Are you saying Voldy wasn't Tom Riddle, or we should morn for the man Voldy once was? Very good, by the way.

I never thought about Voldemort like that. In a way Riddle did die at the hands of Voldemort. Cool. 10/10

Review #4, by Kinda_Mayvelle Eulogies For The Dead

7th November 2007:
What can I say that hasn't already been stated? I, too, thought the eulogy would be for Harry when I first sited the title, but as I read on I realized there was far more to this than what had met my eye.

I am so very glad I got the chance to read this. I agree with you; too many, far too many, have forgotten that Tom Riddle did exist, that he too was once a normal boy, who perhaps suffered a very similar childhood to Harry; that perhaps, had they not been set on separate paths, had made few different choices, one could very well have ended the same as the other. That, I believe, it what makes Harry's recognition of Tom's loss so poignant here. Perhaps he may be seeing something of himself in who Voldemort had once been. I don't pretend to understand his psyche, but nonetheless his feelings on the topic ring through clearly in this piece.

But what gets me the most is what you said in response to another review: the amendment Dumbledore made was to replace Harry's name with that of Voldemort's. Maybe he did it so that Harry would continue to be seen in a positive light by the wizarding world; or maybe he couldn't stand seeing it written out so blatantly. For Harry, though, I feel it was both an admission of guilt and an acceptance of a cold, cruel fact that will never, ever go away. He had murdered, and in retrospect, that set very little difference between himself and the man he murdered, who had murdered Harry's own parents, leading him to a similar childhood to that of Riddle's.

To reiterate: terribly poignant, and I just wanted to type out my thoughts on the matter. Although it did not make me cry, it tugged at my heartstrings in a very deep part of my soul; because I am glad, euphoric, even, that I am not the only one who remembers Riddle, not as the one who grew to become the most feared Dark Lord in a century, but instead as the young Muggle-raised boy who entered the wizarding world, the same as Harry, in hopes of a better future.

Thank you for writing this.

I like to think that Tom Riddle the boy would be forgiven for becoming Voldemort the man. 10/10

Everything seems to come full circle doesn't it?

Harry is an extraordinary character, is he not? There are so many directions to take him, and this was simply perfect. This story was so very, Harry...and so very JKR.

Author's Response: I am not fond of Harry, so this was quite a different thing for me to write as normally my intolerance of him shows through the story. I am pleased to know you enjoyed this though, as it is nice to know I can keep him in character this way when it takes me. Thank you for reviewing.

wow....this was so sad, and so telling... i agree with what Harry wrote at the end; those lost to the war should include Tom as well...a young boy who was never given the chance to live...beautifully done

Author's Response: Thank you very much for your thoughtful words, I appreciate your taking the time to leave such a lovely review.

I think this is your best one-shot. The last paragraph was so touching because it is true. Voldemort and Tom Riddle were two different people, a murderer and a boy with no family to tell him the difference between right and wrong. Your writing style is amazing, it digs deep into the character and sees what it hiddden. Wonderful.

Author's Response: Thank you very much for all your lovely comments. I am honoured you think so much of my writing.

28th April 2006:
Thats good, i like the ending. didn't see it coming. though i feel harry's anguish could have been put across a little more. and also, if dumbledore amended it what did harry write?

kerry

Author's Response: I considered making it longer, but I felt that short and sweet worked for this fic. I agree though, there could have been more in it. The amendment Dumbledore made was changing Harry's name to Voldemort, as Harry blamed himself for the death of Tom. It would have read 'In memory of Tom Riddle, who died at the hands of Harry Potter.'

Beautifully crafted, the way the sentences flow unto one and other is simply breath taking. Stunnin piece of work with a simple yet haunting story line. Fantastic, well done.

Author's Response: Thank you. I didn't realise until I finished the piece how much it does sound like Harry in the beginning. I am very pleased you enjoyed it.

15th March 2006:
That was awsome, I totally loved it! Usually I don't go out and read other stories but that was terrific! who killed hermione? You never say...And Ron? Did he die? Live? i think that even if you added one more chap to this story then it would be way worth it.

Author's Response: Hermione was killed by a nameless Death Eater, and Ron isn't really central to the story, although I suppose I always imagined he lived. Thank you very much for the lovely review and encouragement...I may consider adding another chapter. =)
