This is very well-written - the imagery is vivid, and not over-done. The emotions don't carry across as well as the imagery. As it's a one-shot, I would suggest you develop the backstory a bit more, eg. why they're in a war (and losing), what they're fighting for, where are Rose's parents & many relatives, etc.

I could barely love her without the problems regulations of our society posed I think you made a mistake here with 'problems regulations' - you probably forgot to delete one?

Otherwise, nicely done!
