I love Draco/Astoria stories! Astoria can be made into such great characters, like here! A wave of comfort and warmth came from her as soon as she made an appearance. I like how this starts with Draco in a bar because I have this little obsession starting every story with Draco in it in a bar. He's either working there or getting sloshed. That's what I think he'd do for a little while after the war anyway. The descriptions in that part were nasty but pretty accurate, I reaaally felt sorry for him back there.

It was fitting that the man in the Leaky Cauldron threw him out. It was mean, but I can see where he's coming from. The fact that most Death Eaters were locked up but the Malfoys weren't is perhaps even worse than Malfoy being actually locked up. It's difficult to start proving to the world that Harry's choice was right. All this little head canon was perfectly captured in this story, yay! I find myself being pulled back to your writing over and over, and you always make Draco come alive! I have to read the new chapters of Marked, I just love me some Drastoria and this really intrigued me so I'm here.

Author's Response: Hi, there! What an awesome surprise to wake up to!

My version of Draco was very angry and disillusioned after the war. Nearly everything his father had taught him to believe in turned out to be wrong. Being a pureblood from a noble family didn't spare him a bit of Voldemort's wrath when his father failed to get the prophecy or his family allowed the trio to escape from Malfoy Manor. In the end, he was as glad to see Voldemort die as anyone else. Retreating into alcohol seemed like a perfectly natural response to that sort of overwhelming disappointment.

The Malfoys were definitely hated in the post-war world, even though Harry probably stuck up for them. To me, Draco's realization near the end of this chapter was the key part. When the survivors of the war looked at him, they didn't really see a person, just a reminder.

I'm really glad that you enjoyed this. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
