"Hermione, it's kind of obvious. I mean, Malfoy's Malfoy and Ron's Ron. Malfoy has made fun of you for as long as you've been at Hogwarts. Ron hasn't made fun of-"
"Yes he did! First year!"
"Yeah, and then he saved your life to make up for it. When has Malfoy ever done that?"
"Never, of course. Ginny, it's not like I'm in love with him. He doesn't deserve that. But I only love Ron like a brother. And I know, now, that he wants more than that. Do you know how awkward that would make everything? If he ever forgives me that is."
"Wait, you only just figured out Ron liked you like that? Don't you remember the Yule Ball? He was furious at his 'hero' for asking you to the ball."
"I thought he was just being overprotective Ron, as usual."
"Well, in any case, Hermione, you've got to talk to Ron. And by the way, were you a little bit crazy when you talked to Ron?"
"You told me that you said that you might want to kiss Malfoy again."
"Oh. Yeah, I was... I guess. Crazy, that is."
"Alright, good," Ginny said, nodding in satisfaction and not picking up on the way Hermione avoided Ginny's eyes as she answered that question.
"Alright, well, I guess I'm going to go up to my room and work on my homework. Talk to you later?"
"Talk to Ron later, Hermione!"
"I will!" Hermione replied as she walked away from Ginny.
Hermione slipped through the opening to her common room to find Draco and his friend Blaise sitting on the couch, talking.
"You kissed a mudblood!" Blaise shouted.
"No way, she kissed me! I couldn't get her off of me! Guess I'm just so good-looking that no girls can resist me." Draco was lying again to make himself sound good.
"Oh, is that right, Malfoy?" Hermione said, coming into the room. "Because the way I remember it, you kissed me."
"Not the first time!"
"You kissed more than once?!" Blaise exclaimed.
"Yeah, like I said, I can't keep her off of me!" Draco said.
"Oh, please, Malfoy," Hermione said.
"The first two times, you kissed me, Hermione!"
Hermione and Blaise fell still at his words.
He called me Hermione, she thought.
In any other place or time, this would not have been a big deal at all. First names are first names. But, here and at this moment, things were different. It was the first time in seven years that Draco had called Hermione by her name. The first time ever.
"I, uh, meant Granger!" Draco said, trying to recover, but she was looking at him with wide eyes and a slight smile on her face.
Shaking his head, Blaise said quietly and almost menacingly that it was almost curfew and he had to go. Draco nodded in response.
"I really didn't mean to say Hermione, Hermio- Granger," Draco said.
"Okay," she replied.
"Because that would be insane and wrong." He moved a few steps closer to her.
"And not something I would do." A few more steps.
"And against my morals." He was five inches away from her.
"But I like your name," he said in a whisper, and kissed her. She closed her eyes and kissed him back, murmuring 'I like your name too, Draco' into his lips.
Finally, they broke away from eachother, breathing heavily, Hermione with a guilty look on her face.
"This is not right," she said. "This is not something I can do."
"Me and you."
"This isn't a me and you thing, Hermione," he said, turning a slight shade of pink as he said her name.
"I know that... I just can't do... me and you kissing either."
"Are you kidding me? I've got Ron to think about."
"God, Hermione, we're not dating! Your little Weasley can have you!"
"Yeah, but I... I don't want him," she said quietly. "Not like that anyway."
"You know what? I could really care less about you and Weasley. It doesn't matter to me."
"I know, but... but you've got to stop kissing me if he's ever going to forgive
"And if I don't?" Draco said with a smirk.
"Then I... I...-" And she was cut off by his lips on hers.
"Because," he said, pulling away. "I don't think I'm going to."
The way things happen with Hermione and Draco is impulsive. There's no other way to describe it or explain it. When they were together, a lot of things didn't make sense and they did what felt right, even if it left them both feeling wrong afterwards.
"I talked to Hermione, Ron," Ginny said to her brother in the Gryffindor common room.
"Yeah? What'd she say?" Ron asked eagerly.
"Well, she said that she really wants you to forgive her and that she was suffering from... from temporary insanity when she said that she might want to kiss Malfoy again," Ginny said.
"Did she say anything about me?"
"Yes, I've already told you: she wants you to forgive her."
Ron put his face in his hands and said in a muffled voice, "I mean anything about me and her together."
"Oh, well, um... no," Ginny lied.
Ron gave a disappointed groan and Ginny told him that he should go talk to her.
"No. I didn't do anything wrong."
"Neither did she, really."
"She kissed Malfoy!"
"It was temporary insanity! Talk to her!"
Ron was silent for a moment, considering his options, and finally decided that he would go talk to her.
"Where is she?" he asked.
"Head's common room."
As he walked, Ron contemplated what he would say to Hermione when he saw her, basically whether to apologize or yell.
When he entered the common room, he chose to yell. But not because of their previous fight.
Author's Note: Now I realize that it's probably kind of obvious why Ron chose to yell, but maybe not, and I also realize that this is short. I don't write these chapters in advance, so maybe that's why I don't write as much. or maybe i'm just lazy. haha, just kidding, but please leave a review and let me know what you think, because reviews = love. haha, maybe not, but i do love reviews and they are quite helpful. thanks!
I'm not sure if I should make Chapter 7 begin where this chapter left off or after Ron has left, where we'd read about Draco and Hermione having a conversation. I'd like my reader's opinions, so let me know what you think!
