, but flying means a lot to me. It’s freeing. It’s relaxing. I want you to feel what I feel. Just look around, the world is beautiful.”
Um. Did James Potter just say that?
Why do I have the sudden urge to wrap my arms around him tighter?
I guess it wouldn’t hurt to look down. Deep breath.
What am I saying? Well here we go.
And he’s right.
The city really is beautiful from up here. This boy surprises me. He’s not supposed to be right. He’s not supposed to be cute. And he’s not supposed to be smiling at me like that.
My, it’s a mad world up here.
“I told you.”
Yeah, you did.
“Truth time. Are you having a good time?” James asked.
Well. Admittedly, the flying was a little life scarring. It did have its perks though. It really gives you almost a new perspective on the world. That was much needed. And we landed by the docks. That’s probably a plus as well. On solid ground. Just sitting and talking. With my sworn enemy?
“Yes, it’s been amazing, James.”
He looks surprised. Believe me, I’m just as shocked.
“Wait. Did you just say that you enjoyed and are enjoying my company?”
Of course he would say that.
“Let’s not read too far into it, shall we?”
I really wish I could control my smiling.
But that would be asking too much out of life.
And besides, it’s been rather nice to me tonight.
“So I’ve shown you a whole new world, and we’ve had a heart to heart on the docks. What do you say to walking back and relieving Sirius from his impersonating duties? I’m not sure how much of my parents anyone can take.”
Not going to argue.
I like how he doesn’t want to make me fly again. Even though, I must admit, it wasn’t that bad.
“After you, miss.”
All went smoothly.
Sirius has changed back into himself.
Nobody suspects a thing.
The only thing we have to deal with now is Sirius Black. And his taunting.
“So do you guys love each other now?”
We’re sitting on the zebra. It actually resembles more of a bed now. Maybe that’s just because two boys are sitting on it.
“Black, seriously, stop it!”
It is funny though. And it’s not like he’s going to stop just because I said something.
“Prongs, tell her she’s no fun.”
Because he can’t just tell me himself.
Which reminds me.
“Hey why is your nickname Prongs? I meant to ask you at the docks.”
They always avoid the question.
“Ooh, you guys went down to the docks? How romantic.”
I’m going to slap him.
“Yeah, we went down to the docks, Sirius. And I got this girl to go flying!”
It’s weird, James seems to trust me with everything else. I guess it’s personal. Even though he’s told me everything else about his life?
One day, hopefully, he’ll let me in.
I wonder if it’s weird how I want to be let in.
How can one summer change someone so much?
Head girl/boy duties are going to be interesting. Maybe even fun.
I wonder if we would still be allowed to keep our positions if we started dating each other?
I wonder a lot.
"Hey, guys, do you want to go finish watching Mary Poppins now?"
Sure Sirius. Anything to distract me from my own mind.
