Rose rubbed her eyes and yawned lazily in her bed. She had only just woken up. And there it was, her holiday, it had all passed so quickly. From meeting Scorpius, to Christmas, to buying her supplies, to that moment. Her holiday, gone, all of it! For it was the morning of going back to Hogwarts.
Last term had been a nightmare. Rose was determined to make sure that this term, she would be more organised. If Rose had a fault, it would be a lack of organisation.
At least there was one good thing about last term, she was getting much more male attention. Rose had had two boyfriends already! Her current one was a Ravenclaw, and in Rose’s opinion he was one of the cleverest. He was a boy called Jack Slater, and he had chocolate brown hair that sometimes fell into his midnight blue eyes. He was also tall and most of the girls were now jealous of Rose. She suddenly felt a surge of affection for Jack, even though he and Rose weren’t going their best at the moment.
She had also spotted a few boys eyeing her up. So, most people considered Rose as quite pretty. Rose had very long, curly red hair and gentle brown eyes, which her best friend, Alicia Burton said “Would melt a heart of stone”. Ohh, that was so sweet of her, Rose thought.
The only thing that Rose actually hated about Alicia was that however hard she tried, Alicia was always doing better than her with guys. Rose thought that if she wasn’t best friends with Alicia, she would probably hate her, she was just too nice, and innocent. Guys were quite a lot more attracted by Alicia’s stunning body than by Rose’s normal one. It was the same with Alicia’s dead straight black waist-length hair and Rose’s red curls. But Alicia’s eyes finished all off. They were startlingly green, they had much more impact on guys than Rose's brown ones.
Rose sat up in bed, and, after stretching, got up. She lumbered down the stairs. She narrowly missed treading on one of Hugo’s keeper’s gloves. Bloody Quidditch! Rose just didn’t get it, what was the fun of watching people show off their new brooms? She picked it up and was contemplating throwing the glove in the bin when an indignant shout of, “Hey, that’s mine!”. Rose turned around to see her younger brother sprinting towards her. Hugo snatched the glove away from Rose. How does he muster the energy to run? Rose asked herself.
When she finally settled downwith her breakfast, she seemed to have lost some of her tiredness, thank god. Rose quickly ate up her toast. She was feeling peculiarly nervous about returning to Hogwarts.
Rose silently betted to herself that had picked up some pretty blonde over the holidays. Rose tidied away the remains of her breakfast neatly, surveyed the room, then charged back upstairs to her room. There she spent five minutes picking out an outfit that would make Jack forget all about his holiday girl.
She finally chose a tiny black miniskirt that showed off her long, slender legs, and a tight strappy green top that was beaded at the top. Jack had given her that top. And she also chose a Sapphire pendant necklace and her dark purple flat shoes. Rose combed her hair and brushed her teeth, then applied a thick layer of mascara and eyeliner. She then put on some nude lip gloss, grabbed her trunk and proceeded to heave it down the seemingly never-ending staircase. She managed to get it right in front of the fireplace, before collapsing onto the carpet. Rose got up unsteadily and stretched out an arm wearily to the pot of floo powder, and her hand tried to grasp mid-air.
Rose heard a giggle from behind her. She turned around to see Hugo clutching the little pot and laughing. She glowered at her brother before accio-ing the pot. Rose seized a heavy book from a nearby chair and aimed it at Hugo. It hit Hugo squarely on the nose.
She turned around and getting a pinch of floo powder, she dropped it onto the logs, which immediately erupted into emerald flames. Stepping into the flames with her trunk she said clearly “Hogwarts!”.
Rose saw the usual tumble of images, before watching Professor Flitwick’s office leap into view. Rose stepped gracefully out and saw none other than Alicia Burton in front of her. Alicia was wearing a blue silk mini-dress and a glittering golden badge. Rose squinted at it, and finally made out the letters HG. Alicia, noticing Rose looking at it said, “Nice, isn’t it?”. Rose nodded . Then the two best friends hugged each other by way of a better greeting. They finally let go, grinning radiantly at one another. Rose and Alicia looked to the side and saw Professor Flitwick watching them. Rose mentally decided to leave, and Alicia, seeing sense followed.
“How was your holiday?” asked Alicia happily.
“Oh it was allright. Yours?” Rose replied.
“It was great. I met this guy, Eric. He is so cute, he’s got lovely blonde hair and green eyes, ohhh . . . . and he’s such a good kisser too.”
“Sounds nice, anyway, how come you’ve suddenly got Head Girl?” asked Rose , looking confused.
“Ah, well, I thought you’d want to know that. Well, you know Sarah Mills, right, the old Head Girl? Turns out the girl was using her position wrongly, so McGonagall thought it was safer to give it to me”, explained Alicia.
“Well done Ali! I’m really pleased for you!” gushed Rose.
Rose looked around smiling, and saw a sight that threw the smile right off her face. It was the startling vision of Jack sticking his tongue down a 5th year Hufflepuff’s (Gemma Avery) throat. She knew he’d picked up someone else over the holidays! It’s just so stupid of him! Rose stopped in her tracks to stare. She pointed them out furiously to Alicia. Jack then caught sight of his girlfriend and hastily pulled away
“I didn’t mean to. It was-”.
“Don’t you waste your breath. I can’t believe you!”
And just as Jack was about to start making more excuses Rose screeched, “I said don’t waste your bloody breath!”.
But I really want to be with you. We are-”, Jack started weakly.
“It’s over!” spat Rose, before stomping to her dormitory.
Rose hid herself under her blankets, and a while later she heard Alicia enter. “I’m sorry about what happened, and if you don’t want to talk about it, I understand”, she heard Alicia mumble. Rose felt very grateful that she had a friend as good as Alicia. She soon found herself drifting into an uneasy sleep.
Rose woke up next morning to find that she was still in her miniskirt. She scowled at it before sitting up, and seeing that Alicia had unpacked her trunk for her. Rose was very appreciative, she didn’t feel up to unpacking.
After waking Alicia, Rose got dressed quickly. She waited for Alicia, who took ten minutes longer than her. Then the two friends made their way down the marble staircase and into the magnificent great hall. Rose finally settled between Scorpius Malfoy and Alicia.
“Hi Scorpius!” Rose said merrily.
“Hey Rosie!” Scorpius replied. Alicia didn’t really like Scorpius so she said nothing. Scorpius was reading The Daily Prophet, while sometimes taking bites from a piece of jam-covered toast. Some of his blonde hair was falling attractively into his misty grey eyes.
Scorpius pushed the hair off his face. Rose hastily looked away. Scorpius would probably feel weird if he noticed Rose staring at him. Rose scoffed two slices of toast very speedily, and before long she was ready to go to her first lesson. Rose whipped her timetable out and soon discovered that her first lesson would be charms (her favourite lesson). She looked up to see Scorpius checking his timetable too, and Alicia rummaging in her bag for hers.
“What’ve you got first lesson?” enquired Scorpius.
“Charms”, answered Rose, who was now subconsciously fidgeting with her bag.
“Same as me!” grinned Scorpius.
“Herbology, so I suppose I’ll catch up with you later”, Alicia said slightly miserably. Rose and Scorpius then set off together for charms.
