Chapter 4: I Refuse

The next day I woke up to the sounds of Harry softly snoring in my ear. For a moment I just sat there smiling as thoughts of last night bounced around my head. Harry’s arms were still wrapped around me as he slept peacefully, besides the occasional snore. I sat there quietly for a few minutes just staring out the window before I felt him began to move as he awoke from his serene state with a yawn.

“Hey” I whispered as he kissed my neck gently.

“Morning,” he replied with another peck on my neck before placing one on my lips, “sleep well?”

“Surprisingly yes for having slept by a window, but now I have to go and get dressed.” I told him as I rose to my feet, bringing him with me.

“Do you really have to?” he yawned sleepily.

“Yes, but I’ll see you at breakfast, ok?” I replied, once again kissing his lips sweetly as he gave a slight nod in response. “Alright, I’ll see you in a minute.” I murmured against his lips before they touch mine in another kiss, then another and another, before I finally forgot that I had to leave. Harry’s hands held a tight grip on my waist as he pulled me into him, while mine slid up his muscular arms and found his neck. In a matter of seconds we were full out snogging with our tongues dancing together and exploring each other’s mouths. Finally we pulled apart, gasping for air, when I remembered that I had to get out of here. I stared up into those amazing green eyes for a moment before I pushed myself away. “Harry, I really have to go.” I sighed as I retreated from him, avoiding the temptation to continue kissing him.

“I know,” he whispered, grabbing my hand and lacing his fingers with mine, before coming closer, “I just really wish that you could stay,” he continued while his other hand caressed my cheek.

“I know, me too,” I began, as he leaned in for another kiss before I pulled away again, “but, right now I can’t, so I will see you at breakfast.” I added forcefully.

“Fine, I’ll see you then.” He agreed grudgingly, before letting go of my hand and placing one last sweet kiss on my forehead. I made my way out of the common room, finally, only turning around once I reached to portrait hole to see Harry wave to me from the bottom of the boys stairs. I blew him a kiss in return before we both finally made our way to our separate dorms.

The moment I made it to the Slytherin common room I breathed a sigh of relief to see that it was completely empty. YES! Everyone was probably still off shagging their brains out, so I could sneak in without anyone to question where I’d been or in their case, attack me.

“Look who thinks that she can sneak in without anyone noticing.” A voice drawled from the shadows. Damn, I guess I thought too soon…lol.

“What’s it to you Malfoy? What I do is none of your business.” I spat.

“What everybody in this house does is my business, as the Slytherin Prince.” He laughed haughtily.

“Well then how about I pronounce myself queen and have your arse demoted to court jester.” I countered with a hint of mirth in my voice.

“It would be so much easier for you to just cooperate with me if you plan on staying here for long.” He sighed gruffly.

“Why is this so hard for you to understand? I don’t give a damn what anyone here thinks of me or what I do because you’re all worthless pieces of shit, that were taught to think you’re all that, when really after you leave this place, everyone will probably forget your names and you’ll all go on to become even more worthless Death Eaters that will eventually die or be chucked into Azkaban. Oh, and you, as the so-called prince, are twice as insignificant as everyone else.” I sneered as I took a step towards the girls stairs.

“How dare you talk to me that way?” he seethed as he painfully seized my upper arm, forcing me to stay put.

“Get it through your head now I do whatever the fuck I want!” I told him through gritted teeth. His grip on my arm tightened, but my piercing glare didn’t falter, I showed no signs of backing down anytime soon. My hatred for him grew to a boiling point as we stood there waiting for the other to make the first move. Suddenly I felt a surge of energy spread through my entire body before settling in right where his hand was. Before I knew it, Malfoy was thrown clear cross the room, landing on his back near the common room entrance. I looked down at my arm for a mere second to see a red handprint where he’d held me as shock, fear, and some amazement spread throughout me like fire. I looked back up to see Malfoy stirring but not fully conscious…yet, so I ran as fast as possible up the girl’s and even faster to my room before he could awake. I slowed to a fast paced walk when I made it to my door so that I wouldn’t wake my roommates, only to find that only one girl was in the room when I entered. The rest were probably in the boys dorms, after doing God-Knows-What. I hastily pulled some clothes from my trunk and my things for the shower before running into the bathroom, hurriedly washing myself, and getting redressed. I applied my little bit of makeup and brushed my teeth before re-entering my room and seeing that all that only took me about 15 minutes. I quickly threw Mione’s pj’s on my bed, forgetting they were hers, and dashed out the room, back down to the common room, and out the entrance, without even trying to see if Malfoy had gotten up or not. I slowed down as I neared the Great Hall and slowly caught my breath before making my way to the Gryffindor table, where Hermione was seated.

“Hey girl.” I panted as I sat across from her and pulled a plate towards myself. She mumbled her response, still in a sullen mood from last night. “Still not feeling any better?” I asked as I began to pile food on my plate.

“No,” she admitted glumly, before a small smirk found its way to her lips, “but I bet you’re in a great mood after falling asleep in Harry’s arms last night.” She added in an accusatory tone. I suddenly dropped the pieces of sausage I’d been about to place on my plate as a small blush graced my cheeks.

“Um…see what had happened was…um, well” I stuttered, not knowing what to say.

“Yeah, save your excuses, there’s no need. I just want to know if you plan on staying up there more often.” She asked mischievously.

“I don’t know, why?” I asked in return.

“Well, I thought that you might like to move up a few floors; seeing as, I hate one of my room mates right now, you’d get to see Harry more often, the other room mate is crossed off by association, you’d get to see Harry more often, there’s an extra bed in our room, and did I mention that you’d get to see Harry more often.” She said, her voice dripping with mirth every time she said his name.

“Hm, sounds like you’ve been thinking about a lot of things since last night.” I laughed

“Yes, now will you do it or what?” She asked impatiently.

“Well…” I began, pausing for suspense, “why-the-hell wouldn’t I? Wait, I won’t get into any trouble for this right? I don’t need anymore detentions.” I added as an after thought

“Nope, I’ve read the rule book many times and never has it mentioned that students couldn’t move into other dorms if they so please and you now I know the rules better than anyone.” She answered matter of factly.

“Fine then, let’s do it.” I eagerly agreed before finally digging into my meal.

“Oh look, here comes the #1 reason for you to move,” Hermione laughed, before that glum look returned to her face, “and his faithful sidekick.” She muttered bitterly. I turned around to see Harry and Ron making their way towards us. I turned back around to see Hermione began to get up before I stopped her. “Sit down, and face him. You two live in the same house and are best friends, you’ll have to face him sooner or later. "I demanded. She conceded and slowly sat back down, still looking a little pissed. When Harry finally got to the table he quickly kissed me hello, before stacking his plate with food. Ron sat next to Hermione with a cheerful smile on his face, which Hermione only glared at, causing Ron to look slightly confused.

“Hey Mione, what happened to you last night, you just disappeared on me?” Ron asked as he piled food on his plate. Harry dropped his fork at this point and slowly looked up at his best friends waiting for Hermione to react.

“Not that you would’ve noticed.” She snarled without even looking his way.

“What are you talking about, of course I noticed?” He argued.

“Oh, please you were too busy swapping spit with Lavender to even notice I was gone” she spat.

“What?” Ron asked dumbly with a look of shock on his face.

“You heard me.” she snapped.

“Well,” Ron began suddenly gaining some courage, “sorry if someone was actually interested in me, it’s not my problem if you don’t like that.” Harry and I just looked away at this point, after watching the two like a tennis match for the past five minutes, and now knowing what was to come. Ron had just pushed Hermione’s last button and she was about to snap HIM in half. She suddenly stood up, grabbing the attention of the few students that were in the hall and smacked Ron clear across the face before storming out the room. The sound of her hand colliding with his cheek reverberated throughout the room after she left. Ron sat there holding his stinging cheek as the few students began to snicker and the scene before them.

“Mate, why the hell did you say that?” Harry questioned, not looking amused at all. His own seriousness reflected on my face as I stared at the door my best friend had just ran through before turning back to look at Ron, who had a handprint bruise blossoming on his cheek.

“What, it’s the truth, she didn’t need to overreact like that about the truth.” He defended.

“No the fuck it’s not, Lavender may seem interested in you now, but trust me by next week she’ll have moved on to some other guy. Unlike Hermione who’s been crushing on you for years.” I replied heatedly.

“What are you talking about, she only sees me as a friend?” he maintained

“Oh yeah, then why did we find her crying her eyes out last night after seeing you with Lavender?” Harry countered.

“She was crying last night?” he asked softly, finally dropping the defensive attitude.

“Yeah, and she’s probably at it again right now.” I spat angrily, “so if you would excuse me I think I’ll go and try to console her, again.” I got up and began to walk away, before turning around and adding, “You know, I don’t know what she sees in you because I’ve only ever seen you piss her off or make her cry and personally, as a friend, I don’t like it one bit.” Then I stormed off once more.

I made my way up to the Gryffindor common room, remembering the password from the night before, and quickly passed through the room on up to the 6th year girl’s dorms. I found Hermione, on her bed, with her legs hugged tightly to her chest as she stared out the window, with tears trickling down her face. “Just to let you know, I cussed Ron out after you left, and he still looks more confuse and shocked than anything.” I laughed as I sat down next to her and draped my arm over her shoulders.

“I don’t want to talk about him right now and I refuse let him get under my skin.” She said firmly, as he wiped another tear from her eye and sniffed back more tears. “How bout we go get your trunk right now? I have a feeling it’s better to move it sooner rather than later.”

“Ok, that make since and then later we can go to the library and do some homework, it seems to calm you sometimes, and besides it’s the one place you won’t find him on a Sunday.” I joked. This time she giggled softly with a small smile, before jumping up off the bed and walking towards the door.

“Fine then. So are you coming or not?” she asked happily.

“Yeah, after all you kinda need me to get into my common room.” I laughed, “But first I need to get Harry’s invisibility cloak, because if a muggle-born so much as steps foot into our common room, mmm, I don’t even want to think of the consequences.”

“Alright, but wait how do you know about the cloak?”

“Well sometimes we do sneak out to see each other after curfew, I mean do you think we just didn’t see each other after dinner all them times one of us had a detention. Come on now you know me better than that.” I admitted playfully as we walked down the stairs. Harry was just coming through the portrait hole when we came in, with Ron right behind him. There was silence for a moment before I spoke. “ Hey Harry, can I borrow the cloak for a minute, Hermione and I need to do something real quick?” I asked sweetly. He just nodded before Hermione ran upstairs to get it. She was back in a few seconds ready to go. Ron tried to make amends as we passed the boys on our way out. “Fuck off” were the only words he heard from her, leaving all of us speechless.
