After Charms, Rose and Scorpius made their way to potions, picking up Alicia on the way. “Oh, hey Ali! How was Herbology?” Asked Rose, spotting Alicia.
“It was allright, there was no one to laugh at, though. You usually occupy that position for me, but seeing as you got an A in it, it wasn’t likely that you’d continue, I suppose,” Alicia teased. Rose pretended to be hurt.
They entered the dungeon and settled at a desk, with Rose in the middle. By the end of the lesson, Rose’s cauldron was filled with a sort of bubbling gloop. She looked at it unhopefully, then checked what it was supposed to look like. Bingo! She had successfully brewed the polyjuice potion! Rose proudly filled a flask with the potion, corked it, then took it up to Professor Cordor’s desk for marking.
As Rose sat down, she heard Professor Cordor’s dull but slightly lofty voice announcing that today’s potions homework would be a foot long essay on the correct brewing of the polyjuice potion. The majority of the class groaned but Rose looked at Scorpius and said “Race?”. Scorpius nodded looking determined.
You see, Rose and Scorpius often had races to see who could finish a piece of homework fastest. It was very often Rose. It was a free period next for all three of them. So, Alicia went off to do some Head Girl duties, while Rose and Scorpius rushed to the library, all set to start their race.
While they were running, Scorpius asked panting a little, “What’s going on with you and Jack nowadays?”.
“We split up last night. I found him snogging another girl,” Rose called back.
“I’m sorry to hear about it,” Scorpius said, not sounding very sorry at all. “Well, I never liked Jack anyway.”
Scorpius always hated it when Rose had a boyfriend, for some reason. She did feel a little pang herself, when Scorpius had a girlfriend, Rose admitted to herself.
Soon they were at the library, very much in need of some time to catch their breath. Rose slumped onto a bookshelf, and Scorpius collapsed next to her. Rose looked into Scorpius’ eyes. They were like miniature crystal balls, Rose thought, every time she looked into them, they had a new depth.
Rose’s eyes then wandered down to his soft-looking lips. Never before had they looked so appealing, never before had she wanted to kiss them so much. Meanwhile, Scorpius was having similar thoughts.
Rose mentally shook herself, this was Scorpius Malfoy, one of her best friends. Still, he was very attractive.
Scorpius put his hand on Rose’s shoulder and smiled. Rose smiled back.
She didn’t know what happened, only that it was one of the most magical moments of her life. She stepped forwards and kissed him. Scorpius’ lips felt so soft and warm against hers. They finally broke apart for air.
“Oh, Rosie, I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long!” Scorpius whispered delightedly. And with that they plunged back in, this time not afraid. Rose kissed Scorpius as passionately as she knew how, pressing her lips harder against his.
She had lost all thought apart from Scorpius, until, that is they were interrupted by Madame Pince, the librarian. She cleared her throat, which caused Rose and Scorpius to break apart, looking rather embarrassed.
“Romance in the Library!” she screeched. “What do you think a library is for?”. Rose noticed a slight smirk playing on Madame Pince’s lips.
She and Scorpius raced back to the common room with their bags. Next minute, they were locked in a tight embrace, kissing each other deeply.
Rose checked her watch. They were already five minutes late for lunch! Rose pulled away regretfully and told Scorpius about their lateness.
McGonagall was just about to close the doors to the Great Hall, when she caught sight of two red faces sprinting to the doors. She waited until both Rose and Scorpius were in before closing the doors. Rose and Scorpius smiled gratefully at their Headmistress before searching for a place to eat. They found a place between Alicia and Alice Mitchell.
After a refreshing meal, Alicia and Rose set off to Arithmancy, and Scorpius to Astronomy. It was a rather dull lesson, it was basically just Professor Vector nattering on and us taking notes, Rose thought. Rose desperately wanted to see Scorpius again.
When the end of the lesson came and Rose saw Scorpius, she had to try very hard to stop herself throwing herself at him. Instead, she did nothing but walk to Defence against the Dark Arts.
“Right, class, settle down,” Professor Meridan was saying as Rose walked in. Rose wandered round the room, looking for a place to sit. There was an empty desk (two seats) and a half-occupied desk behind. Rose quickly bagged a seat on the empty desk. Scorpius sat beside her and Alicia pushed off sulkily to the other desk.
“Today, we shall be looking at the Patronus Charm. It is extremely difficult and will require your fullest attention.” Rose looked up at the sound of these words; she loved a challenge.
“Everybody stand please. Now I want you all to think of the happiest moment in your lives.” Professor Meridan instructed. Everyone did as they were told. After a few minutes solid thinking, Rose had got it. Rose smiled around, to see Scorpius and many others still in deep thought. After a couple more minutes, most of the rest had got their memories. Rose caught Scorpius’ grey eyes and grinned at each other.
“Everybody got their memories?” asked Professor Meridan. When the class all nodded she said, “Good. Right, form an orderly queue, please. Firstly, Amanda, you come here. Focus on your memory. The incantation is Expecto Patronum.”
Amanda Rillington raised her wand and said shyly, “E-Expecto Patronum.” A tiny little wisp of silvery light came from her wand tip. It died out very quickly.
It was the same with everyone else. When it came to Rose, however, focusing on her memory she said, “Expecto Patronum!” A huge thing erupted from her wand tip. She soon realised that the ‘thing’ was a dog, made out of silvery light. Rose patted it gingerly on the back. The dog then disappeared.
“Excellent!” cried Professor Meridan. “This is exactly what I hoping for!” The rest of the class were staring in awe at Rose. “Twenty points to Ravenclaw!” said the Professor merrily.
Scorpius stepped forward and whipped out his wand. “Expecto Patronum!” he cried. An enormous dragon made out of silvery light burst from Scorpius’ wand. Like Rose, Scorpius patted his Patronus on the back. It soon died out. “Bravo! Two people on their first try. This is much more than I had expected!” Professor said, pleased. Alicia stepped forward next, she looked confident (she had obviously been emboldened by her friends’ success) and ready.
“Expecto Patronum!” she said. Alicia looked as though she had been expecting the same as her friends. But, only a feeble shadow of silver light came from her wand. Alicia walked unhappily to the back and asked, “How are you doing it?” Rose tapped her nose. “Rose!” Alicia whined, sounding annoyed.
“Some of you may be wondering what a Patronus is for. Well, it can protect you. You can send messages with it and it can ward off dementors.” Professor Meridan explained.
By the end of the lesson, only one other person had been able to produce a Patronus.
Next was Transfiguration. Rose did not do anything particularly outstanding in this lesson, but she did manage all of the new spells they learnt.
Rose, Alicia and Scorpius walked to dinner together. There she ate a delicious meal of the school’s lamb stew.
After dinner, Rose could be found in the Ravenclaw common room, sitting on her favourite armchair by the fire and talking to Scorpius.
“What was your memory in DADA?” he asked.
“Well, you go first,” replied Rose.
“To be honest, I used the moment that we kissed,” Scorpius admitted.
“Same, I just felt embarrassed about telling you, Scorpius,” Rose said. “Anyway, I’m going up to bed now goodnight”, she said.
“So am I, I’m exhausted,” Scorpius said, getting up and kissing Rose softly on the cheek.
Scorpius departed to his dormitory. Rose got up slowly, and made her way up to her dorm. Rose changed into her pyjamas, and then saw that Alicia wasn’t there and neither were any of her possessions. Then Rose saw a note on Alicia’s bed.
Dear Rose,
Sorry, but I have been told that I have to move into the Head Dorms. Hope you like your new roommate, Sarah Mills.
Alicia
Rose groaned loudly, just as a tall, pretty blonde girl entered the room. The girl bounded excitedly up to Rose and said “Hey, I’m Sarah, your new roommate”.
Rose said stiffly back, “Yeah, I’m Rose”.
And with that, Rose tumbled into her bed. She wanted Alicia to be in her dorm, not this Sarah girl. Then Rose thought about Scorpius, and if her father found out. And will her and Scorpius relationship ruin the friendship that it was built on?
