Chapter 5: A Fresh Start
Hermione and I raced down the stairs all the way to the dungeons, only slowing down when walking past the Great Hall. We paused just after passing through the door to the dungeons, so that Hermione could slip under the cloak. Luckily the halls were completely deserted, making it even easier to get Hermione into the common room. However, this time when I entered the room it wasn’t as quiet as before. Instead, many people were rushing through on their way to breakfast, which made it hard for Hermione to follow me up to my dorm. Somehow we managed with only bumping into one or two people accidentally, while the three other times it was just revenge. Finally we reached my dorm, which was, than God, completely empty of all my now ex-room mates.
“Come on, my stuff is over here.” I told her as she quietly closed the door and took off the cloak. “Ok, let’s hurry, personally I really don’t want to stay here any longer than I have to and plus Pansy and her army of whores would have a field day if they saw you in here.”
“Oh please I’m not worried about them they don’t scare me one bit, besides I saw them downstairs on their way out, and I even saw one of them coming out of the boys dorm attached by the lips to Blaise Zabini.” She replied as we began to pack up everything.
“Honey, that happens so much that you’re considered an outcast, like me, if you don’t get caught at least once a week.” I laughed while emptying my drawers. It only took us a short time before all my stuff was packed and waiting to be moved up to my new home in Gryffindor Tower. YAY!!! Hermione levitated my trunk and placed the cloak over top of it, when I realized that we had no way to hide both her and my trunk.
“Um, Mione, how are we gonna hide both you and my trunk?” I asked dumbly.
“Disillusionment charm” she quickly answered as she raised her wand, touched it to the top of her head, and said the incantation. Her whole body slowly began to blend with our surroundings from head to toe.
“Oh of course, something we supposedly don’t learn until next year, why am I not surprised that you know how to do that.” I laughed
“Oh shut up and let’s get going before the common room is too crowded again.” she urged as I watched the door open on its own, or rather an invisible Hermione opened it. I quickly obliged, and left the room with a huge grin on my face. A grin that quickly fell when I walked into the common room and saw Malfoy and his crew chilling on the couches. If it weren’t for the fact that this was the last time I’d see all them together like this, I would’ve been really pissed.
“Well, well, well, if it isn’t little Parker all alone…again.” Malfoy drawled as his “friends” snickered in delight. He’d obviously forgotten about this mornings events. I just rolled my eyes and kept on towards the door a.k.a my freedom.
“Chris don’t let him get to you, just keep walking.” Hermione hissed in my ear as Malfoy stood and began making his way towards me.
“Well aren’t you being rude, not replying to your superior when they speak to you.” Malfoy added as he stepped in my way, that was it, screw keeping my cool. I was going to leave here with a bang.
“Why what do you mean, I don’t see anyone that’s superior to me around her, and besides I am giving you the respect you deserve, none.” I said icily
“Why you little bitch.” He snarled as he raised his hand to smack me. I heard Hermione softly gasp when I caught his wrist in my hand only inches from my cheek. The entire room suddenly went silent as I glared at Malfoy’s look of shock that quickly disappeared back into his icy demeanour.
“I hope you don’t think that you were really about to hit me, because trust me you wouldn’t last five seconds in a fight with me.” I sneered before throwing his arm away from my face so hard that he fell to the ground. I quickly stepped over him and stormed out of the room. Just as the door closed I heard him yell to me…
"THIS ISN'T OVER PARKER!"
“I gladly accept the challenge, Malfoy.” I hissed to myself as the door finally shut tight. I waited for a moment to see if he’d try and finish it now, but of course he was too coward.
“What the hell was that back there?” Hermione asked as we climbed the levels of the school, making our way to the tower. She’d rid herself of the charm by now and we were a good distance from the dungeons.
“That was me making an exit that will surely not be forgotten.” I laughed, trying to ease the little bit of tension that had built ever since we left the dungeons.
“Not that, I knew you wouldn’t stay in control if he called you out your name. What I’m talking about is that little threat and arse kicking you just gave Malfoy.” she said.
“Hey he tried to hit me and that’s not cool, if he tries it again I might just have to use some of my muggle skills and defend myself.” I replied aggressively.
“Ok chill out. I just hope that he really doesn’t plan on trying to get back at you for this.” She said worriedly.
“I don’t really care if he does because even if he doesn’t I still win.” I told her nonchalantly.
“Now, how do you figure that?” she asked.
“Well, if he doesn’t try to come after me again, then that proves he’s a coward, but if he does then I get the chance to kick his arse and prove that I’m much stronger.” I reasoned.
“Well I just hope that you weren’t bluffing, because then I’d have to rub it in your face if he proved you wrong.” She said mockingly.
“OK, 1) you’d never do that, especially with Malfoy involved, and 2) if need be I could show you a few useful moves to prove that I wasn’t.” I said daringly.
“Ooooo,” she squealed with delight, “then I could possibly use them on Ronald.” She added mischievously.
“No, instead use them on Lavender. It would be a much more interesting fight than you and Ron, besides you guys row enough as it is.” I laughed. Hermione just smirked as we walked the final hallway leading to my new home. She gave the password and we walked in to find the room completely deserted. We just walked on through, up to the Girls dorm where I placed my trunk next to my new bed and began to unpack my things. It felt good to be some place new.
Hermione and I went on to the library like I’d promised her, and started on our homework…for Friday. (Reminder: It’s only Sunday) That’s the good thing about Hermione and I, we’re a great one, two punch. She’s number one in books, while I’m number two; I’m number one in looks, and with my help she will be number two, not that I really needed to do much, just a small wardrobe change. We stayed in there studying for an hour before finally finishing the potions essay we’d been working on about the properties of Amortentia and how it’s properly prepared. We were just about to start on the pairs work for Ancient Runes when Harry slid into the seat next to me with Ron standing oddly by the chair next to Hermione. She just glared at him, as if daring him to even try to sit next to her.
While they silently battled, I snuck a glance at Harry who was looking wearily at his two friends hoping that Ron wouldn’t screw up…again. I then nudged him, to get his attention, and he quickly snapped his head in my direction. “What are you two planning?” I whispered, so that they wouldn’t hear, and gave him a questioning look. “Don’t be so nosy.” Was his only reply before grabbing my hand and pulling me to a standing position. “Um, we’re gonna let you two get to work.” He told them. Ron looked slightly pleased with this, while Hermione glared daggers at me. I just shook my head and mouthed “all them, not me” as I packed up my things and walked out the library with Harry, looking fleetingly over my shoulder at the two, who were surprisingly talking and not arguing.
“Ok, tell me what did u say to him and what are you two up to.” I asked him urgently.
“Like I said, don’t be so nosy, besides it’s nothing that Hermione won’t tell you about later.” He said, completely ignoring my question. “Come on, I’ve got a little bit of a surprise for you.” He continued, dragging me down the seventh floor corridor, towards the room of requirement.
“Hmm, does this surprise have anything to do with last night?” I inquired.
“No, it’s more about…well, you know how our one month is coming up?” he said, well asked.
“Yeah, on Wednesday, why?” I asked.
“Well, sadly I have quidditch practice that day, so you’re getting this surprise a little bit early and you’ll find out why when you get it.” He whispered the last bit in my ear causing my to shiver slightly.
“You’re a mess, you know that?” I replied mockingly.
“No, you just drive me crazy.” He replied in the same tone. Damn he’s way too good at making me blush and did I mention he’s super HOTT! We walked on in a comfortable silence for a few more minutes before we reached the entrance to the room. He paced back and forth three times before the door appeared, and the minute it did he pulled me to him and wrapped his hands over my eyes, blind-folding me. I covered his hands with my own, smiling as he guided me into my room
“When can I open my eyes?” I asked impatiently.
“Why don’t you wait until I tell you?” He countered
“Humph, you know me better than that.” I chuckled, when he finally let go of my eyes. I opened them wide to see a beautiful sight before me. There layed a lovely picnic lunch on the floor with a basket full of delicious looking food, a small red and blue blanket for us to sit on, and even candle light for two. I looked at it in awe as my mouth hung open, still taking in what was going on.
“What do you think?” Harry asked quietly in my ear as he wrapped his arm around me from behind and kissed my cheek.
“I have no clue what to say.” I conceded when no words came to mind.
“Well you just said a few words so I think that you should go with that instinct.” He chortled as he began to pull me towards the picnic. However, I decided to take his advice and go with my instincts, which told me to pull him back and towards me and let our lips move together instead of separately. I guess it worked for him as well because he kissed me back just as enthusiastically as I’d kissed him. He licked by bottom lip, begging for further explorations, which I happily granted. Our tongues danced together as his taste filled my senses. He tasted of brown sugar, sweet, yet spicy, all at the same time. The kiss began to deepen even more as he pulled me closer and I slid my hands up his chest to his neck. One word describes the feeling he gave me from the moment out lips touched…fireworks! Eventually we pulled apart for air, both of us breathing heavy and trying to steady our rapidly beating hearts. “I think I like that better than any words.” He murmured softly.
“Let’s just say that it’s my way of saying thank you.” I whispered, before stepping around him towards the lovely picnic. Harry grabbed my hand and joined me as we walked side by side.
“Then, I wonder what I get just by telling you that there’s just a little bit more to this picnic than just food.” He told me as he sat down on the blanket. I gently fell to my knees in front where he sat, situating myself in between his legs as he wrapped his arms around me once again.
“That depends on what you mean by more.” I answered coyly.
“Well what would I get for this?” He asked while digging into his pocket and retrieving a small, black, velvet, ring box. My eyes went wide with shock as I stared at it, and the doubled their size when he opened it. Inside was a beautiful gold ring with heart shaped, pink rhinestones incrusted all around it. It matched my necklace perfectly.
“Before you ask, it’s a promise ring and you should also check the inside.” He told me nonchalantly. I pick it up and tipped it to the side to see what he was talking about. The ring was engraved with, <3 CP & HP Together Forever <3.
“Aww I love it.” I sighed as he slipped it onto my finger and gazed at it in amazement. Harry softly grasped my chin, forcing me to face him, before kissing me tenderly.
“Just like I love you.” He whispered, gazing devotedly into my eyes. It took me a moment before what he just said finally sunk in. His hopeful eyes began to vanish and sorrow replaced them as the silence stretched between us.
“You do?” I finally asked, cautiously as his he began to look away in disappointment.
“Yes,” he mumbled inaudibly, “a lot, but its ok if you—” I quickly shushed him by placing a finger over his lips causing his eyes to snap back up to mine.
“I love you too.” I said…finally.
“You do?” He asked hopefully.
“Didn’t I just ask you that?” I retorted jokingly with a cheeky smile, making him laugh slightly already opening his mouth to reply. Before he could say a word I kissed him soundly on the lips, just to show him that it was true. He deepened the kiss slightly before pulling away. His hand slowly caressed my cheeks.
“Well I guess that we should finally began eating so that the food doesn’t get too cold.” He suggested as he moved to open up the basket.
“Before you do, I have to tell you something.” I called, bringing his attention back to me.
“What’s up?” he asked worriedly.
“Well, Hermione had an idea this morning at breakfast, that she got from me staying in the tower last night, and because she kind of…no, because she really hates Lavender right now, and there’s an extra bed in her room she suggested that I move my stuff up there instead of staying in the dungeons…so I did.” I babbled quickly.
“WHAT?” he yelled confusedly.
“I’m staying in Hermione’s dorm, you know the 6th year girls dorms of Gryffindor Tower.” I told him with a hint of sarcasm. “and before you ask it was Hermione’s idea, so you know it’s not against the rules and even if it was, do you really think I’d care?
He stayed silent for a moment, probably just as shocked as I was a few moments ago. Realization finally showed on his face as a huge smile replaced the ‘o’ shape his mouth had formed only seconds beforehand. “You’re actually staying in the tower now, as in I’ll actually see you more than just during class and meals?” he asked excitedly.
“Yes” I squealed in delight. He quickly wrapped his arms around me in a tight hug, whispering words of enthusiasm in my ear. We both stayed there for hours, celebrating the cheerful news we’d both just shared. For once in my life I’d actually felt happy, like nothing could go wrong right now. He made me happy and I loved him for that. Trust me I wouldn’t give this life up without a fight.
