I had to read one more chapter before going to sleep because I liked the first one so much. So far I like the pace of this. The conversations were interesting and nicely explained at what point this story takes place. It was also a nice introduction of Venn, his mother and Salazar. Their language was, I think, spot-on, and even though none of them were very likable, they were interesting. I wonder whether Hogwarts is already built? I'm guessing it is since Salazar knows Rowena, but I may be wrong.

This is like reading a historical novel, and I haven't read one in ages, so it's refreshing. Your descriptions are simple and great. In a story like this, it's so hard for the author to get lost in the words and in describing everything way too much and going over the top, but so far you've maintained a really good balance.

Another great chapter, I'll be sure back to read more. :)

I'm glad you felt like this chapter was interesting, paced appropriately, and useful for indirectly introducing the context of the story. Venn and his family aren't really meant to be likeable at this point, and I hope you'll develop more complicated feelings about them as you get to know them more. At least, that's my goal :) I won't talk much about Hogwarts right now because I think you'll figure that out if you read on.

It's so great that you're enjoying the story with the historical backdrop. It's also lovely to hear that you like my word choice and my balance between plot and imagery. I'm learning to perfect that balance, so please do give me any feedback you have if you read on.
